About Peggy Jaeger

I've been many things in my life, but the most consistent is WRITER.

Release day for IT’S A TRUST THING #indieromance #selfpublished

So this was a day I never thought I’d see come! Me, as an indie author!

When Limitless dropped my series from their roster after just one book was published, they gave me the option to find another publisher to complete the series or to self pub it. I went the indie route for a variety of reasons.

Needless to say, I am so thrilled to introduce you to Penelope “Nell” Newbery and Charlie Churchill.

IT’S A TRUST THING ( DotComGirls Series, book 2)

Nell Newbery has trust issues. It’s hard to trust when you’re the daughter of a fallen financial scion who bilked people out of billions. Nell’s done everything in her power to keep away from men who see her as their ticket to fortune and fame. All she wants to do is run her ultra-successful business, HELPFUL HUNKS, in peace.

But it wouldn’t hurt to find a guy who doesn’t know a thing about her father’s felonious past; one she can give her heart to and trust it won’t come back to her battered, bruised, and broken.

Is Charlie Churchill that guy? On the surface he seems perfect, all polished manners and quiet mirth. Nell’s convinced he knows nothing about her, other than she likes superhero movies and views junk food as a food group.

Can she trust him to be what he appears to be? Or is he just pretending?

For Nell, trust is everything in life…and in love.

Available today, exclusively on Kindle and through Kindle Unlimited. Get your copy here: AMAZON

*** Come back this Sunday when I give you a little Sunday Snippet from the book!

Until next time ~ Peg

Working two jobs and caring for her mother leaves the twenty-seven-year-old with no time for fun or relationships. When a law firm representing her paternal grandparents sends her several letters, Hope ignores them. She despises the family who disowned her father and wants nothing to do with them.

Lawyer Tyler Coleman’s job is simply to obtain Hope’s signature on a legal document. Getting it is harder than planned, though, when an unexpected attraction blossoms between them. If Ty is honest with Hope about why he’s in Willow Springs, he’ll fulfill his assignment but may risk hurting her.

#GoddessFishBlogtour TRAIL OF SECRETS by Nora Leduc

Today is the last day of my NHRWA sistah’s GODDESS FISH BLOG TOUR and I’m so thrilled she’s spending it with me!!!

Nora LeDuc has a brand new mystery out titled TRAIL OF SECRETS and it’s a goodie. The reviews coming in have all agreed this may be Nora’s best work yet – and I’m thrilled for her!

BLURB:

Who killed the vivacious, Emily McGuire and laid out her body at the water tower? Orderly, rule-follower Mia McGuire is the least likely person to answer this question. Mia’s life has taken a downward spiral with her sister Emily’s murder, the breakup with her boyfriend, and losing her editing position. But when the homicide investigation crawls, Mia can’t stand by doing nothing. She hires the problematic Lucas Davis to help her find the truth.

After suffering trauma from a shooting on the job,  Lucas Davis resigns from the local force. Once known as a daredevil in his small Florida town, he has become an embarrassment to his dad, the police chief. When Mia offers him investigative work, he quickly accepts the job to prove he still possesses the skills and guts to solve the case. Together, these two unlikely sleuths form an intimate bond and are determined to beat the odds. They set out to bring a terrifying killer to justice before he targets them next.

Excerpt:

She shaded her eyes and stepped out of the glare. Her gaze fell on a form lying by the wire mesh fence. Was that a person? Was someone hurt or drunk? Mia shuddered inwardly but crept forward and stopped a few feet from the shape.

Zsa Zsa scampered to her side.

Dread worked its way up Mia’s throat. It was a motionless woman on her back, parallel to the base of Gram’s monstrosity. She was dressed in a dark dress. Black sandals revealed blue toenails. One arm lay outstretched with her fingers curled upward as though beckoning Mia to her. The polish decorating her manicured nails matched the shade on her toes. Long raven-colored hair covered her face from her forehead to her chin.

Zsa Zsa whimpered by Mia’s feet. She scooped up her pet and swallowed the lump of fear increasing with each step closer to the person. Had the woman fallen? Passed out?

The sweet fragrance of a perfume drifted toward her and stirred a forgotten memory. The familiar soft voice asked, “What else would a southern Florida girl wear but orange blossoms? It’s the cool new scent.”

Emily? A sliver of dread formed near Mia’s heart. No, it couldn’t be. Her sister’s hair was pink. But she often changed the color. Mia didn’t have to wait for the truth. The breeze lifted the strands upward from the woman’s face.

Mia’s legs wobbled. A rash of red points blotted her skin, and scratches crisscrossed her neck. Her lips were frozen in an “oh” of shock. Open, bloodshot eyes stared at Mia. Emily!

Tears blurred her vision. She clutched at a last hope. “Emily, is that you?”

The wind picked up and spun a foul sickly sweet odor around her, drowning the other scent. Mia coughed and stumbled backward. Only one certainty floated through her confusion. Her younger sister was dead.

#Authorinterview with Karen Hulene Bartell

It’s always a great day when I can introduce you to another WIld Rose Press sistah! Today, it’s my pleasure for you to meet KAREN HULENE BARTELL.

Karen has a new book out from WRP and she’s here to tell us a little about it, and to tell us a lot about herself!!! I love an author interview, don’t you?

Karen…take it away!

Karen,  The Writer

Thank you so much for hosting me! ( Peggy here: Totally my pleasure!!)

  1. What drives you to write?

This is a very thought-provoking question, and I considered it long and hard. I loved reading—especially as a child—so writing may be a natural progression, but my guess is *if* it’s in you—*if* you’re born with a penchant for writing—it’s gotta’ come out.

  1. What genre(s) of Romance do your write, and why?

I write mainstream fantasy romance because I admit to a captivation with ghosts, and I write historical western romance because both history and the American frontier appealed to me early on.

  1. What genre(s) of Romance do you read, and why?

I’ve read most genres of romance, depending at what point I’m at in life. For instance, in junior high, I read Gone with the Wind and fell in love with antebellum era romances. In high school, I read Angelique, which started a fascination with 17th Century France and the court of “Le Roi Soleil,” Louis XIV.

  1. What’s your writing schedule? Do you write everyday?

I write early in the morning, while my mind is still creative, usually starting about 4:30 or 5:00. I write every day, not only because it’s a good habit, but because it keeps the storyline fresh. Many mornings I wake up with a plot idea, which leads me to believe “the genies of my mind” really do work while I sleep.

  1. Give us a glimpse of the surroundings where you write. Separate room? In the kitchen? At the dining room table?

I write in my home office, at a French Provincial desk I finished myself. The keyboard slides into a drawer, and the computer screen overhangs it. Two orange-striped cats are usually stretched out, covering half the desktop. An open travel brochure is within sight, calling to me, and the dog’s napping at my feet.

  1. Are you the kind of writer who needs total quiet to compose, or are you able to filter out the typical sounds of the day and use your tunnel-vision?

Though I can compose in the middle of mayhem, especially if I’m on a roll, I prefer a quiet place without interruption.

  1. Do you listen to music while you write, and if so, what kind? If not, why not?

Definitely, I don’t listen to music while I write. Most of the time, a melody is playing at the back of my mind, and if I hear external music, it’s jarring—like listening to two radio stations simultaneously.

  1. How did you come up with the plotline/idea for your current WIP?

My husband and I took a trip to the Keys several years ago…and voila…an idea was born along Highway 1.

  1. Which comes first for you – character or plot? And why?

Plot always comes first. Though I may think of characters before I have any plot in mind, I “save” those characters for the right plot.

  1. What 3 words describe you, the writer?

Eccentric loner, who’s extroverted 😉

Karen , The Person

  1. Tell us one unusual thing about yourself—not related to writing!

I’m an animal advocate, and I rescue mustangs.

2, Who was your first love and what age were you?

I was twelve and madly in love with the first flautist in the school orchestra.

3, If you could relive one day, which one would it be? Think GROUNDHOG DAY, the movie for this one – you’ll have to live it over and over and….

Probably the day I met my husband. Through an extenuating series of events, I met him hours after he broke off his engagement.

4. Do you like a guy in boxers, briefs, or commando?

None of the above—I prefer a guy in jeans.

5.If you had to give up one necessary-can’t-live-without-it beauty item, what would it be?

Shampoo??? I’m a down-to-early, au natural type 😉

6. What three words describe you, the person?

Adventurous traveler and student (of life)

7. If you could sing a song with Jimmy Fallon, what would it be?

I Gotta’ Be Me

8.If you could hang out with any literary character from any book penned at any time line, who would it by, why, and what would you do together?

Scarlett O’Hara

Bonus round

I love the Actor’s Studio show on Bravo, so this is my version of it:

  1. Favorite sound – twilight in the country
  2. Least favorite sound – screeching children
  3. Best song every written – O Holy Night
  4. Worst song ever written – any rap song
  5. Favorite actor and actress – Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock
  6. Who would you want to be for 1 day and why? ( It can be anyone living or dead) Genghis Khan
  7. What turns you on? Down-to-earth guy, romantic dinner, dancing, moonlit night, and cava
  8. What turns you off? Arrogant alpha males—swaggering muscles without brains
  9. Give me the worst 5 words ever heard on a first date ( here’s mine: “Is that your real hair?”) What took you so long?
  10. What’s your version of a perfect day? Signing a book contract

The Keys: Voice of the Turtle by Karen Hulene Bartell

Blurb:

Hours after arriving in the Florida Keys to help her cousin Keya create a turtle preserve, Ruth discovers a washed-up body and not one, but two apparitions—Maita, the angry victim’s spirit, and Bart, a swashbuckling ghost. Ruth’s curious ability to connect with the ghosts may help them move on, but how?

Keya is in a probate battle over her turtle-nesting beach. Land-hungry relatives want it bulldozed and developed. Like Ruth, she has a special gift—she can talk to animals. Between Ruth’s help and Keya’s unique ability, they work to save the property, but is it too late?

Can Keya save her beloved turtles? Can Ruth find Maita’s murderer or help Bart solve his 400-year-old mystery? There’s more than meets the eye to Keya’s land. Add in a dashing sailor who believes in her, and Keya may have more than she bargained for…

Excerpt:

Conveying this land to the turtles would be my way of leaving the world a better place.” She turned toward Ruth. “Does that make sense?”

Ruth nodded and gazed at Keya as if for the first time. Her cousin’s intentions were clear. “But legally, how can you will the property to the turtles?”

“Easy. I leave it to the Turtle Refuge.” Keya laughed inwardly as they meandered along the beach. “And this is where you come in. When you’re writing the brochure, add a few paragraphs about planned giving and charitable bequests…” Her words broke off as Keya stared as if in a trance.

Ruth looked at her. “What’s wrong?”

Her hand shaking, Keya pointed to a shady patch of beach half hidden by sand dunes. A lifeless hand lay tangled in seaweed, its fingernails broken and bloodied.

Racing behind the sandbanks to help, Ruth skidded to a halt, her heels digging into the sand. A woman’s bloated body lay staring at the sun, her eyes opaque and unseeing. “Do you recognize her?”

“No.” Keya shook her head as the cat gingerly approached, sniffing and meowing. But Earnestine said she smells familiar.”

“Knock, knock,” called a man’s voice.

Ruth flinched at the sound. “Who’s there?”

I am currently editing the final galley copy of the above book for Wild Rose Press. It’s the first in a three book series called A PRIDE OF BROTHERS. For those of you who read my WILL COOK FOR LOVE SERIES, this is the story of Abigail Laine and Rick Bannerman. These two are both alphas and boy do they annoy each other. And by annoy I mean – YOWZA!

As soon as I have a release date and a cover, you’ll see it. Promise!

Until then, only 6 more sleeps until IT’S A TRUST THING releases exclusively in Kindle and KU. Have you reordered your copy yet???

#LongandShortReviews #Wednesdaydayblogchallenge 10.23.19

I’ve been a little absent from this blog hop lately because I’ve been uber busy. But this topic was one I found I could easily write: Books I’ve read on someone else’s recommendation.

Before Netgalley, word of mouth was the best way I found out about new authors and new books. Rosie O’Donnell recommended HARRY POTTER on her television show and I was so enamored at the idea of the book I bought it and my then 8 year old daughter and I read it together.

A girlfriend recommended I read Marianne Rice’s STRAWBERRY KISSES and I’ve been a fan every since!

While at a romance writing conference, I overheard two gals talking about this author they’d discovered named JILL SHALVIS who wrote a book called the LUCKY HARBOR series. I’ve been a faithful fan since the first day I read one of those books.

And before I knew that JD ROBB was the doppelganger of Nora Roberts, I read NAKED IN DEATH based on a recommendation of the woman who owned my local book store. I loved the voice of JD Robb at once and when I found out she was really Nora, well, that just solidified her books for me.

Now, with Netgalley, I’m able to be the one who recommends books to my own friends….which is fantastic!! My only hope in life is that someone recommends MY BOOKS to some of THEIR friends!

Hee hee.

Let’s see what some of the other book recommendations on this blog are: L&SR

Until next time ~ Peg

And don’t forget, my new book IT’S A TRUST THING releases on 11/1/19, exclusive to Kindle and KU and is up for pre-order right now. And just so we’re clear on this, I’m RECOMMENDING THIS BOOK TO YOU!!!!

(Heehee)
