#tuesdayteaser 4.2.24

This week, we are back to my upcoming Heaven’s Matchmaker Book 2, LOVE MATCH, releasing on 5.21.24. Here’s the meet cute!

After moving from the outer office, Layla glanced down at her phone to note the time and while walking through the opened elevator doors barreled straight into someone alighting from it.

The someone was built like an army tank and Layla, literally, bounced off it like a coin dropped on a military-made bed.

“Oh.”

Just as she was about to fall backward and – mortifyingly – land on her ass, hands wound around her upper arms and squeezed to keep her upright.

Incredibly strong hands.

Layla’s gaze shot to those hands, which were tanned and sun-kissed, then traveled up the arms encased in a thick brown leather jacket to land on a jaw covered with a half week’s worth of ash-colored whiskers. A tiny vertical crevasse under the bottom lip, sitting squarely in the center of the chin peeked its way through the stubble.

Layla’s mouth watered. A chin dimple was her sexual kryptonite.

A long pair of legs ensconced in faded jeans hugged thick thighs and tapered down to rough-and-ready work boots covered with old paint splotches. His head was bare despite the cold of the day and the shock of unruly and errant wavy brown hair covering it made her fingers twitch for a touch. While she’d always liked a man with a chin dimple, the rough and ready workman look didn’t ordinarily strike her fancy. All the men she’d ever dated, including her now infamous ex, had been suit, tie, and pocket square guys who had monthly manicures, doused themselves in expensive cologne, and rarely – if ever – had unruly hair.

To say she had a type wouldn’t be wrong. To also say she finally realized that type was a bit of a douche would be equally true.

“Excuse me.” His voice was deep and tinged with a seductive rasp that Layla felt reverberate through her.

Ignoring the words, she concentrated instead on the lips they sailed through. Thick and full, their dusky rose hue reminded her of the color of tropical sunsets. Lifting her gaze up to the rest of his face she encountered a perfectly straight nose and a pair of Hershey’s Kiss-colored eyes shaped like almonds.

Layla had a weakness for almonds. And an absolute penchant for chocolate.

The unusual jealousy that bounded through her at the length and fullness of his eyelashes stunned her. She wanted to press her fingers against them, see if they were real, while at the same time rub her lips against that fabulous mouth to taste him.

She blinked a few times, then shook her head back and forth to rid it of the alien thoughts taking up residence in her brain.

“You okay?” he asked as he flexed his hands around the sleeves of her coat.

Not even close.

Intrigued? lol. 5.21.24.

#Tuesdaytease #Teasertuesday 3.19.24

So, I’ve got a release date of May 21, 2024 for book 2 in the HEAVEN’S MATCHMAKER series, LOVE MATCH( LAYLA & CODY).

Here’s a little scene between Layla and Cody’s Mom, Sally, a woman very unlike Layla’s cold and critical mom.

All the nerves she’d been able to quiet manifested again. She stood, knowing her legs should move her to the front door, but couldn’t.

The bell chimed again. With it, she heard Cody barreling down from the attic.

“I’ll get it,” he said, glancing into the room on his way to the door.

Finally remembering how to walk, Layla shot behind the pocket doors, intent on closeting herself in the room. Cowardly? Yes, she wasn’t going to deny it. But then a female voice echoed in the front hall.

“I was in soup-making mode this morning and made a batch of vegetable and tomato, so I figured I’d bring some for lunch for you both. As usual, I made a vat. Way more than just Daddy and I can get through,” the voice said, laughter ringing in the tone.

“You got grilled cheese sandwiches to go along with the soup?”

A beat passed. Then, “Cody Angus Fonda, when have you ever known me not to make sandwiches to go along with soup?”

Layla could hear the smile in his answer. “Never. Thank God.”

Despite wanting to hide, Layla peeked around the half-opened door. She’d imagined the woman would be her age, maybe even younger from the youthful vitality lilting through the voice. But it belonged to a woman in her mother’s generation.

Cody glanced over his shoulder and caught her staring at them.

“Not the delivery guys,” he said. “It’s my mom and she’s brought us lunch. Come meet her. I promise,” he slanted his mother a playful grin, “she won’t bite.”

She shoved a bag at him, then swatted him across the forearm.

“Is that any way to introduce me?” she said, shaking her head.

The smile gracing her face belied the annoyance in her question.

Before Layla could come forward, Cody’s mother crossed the expanse of the foyer to her, a hand extended in greeting. “I’m Sally, Layla. It’s so nice to meet you.”

Layla found her hand cocooned within both of Sally’s and pumped with vigor. “My mother is up at the Arms and is besties with your gran. Effie talks about you all the time and from pictures I’ve seen of her when she was a girl, you’re her spitting image. Both of you, beauties.”

Despite her nerves, Layla smiled.

“That’s sweet of you to say.”

“I went to school with your mom, too. How’s she doing?”

Layla had to bite back the comment she really wanted to make, instead, going for the polite, “She’s well, thank you.”

“Good. Good. Well, I made some soup and sandwiches and brought some along. Cody loves my soups, especially on a cold day like today. Are you hungry?” She wound her arm through Layla’s and began walking with her toward the kitchen. “I don’t even ask Cody that anymore because the man is a walking hunger pang.” She rolled her eyes at her son. “Come on. Let’s go find some bowls and utensils. So, my son tells me you and he are fixing up the house a bit. Good, I’m glad. This house is gorgeous. Effie always left it spotless, too. I remember coming here as a girl with my parents when your grandparents had their annual Christmas party. Everything was so festive and beautiful. Do you have any plans to decorate or entertain like she did?”

Layla let herself be guided toward the kitchen, Cody following behind them, the bag in his hand.

“I hadn’t given it much thought,” she admitted. “I want to get a few of the projects completed first.”

Sally led her to a chair, told her to sit, and then started rummaging through the cabinets for bowls. “That’s smart. You don’t want drop clothes and scaffolding, and other things about if you invite people into your home.”

Once she located the bowls she turned to her son and said, “Don’t just stand there, boy. Bring me the food.”

“Yes, ma’am.” He placed the bag on the island turned and winked at Layla.

It was all she could do to stay upright on the chair.

Sally’s not really pushy, just very involved in everyone’s business, LOL

So I have a release date for my next book in the HEAVEN’S MATCHMAKER series, LOVE MATCH: May 21.

In this scene, we get introduced to Cody’s Huskie. I think you’ll like her name…lol

“What are you doing here?” That all too familiar sensation of heat rose up Layla’s neck and jaw again.

Why, whenever she was in his presence, did she react so rudely? Layla was many things but ill-mannered wasn’t usually one of them.

Except with Cody Fonda.

When he tilted his head and gave her a one-sided grin, she bit down on her lips, then said, “I’m sorry. I thought you were the delivery van I’ve been expecting.” Flustered, she repeated, “Sorry.

“I told you yesterday after we decided what you wanted done that I was gonna start today.”

“You did, but I thought you meant you were sending in a crew to deal with everything.”

For a few beats he just stood there, staring at her. That intense perusal had her insides swirling.

“Can we come in?” he finally asked. “It’s cold standing here.”

“Oh, jeez, sorry. Yes, yes, of course.” She threw the door open and stood back.

“Thanks.”

“And who is this lovely lady?” She offered her hand for the dog to sniff and was rewarded with a lick across her palm.

“This is Jane. She usually comes to sites with me because I don’t like to leave her home alone all day. Is that gonna be a problem?”

“Not at all. I love do—wait a minute.” She stood upright and shook her head side to side twice. “Your dog’s name is…Jane?”

He nodded.

“As in…Jane Fonda?”

He shot his index finger at her and grinned. “Got it in one.”

Her lips lifted. “Oh, my God. That’s just…”

He put the box down, tugged off his skull cap, and ruffled his hair into place. “I know, but it really is the perfect name for her. Now, to answer you,” he said as he zipped his jacket down, “My crew is currently out doing two other projects that require several people each. Yours are relatively easy and I can do them without help.”

I

ll have preorder links and GoodReads link up next. For now…happy reading. ~ Peg

#Tuesdaytease What’s ahead for 2024?

So today’s Tuesday tease is a little different. I’m not going to intrigue you with a little snippet of an upcoming book. Rather, I’m going to try and whet your reading appetite by showing you my covers for my upcoming additions to the HEAVEN’S MATCHMAKER series that will be released in 2024.

Intrigued yet?
LOL

You’ve already been introduced to MIX AND MATCH, Jasmine and Donovan’s story.

Next in line is Layla and Cody’s love story, LOVE MATCH

Then, book 3, PERFECT MATCH, featuring Olivia and Hunter.

Book 4 features Charity and Kolby from Dearly Beloved fame, YOU’RE MY MATCH

When you see them all lined up they look so pretty!

And if you haven’t clued into it yet, the covers are all seasonal. Book 1 was released in the fall, book 2 will be a Valentine’s Day release ( here’s hoping!) book 3 summer 2023, and hopefully book 4 late fall 2023.

I have my work cut out for me. The books are plotted ( you know me!!!). I just need to put my butt in the chair and type them all up.

Le sigh….if only it were that easy, lol!

#fridayfive 10.13.2023

Today’s Friday five is about my heroine, Julia Maryland in my upcoming release, Don’t Mess with the Mistletoe.

It’s the holiday season in the tiny town of Dickens and pilot Michael Charles is home for his annual visit. His wanderlust has him itching to get back up in the skies as soon as possible, especially since he’s got a full schedule of rich and famous clients waiting to be transported to warm, exotic locales for the winter.

When his heavily pregnant sisters present him with a plan to give their workaholic mother some time off from managing the family diner, he balks. But one look at how tired the woman who took him into her home and heart is, and Michael agrees to run Dorrit’s Diner for a month so Amy Charles can get some well-deserved rest.

He’ll be back in the skies by the New Year.

The diner staff functions like a well-oiled machine, most of them long-term employees. The exception is new waitress Julia Maryland. The beautiful blonde has a past filled with heartache, a charming six-year-old daughter, and a smile Michael could spend the day getting lost in. But starting a relationship with her wouldn’t be wise because his visit is temporary and Julia seems like a permanent kind of girl.

When a family emergency requires him to rethink and reassess his life, Michael wonders if it’s time he becomes a permanent kind of man.

28 days until DON’T MESS WITH THE MISTLETOE releases!

28 days is, in actuality, one month ( 4 weeks) so even though today is October 4th and the book releases on 11.1, it’s still 1 month away ( technically!)

So…..

YAY! Just a few more weeks until you can all meet Michael Charles and Julia Maryland.

Opposites attract, workplace romance, adoption, and past child abuse are all the themes in this romance – and yet, there’s tons of humor, too! It wouldn’t be a Dickens Holiday Romance if it wasn’t funny.

Michael Charles, the youngest of Amy and Andy Charles’ adopted kids is home for a quick Thanksgiving visit. Or so he thinks. Through the machinations of his “demon sisters,” Michael is sticking around until the New Year to give their mom a break from running Dorrit’s Diner, then he’ll be back in the skies.

I hate repeating myself, but…or so he thinks.

Okay, this one is making me all happy on the inside! A PRIDE OF BROTHERS: DYLAN is set to release into the book-reading world on September 18, 2023! I am sososo thrilled. Here’s the very first look at the cover:

And here’s the book jacket blurb:

Harper has a reputation as a coding savant and an introvert. Dylan’s interest is flattering, but after she’s implicated in the theft of the company’s protected software, she doubts everything he’s told her.

When a series of potentially deadly accidents occur involving Harper, Dylan wonders if she is being set up to take the fall. One thing is certain: the more time they spend together, the more Dylan realizes he’s the one who’s falling—for Harper.

And now here’s the FIRST LINE:

Chapter 1

Wednesday, noon

Dylan Keane knew if he hadn’t been forced to walk the straight and narrow by his parents, he would have had a lucrative career as a con man instead of a private investigator.

No preorder links yet because we’re so far out for publication, but I am sosos excited to have a set date for release.

If you haven’t read the two previous PRIDE OF BROTHERS books, Rick and Aiden, now it your chance to get caught up!

A PRIDE OF BROTHERS: RICK

Elite bodyguard and P.I. Rick Bannerman’s job is to protect. He doesn’t get emotional with his clients, but when a woman from his past is threatened, his next job becomes personal.

Family lawyer Abigail Laine is the target of a client’s vengeful husband, but refuses Rick’s offer of protection. He walked away from her four years ago, and she swore to forget him.

Now her reluctance to accept his help could cost Abby her life.

A PRIDE OF BROTHERS: AIDEN

Lexi Buckley wants answers about her younger sister’s death. The police have labeled it a suicide, but Lexi doesn’t believe it. Stymied in her investigation, she doesn’t know where to turn next. After a chance encounter with a private investigator, she thinks her prayers have been answered.

Aiden Keane has never been an answer to a prayer before, but he agrees to help Lexi. A quirky combo of brains and beauty, the pixie blonde makes him feel things no professional ever should for a client.

When their investigation puts Lexi’s life in jeopardy, her safety becomes his number one priority. The hard part is not falling for her.

Look how great these covers look all together!!!

and here’s one more little teaser….there’s 1 more book-brother left to write. Only 2 people on the planet know the name of this brother, me and a very special lady. Hee hee. More on that to come….

An interview with #writer STELLA GRAE

I’ve got a brand new-to-me- author and WRP sistah here today for a visit and an interview. I’m so excited to introduce you all to STELLA GRAE. Let’s get to know her a bit and then take a glance at her new WILD ROSE PRESS book JUST CALL ME CONFIDENCE releasing March 22, 2023

Stella…take it away.

Stella –The Writer

1. What drives you to write?

For me, writing has always been cathartic. I write when something bothers me, upsets me, or when I’m trying to process something. So, writing has become almost this extension of my personality. And, I just love creating an alternate reality where I might want to live…for a just little while at least.

2. What genre(s) of Romance do your write, and why?

I write erotic romance, which I had never thought I’d do. When I first began writing, romance writing was at the bottom of the list. Honestly, I was very frustrated with my lack of success in other areas, so I thought, “Why not?” and the words, plot, characters—everything flowed really well. I’m very fascinated with sexuality. I will often look at people and wonder how they are sexually. I know…it’s odd, but for me, erotica is as much about the psychology as the sex.

3. What genre(s) of Romance do you read, and why?

I prefer romance with a dark twist. I have read and enjoyed Pepper Winters writing. I love that the characters are allowed to evolve and triumph out of dark, gritty situations.

4. What’s your writing schedule? Do you write every day?

I do not write every day unless I have a work-in-progress that is pulling me to it. Some weeks that means I may write every day, but usually I devote part of a weekend to writing. Since I teach, I do a lot of writing during the summer and on breaks.

5. Give us a glimpse of the surroundings where you write. Separate room? In the kitchen? At the dining room table?

I have devoted a corner nook in my bedroom as my writing space. The gorgeous old table that my family used when I was a kid is my desk. It’s a little cluttered, but I am essentially an organized person. I love the table because I can see the indentations in the wood that spark a lot of memories. It’s a very comfortable place for me to be mentally as well as physically.

6. Are you the kind of writer who needs total quiet to compose, or are you able to filter out the typical sounds of the day and use your tunnelvision?

I really like quiet. I am bothered by background noise, so I do writing in the early morning or late at night.

7. Do you listen to music while you write, and if so, what kind? If not, why not?

No! I honestly don’t know how people do that. I might be able to do some classical music, but usually silence is best. Now, I can be inspired to write by a song, but that’s it.

8. How did you come up with the plotline/idea for your current WIP?

So, this will be an interesting answer because most authors pull some part of themselves into a work, even if it’s just their own personal fantasies. Just Call Me Confidence and its sequel, which I’m working on right now, were both born of a failed relationship. I was lonely in the relationship, but didn’t want to do anything stupid, so I created characters and situations that were based a little on reality, but twisted them to create the kind of relationship that I actually had wished I had. The relationship fizzled, but the plot sizzled, as they say.

9. Which comes first for you – character or plot? And why?

I’d have to say that the plot comes first, but the character and his or her conflicts will come a close second. I often think about real people and their stories—why something is the way it is, or how it could be—and can flesh out a story pretty quickly. The characters have to be spot on though for a story to click, and that’s why, for me, character development really drives that plot.

10. What 3 words describe you, the writer?

Intelligent, determined, and passionate.

Stella –The Gal

  1. Tell us one unusual thing about yourself – not related to writing! I love to work with my hands, especially on home improvement projects. I’ve tiled a bathroom, put in flooring, installed crown molding. I even have my own saws, levels, and such.
  2. Who was your first love and what age were you? I was young—maybe first grade—and I had a crush on this boy named Greg. I just thought he was wonderful, but he only had eyes for someone else. I can’t remember why I liked him, but I do remember that by middle school I had a mild obsession with Rick Springfield.
  3. If you could relive one day, which one would it be? Think GROUNDHOG DAY, the movie for this one – you’ll have to live it over and over and…. I think I would relive the day that I was with my grandmother, brother, and other family on a train trip to the West. We were going across the Continental Divide and it was just magic—the scenery, the people I loved—I just could live that feeling of majesty over and over. It was very humbling to know, in a moment, how blessed you are.
  4. What’s one thing you love about your significant other? I absolutely love that my significant other gets me and my writing. He isn’t jealous of the time I put in to it and really lifts me up. He’s so encouraging!
  5. If you had to give up one necessary-can’t-live-without-it item, what would it be? Pencil and paper—I’d go crazy if I couldn’t write things down.
  6. What three words describe you, the person? Intelligent, kind, and independent. (Peggy here – loves those descriptions!)
  7. If you could sing a song with Jimmy Fallon, what would it be?  “Tide Is High” by Blondie. It’s a fun, feel-good song that Jimmy would like and I love Debbie Harry’s voice—she sings in my range, so I’d sound somewhat decent.
  8. If you could hang out with any literary character from any book penned at any time line, who would it by, why, and what would you do together? There are so many great characters, but I think I’d hang out with Edward from The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. While it’s geared toward kids, that story has one wise bunny! He makes the best of any situation and keeps himself open for love, even if it’s fleeting. I like to hike and cook, so I imagine that Edward and I would do both because he likes that independent, vagabond life. I could make some cowboy beans over a fire, build a little shanty, and we’d philosophize under the stars.

I love the Actor’s Studio show on Bravo, so this is my version of it:

  1. Favorite sound I love nature sounds—birds singing, leaves blowing in the wind, little animals scurrying. It’s so peaceful and humbling.
  2. Least favorite sound Loud talkers. I cannot stand loud talkers.
  3. Best song ever written Well, I’m going to pick something suggestive because I write erotica, right? So, a song that’s always in my line up is “Physical” by that late, great Olivia Newton John. I fell in love with the Xanadu soundtrack and “Physical” is just a perfect combination of seductive lyrics and music.
  4. Worst song ever written I’d say I’ve always disliked the Carpenters—“Rainy Day and Mondays.” Her voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me.
  5. Favorite actor and actress George Clooney is my favorite actor; he’s always very natural, and easy on the eyes. My favorite actress is Kate Winslet. I loved her in Revolutionary Road. She seems very genuine, and I love that she embraces her age—bravo!
  6. Who would you want to be for 1 day and why? ( It can be anyone living or dead) I think I’d like to be Queen Elizabeth. Can you imagine the secrets she took to her grave and the things she’s seen? I could take that information and write some great stories.  Plus, a castle, a carriage, corgis, and servants—yes, please!
  7. What turns you on? A great vocabulary and a kind heart.
  8. What turns you off? A person who is narrow minded and unkind or rude.
  9. Give me the worst 5 words ever heard on a first date ( here’s mine: “Is that your real hair?”) You have a stripper’s body.
  10. What’s your version of a perfect day? My perfect day begins with a snowy morning in a cabin, freshly brewed coffee, and a day completely dedicated to writing. I’d see some sun later for a quick hike, then a nice fire—and more writing!

And now, here’s a little about Stella’s book:

Jenna Craig is a 40-year-old freshly-minted “hot momma” looking for a little love in her post-divorce life. After a night out with her cougar tribe, she wonders whether she’s still got “it”—the double-takes from the college clowns at the bar quickly put her doubts to rest. Though she may be alone, she knows she’ll never be lonely.

Jenna’s newfound confidence is buoyed by some swim club eye candy: Travis the lifeguard. Hot trysts in the locker room leave her wondering if she might want something more. When her naughty, new boy toy introduces her to his friend, Collin, Jenna is engulfed with waves of emotion that she thought she might never feel again. With two younger men vying for her heart, will she choose the perfect guy for right now, or the man who could give her another shot at love?

The experienced Ms. Craig is certain of one thing: She better bring the confidence to pull off the choice of her desire.

“I’m glad we’re friends, and that you think nothing of racing to my house to help me with my man woes, and my panties. But you know what I appreciate most?”

“You appreciate my sarcastic, brutally honest, down-home wit?”

“No, the fact that you don’t judge me or what I do, or don’t do. You’ve never said you think I’m acting like a whore.”

Fielding hugs me and doesn’t let go. Patting me on my back she responds, “I’ll never stoop to calling you a whore because you’re simply acting like a woman with a man’s morals.”
