Okay, today’s topic – THE STRANGEST THING(S) I’VE EATEN – is going to be a very short piece for me because I am a food-shunner.

Let me ‘esplain.

I have MULTIPLE food allergies, the largest of which belong to the NIGHTSHADE family.

Just from this classification alone I can’t eat potatoes, tomatoes, onions, peppers or eggplants without getting violently sick. Just think of all the dishes one or a combo of those ingredients are in. Spaghetti sauce, any kind of Mexican food, most Asian foods. Yeah. It sucks…big time.

But I also have other weird food allergies, such as one to FUDGE – I can eat chocolate, but whatever the chemical combination is that make’s fudge fudge, if I eat a piece, I break out in vibrant hives that last for days.

And let’s not talk about strawberries.

I had one – once – and wound up being transported to the ER via ambulance in anaphylaxis. And I’m not joking…not even a little. Because of that allergy I shy away from any fruit with a “hair” covering like peaches. Blueberries, blackberries, raspberries,  passion fruit and kiwi all make me violently sick to my stomach so I stay away from them as well.

So….from all that you can surmise that I don’t eat food I’m not certain I’m allergic to if I can help it and that narrows my scope of trying new dishes and recipes.

The weirdest thing I’ve ever tried – and actually liked, though – is snails. Or escargot for those of you who like to Francophile the word.

The first time I had them I was 7 and they were smothered in a lovely garlic butter sauce. I’ve eaten them that way every since. Yummo.

I know….I’m really boring, aren’t I?
