“Excuse me, Mr. Craymore,” I said. “I believe I’m next on your daughter’s next dance card.”

Sterling Craymore’s gaze raked me from head to feet, an assessing glare in his eyes and one, if I’m being truthful, meant to assure me he could cut me off at the knees if he wanted to. If I’m ever lucky enough to be a father I’m going to use that withering glare on all my daughter’s boyfriends.

“It’s okay, Daddy,” she said, removing her arm from the crook of his elbow crook and simultaneously planting a kiss on his cheek.  She whispered something in his ear that had the suspicious look dissolving, to be replaced with one of pure paternal love.

I didn’t want to give her a moment to reconsider, so I stepped forward and extended my hand. “Shall we?”

Effortlessly she slid into my arms. For a brief moment, I allowed myself to simply enjoy the feel of her body close to mine. The song was a slow, jazzy ballad perfect for swaying to. Both of us, though, were too practiced as dancers to ever simply sway.

We were silent for a few moments as I glided her across the dance floor, each of us learning and concentrating on the movements of the other.

“You’ve done this before,” Mackenzie said, smiling, as I spun her to the right.

“Never underestimate the benefits of a good dance instructor.”

“Miss Davenport’s?” She asked, naming a school I knew catered to the wealthy.

“No. I took lessons in England as a boy, where I was born.”

“Why don’t you sound like your brother, then? His accent is charming.”

I lifted a brow as I stared down at her. “And mine isn’t?”

The tips of her ears went pink. “I meant,” she said, “When Charlie opens his mouth you know he’s English-born. I don’t hear a hint of anything in your voice.”

“It’s because I grew up in the States. When my parents divorced, my father wanted to come back here after being away from the country for almost a decade. He’d been running his business from England, but with the split, decided to return. Charlie got mom and I got dad in the divorce settlement.”

“That’s sad. But you two kept in touch, right?”

“Of course. He’s family. My older brother.” I grinned down at her. “Of course, he does like to laud the older part over me.” I glided her to the left. “We saw one another on most of my school holidays. The bond between us is strong.”

Her sigh drifted over me, the sound like the high register keys on a piano tinkling.

“It must be nice to have a sibling. I always wanted one, but.” She delicately lifted a shoulder.

“A blessing and a curse is what I tell people having a big brother is like.”

Her smile was like a thunderbolt and knocked me back as if I’d been struck by its force.

“So,” she asked, “how do you know Gideon?”

“I don’t. Not personally. I know of him through Nell. He’s friends with her new stepfather.”

“William McNab.”

“Yeah. When Charlie mentioned they were attending this shindig tonight, I wormed an invite.”

“Why?”

To meet you would have been an answer I’d need to explain, so I told her instead, “The cause is a worthy one and my mother raised us to support worthy causes.”

She nodded. “His clinic is wonderful. He takes in anyone, whether they can afford to pay for the top-notch care they receive, or not. One hundred percent of tonight’s proceeds from the silent auction are earmarked to continue that service.”

“Worthy and noble,” I said.

I glided her around a couple who’d stopped to speak to another pair of dancers.

“So, is this how you spend your free time, Mackenzie Craymore? Attend charity auctions? Hobnob with society movers and shakers? Have lunch with friends?”

“Dance with strange men?” she said back, making me laugh.

“Touche. I didn’t mean to sound snarky. I’d just like to get to know you better.”

That must have touched a cord. Her expression blanked a bit. “I keep busy,” she responded, noncommittally.

“Which tells me absolutely nothing.” I smiled when I said it.

“A woman likes to be a little mysterious,” she said, her lips twitching. “How about you? What do you do all day when you’re not attending charity fundraisers garbed in a five thousand dollar tuxedo?”

My brows shot up.

“I know the brand.” Her cheeks pinked a bit. Of course she did. As a professional social media influence, she must. But she didn’t tell me how she knew it.

Interesting. Her new career wasn’t a secret, not to people who knew who she was, anyway. Why hide it from me?

Since I hadn’t answered her question yet, I decided to go with my version of the truth. “I spend my days attempting to write the great American novel.”

“How’s that going?”

“Not well, lately. But it looks as if things are starting to look up. Right at this minute they are, at least.”

The implication she was the reason wasn’t lost on her. A rosy flush started at the tips of her ears and drifted down to her cheeks and jawline.

The music pulled to a stop. We didn’t. With the silent band surrounding us, we continued to move as if lazy music pushed us on. If anyone thought it odd, I didn’t care.

“How do you feel about lunch?” I asked.

She blinked a few times. “I eat it two, maybe three times a week.”

Again, I couldn’t help but smile at her dry humor. Was there anything more alluring than a beautiful, sexy woman who could make you laugh?

“Care to make one of those two or three times with me?”

#SundaySnippet 3.21.2021

Recently, my indie published RomCom IT’S A TRUST THING went wide, meaning it’s now available across all digital devices. Here’s the link : IATT.

Today’s snippet is from the book.

A few “’Night, professors,” reached my ears and when I lifted my gaze to the entranceway, Charlie was standing there again, much the way he’d been before the class started: one shoulder relaxed against the doorjamb, his briefcase in one hand, his other in his pants pocket.
Lord, the man could have popped off the cover of a fashionable menswear magazine. No one should look that delectable in real life.
When the last of the students exited, he entered. My pulse rate tripled the closer he came. With a smile I can only describe as irresistible and devastatingly sensual, he leaned down once he reached the podium, those lips twitching at the corners, and said, “Looks like I’m not the only one who’s smitten with you.”
And then he pressed that gorgeous mouth right to mine.
I inhaled him as he smiled against my lips, and just like that, without a word or a notion of a warning, my heart turned over.
Was it possible to fall in love in an instant? To know the person you were with was the one; the true one? The one meant for you, destined to be yours for eternity?
In the time it took me to consider how dumb it all sounded in this day and age, I countered with the ferocity of the emotions coursing through me.
Was this love? Was this what the poets clamored on about and romance writers swore truly did exist?
I didn’t have an answer, since I’d never felt this way before. No other man had ever caused such a commotion and chaos inside my mind and heart as this one did.
The thought was terrifying, enlightening, and hopeful all at once.
But even if what I was experiencing was love it didn’t mean Charlie felt the same. Smitten wasn’t exactly an I’ll love you forevermore declaration, maybe more just a pronouncement of intent. We’d gotten past my third date rule, so the question of exploring one another on a more intimate basis was definitely on the table.
But sex didn’t equate with love, this I knew for fact.
No, my feelings were my own and since they were new and raw and unfamiliar, I didn’t want them revealed, so when he pulled back from the kiss I reverted to type.
“Are you sure you don’t teach English Lit? Because ‘smitten’ simply screams Jane Austen.”
His grin grew to a wicked cheek-wide smirk that had my insides going bonkers again.
“They’re considered classics for a reason,” he said as he reached over and grabbed my briefcase. “Come on. I’m hungry and I’ve been looking forward all day to spending some time alone with you.”
Awww. Forget flutter. My tummy muscles moved into disco dance mode.
Intrigued? I hope so. Heehee

Happy Release day for IT’S A TRUST THING!

So excited that I finally figured out all this publishing stuff! Hee hee

IT’S A TRUST THING went livelivelive at midnight and now is available across all digital media, so you aren’t limited t only reading it on a Kindle.

Nell Newbery has trust issues. It’s hard to trust when you’re the daughter of a fallen financial scion who bilked people out of billions. Nell’s done everything in her power to keep away from men who see her as their ticket to fortune and fame. All she wants to do is run her ultra-successful business, HELPFUL HUNKS, in peace.

But it wouldn’t hurt to find a guy who doesn’t know a thing about her father’s felonious past; one she can give her heart to and trust it won’t come back to her battered, bruised, and broken.

Is Charlie Churchill that guy? On the surface he seems perfect, all polished manners and quiet mirth. Nell’s convinced he knows nothing about her, other than she likes superhero movies and views junk food as a food group.

Can she trust him to be what he appears to be? Or is he just pretending?

For Nell, trust is everything in life…and in love.

IT’S A TRUST THING goes WIDE!

When I first started on the crooked road to self/indie publishing, I had to learn a lot of things.

A LOT of things.

So many things that my head hurt. I watched more youtube and amazon instructional videos about how to format, market, price, and edit your own books that I dreamed about coding for weeks.

Well, I tackled the amazon part of publishing, so the natural next step would be to learn how to publish over different digital platforms. I wouldn’t say I’ve mastered the art yet, but I’m getting my feet wet and trying.

On March 1, 2021, IT’S A TRUST THING, my very first self/indie published romance, goes into wide distribution digitally.  The book will be available from all these digital suppliers:

So, if you’ve got a nook, or read through Kobo, now is your chance to order the book in that format.

I have to admit doing this terrifies me. I’m so afraid I did something wrong and when people order the book they’ll wind up with digital gibberish instead of text.

So if you don’t hear from me on March 1, it’s because I’m having an anxiety attack! Not kidding. Not even a little.

Who knew at this advanced age I’d need to be my own publisher??? Not me, that’s for sure.

But… if this works out without any mishaps, I’ll be putting WOKE up next on April 1.

If it doesn’t, well, I’m going to crawl back into my writing hole and just….write. Leave the publishing to others with more experience, knowledge, and patience.

Pray for me, peeps. Pray for me…..

Until next time ~ Peg

Release day for WOKE…A Sleeping Beauty Redux

So the day has finally come and I am sososo stoked!!

WOKE released at midnight and I am hopeful  for all those who pre-ordered it that it arrived, unscathed, and you enjoy reading it.

The book was a tiny bit of a departure for me. It’s still, technically a romance, but I’d really classify it more like a woman’s coming of age story. WOKE tells the story of Aurora Brightwell, a woman who, at her 21st birthday party, was slipped a powerful drug cocktail and lapsed into a coma for 10 years ( That’s the sleeping beauty part, hee hee). She doesn’t wait for love’s first kiss to awaken her, though. When she comes back to the land of the living all she wants to do is get her body back to working order and get on with the life that was almost robbed from her.

But….

First she has to learn how to live again, and then she has to decide what to do about the mystery surrounding her past. Enter a handsome  financier, and the detective charged with finding out what happened to her all those years ago. Add in a sub plot involving Aurora’s BFF from long ago, and a reunited lovers story and the book is really so much more than a romance.

If you think this is a morose, sad and Debbie Downer book  – let me assure you,  it’s not. The book is filled with love, laughter, and a few characters you’ll be seeing again from me.

WOKE is exclusively offered thru Amazon, Kindle, and KU in both print and ecopy, here: WOKE

Happy reading, peeps ~ Peg

#TeaserThursday 6.18.2020

Since this book comes out in 13 days, I figured a few lines from its pages would be a good teaser for today.

Here’s the blurb so you know what’s what:

Waking up each day is a gift….

On her 21st birthday, someone slipped a potent drug combination into socialite Aurora Brightwell’s champagne putting her in a coma for the next ten years. It’s been a long road back, and it’s time to reclaim the life she lost and find out exactly what happened on that fateful night.

Financier Kincade Enright has his own reason for helping Aurora discover who poisoned her, but for the time being he’s keeping that – and his true identity – to himself. What he can’t keep hidden though, are his growing feelings for the one-time paparazzi darling and party-girl.

When this prince of finance joins forces with the former sleeping beauty, nothing can stop them from finding the answers they seek…or prevent the powerful emotions developing between them as they search for the truth.

And here’s the teaser:

“Sorry I’m late,” I said when I met Cade at The Smith on Friday evening. “Traffic was ridiculous. I hope you haven’t been waiting long.”

“I offered to pick you up,” Cade said, rising from his seat. He took one of my hands in his and bussed my cheek. “But you insisted we meet here.”

“It just made sense from a travel standpoint.”

The waiter held my chair for me to sit; a server immediately filled a water glass.

“I took the liberty of ordering a bottle of wine,” Cade took his own seat across from me. “I hope you don’t mind.”

I flittered my hand at him. “Not at all. A glass of wine sounds great about now.”

While the sommelier appeared instantly at his side, I took stock of Cade.

Or more accurately, Cade in a tuxedo.

A well fitted, expensive-as-sin, double breasted, midnight black tuxedo, complete with a bow tie I knew without a doubt wasn’t a clip on.

The man had been a walking advertisement for yummy in the suit he wore to the auction. But a tuxedo increased his hot and sexy quotient to a level I don’t think I’d ever graded a man on before.

He wore it as if he’d been born to it.

He wore it as if he’d been born in it.

The deep, inky color set-off the green in his eyes, deepening them to an unrefined, natural jade.

While he lifted his glass and sampled the wine, diamond cufflinks on his wrists winked in the dim, mood lighting around us.

This man oozed class and wealth from every pore.

He gave a quick nod of acceptance then waited while our glasses were seen to.

“Alone at last,” Cade said, the corners of his lips lifting. We clinked glasses, sipped.

“Oh that’s nice,” I said, the dry, slight citrus flavor dancing over my palette and making my taste buds hum. “Good choice.”

“I’m glad you like it.” He lowered his glass then leaned in closer across the small table and took my free hand. “You look lovely tonight.”

Something warm settled in me and I don’t think it was the wine. Flirty Rory showed herself as I cocked an eyebrow and asked, “Only tonight?”

His smile was quick and devastating. “More so tonight than usual.”

Intrigued? Or should I asked, teased? Hee hee.
