The 12 Days of Holiday Movies, day 1

I’m kicking off my 12 days of my favorite holiday movies with a classic: Miracle on 34th street, the original 1947 version with child star Natalie Wood.

In this Christmas classic, an old man going by the name of Kris Kringle (Edmund Gwenn) fills in for an intoxicated Santa in Macy’s annual Thanksgiving Day parade. Kringle proves to be such a hit that he is soon appearing regularly at the chain’s main store in midtown Manhattan. When Kringle surprises customers and employees alike by claiming that he really is Santa Claus, it leads to a court case to determine his mental health and, more importantly, his authenticity.

#fridayfive 12.1.2023

So this might be a little early, but since it’s December 1st, I figured, why not?

Today’s Friday Five are my 5 favorite holiday movies.

#5 Charlie Brown Christmas. I’m old enough to remember seeing this the very first time it was ever televised! Lovelovelove!

# 4 The Holiday. The only Jack Black movie I ever saw where I actually liked him!!!

#3 Love, Actually. One of my top 10 movies of all time no matter that it’s Christmas. From the beginning of the opening credits to the final ones, this movie is perfection.

#2 The Family Stone. I love Diane Keaton and she is at her absolute best in this movie about death, dying, and the power of family bonds.

#1 It’s a Wonderful Life. There’s a little George Banks in all of us!!! Again, this Frank Capra movie is perfection from the first reel to the end credits!

Stick around in December – I’m going to do 12 blogs about my favorite 12 movies of the holiday season.

My top 10 Holiday Movies

Christmas is around the corner and I am a huge holiday movie fan. Not the Hallmark channel movies, but the kind you see first in a movie theater with a tub of heart attack-inducing popcorn, a soda big enough to cause kidney failure, and enough candy to put you in a hyperglycemic crisis.

I typically watch the same holiday movies every year when they roll around on television, this year, no different.

In no real order, these are my all-time favorite Christmas/Holiday movies.

LOVE, ACTUALLY

DIE HARD ( do not argue with me about this. IMHO this is a holiday movie)

How the Grinch stole Christmas

The Holiday

A Christmas Story

Miracle on 34th Street

The Bishop’s Wife

Prancer

The Family Stone

Christmas in Connecticut

Are any of these your favorites, too?
