Helping out during the pandemic

The other day I turned 60.

Egads, I still balk when I think of that. Just yesterday I was 21. Oh well… I digress.

For my birthday I usually get my yearly mammogram but due to a scheduling nightmare with my local clinic, I now have them in October. So…I wondered what I could do, health-wise, this year.

Many of you know in my former life I was a Registered Nurse. I also have several family members who still currently work in health care in New York and are the front lines of the pandemic every single day. I’ve wanted to do something to help but couldn’t figure out what.

Until it came to me…..give a little of myself to help others. In my twenties and thirties, I gave blood yearly and am a proud member of the gallon club!

Happenstance had it that the American Red Cross was having a blood drive in my town on the 19th, so I called, made an appointment, and then gave a pint. Easy peasy.

Several years ago my daughter had surgery and had a post-operative complication that caused her to lose over half of her blood. She required several transfusions while in the ICU. When she was all healed she decided to give back the gift of life people had given her, because without those transfusions she would have died.

I’m not being dramatic. It’s the God’s truth she would have.

So during the pandemic when I’ve been lucky enough to avoid the Covid curse, I felt it was the right thing to do to give back in my own small way, too.

Have you ever given blood? It’s not hard, painful, or dangerous. And your donation just may save a life.

Consider it. You never know if someday you’ll need the gift of life, or someone you love will.

Until next time, peeps ~ Peg
