A little bit more about A Witch’s Quandary:

Gale’s engagement is off because she refuses to leave her thriving business in Ireland to follow Dillon to Scotland. Her family and friends are on the emerald isle. Yet, when Dillon returns with the whole story and asks for her help, she must follow her heart.

Becoming a Solicitor, then partner in the family law firm was never Dillon’s dream. Now it’s his nightmare. Called to Scotland, his father demands he take his rightful place in the firm or be disowned and disinherited. Something is terribly amiss in the firm and family.

During Gale and Dillon’s investigation, they discover the enforcer for the Demon Overlord is also delving into rumors the firm is acting illegally. Magic has been stolen, someone is being blackmailed, and a member of the Witch’s council is corrupt. If Gale and Dillon want a life together in Ireland, they have to unearth secrets threatening to destroy the firm and family in Scotland.

A sneak peek between the pages of A Witch’s Quandary:

“This is an outrage. It’s my firm.” Bram bellowed slamming his fist down on the table. Sparks flew in all directions creating a red-hot spider web of power crackling across the tabletop. Everyone at the table scrambled back or stood.  Dillon caught the malevolent spark in his father’s eye a split-second after Gale. She had already brought her hands together, the room sizzled as she conjured a ball of fire and with a few words sent the witch fire and spell at him.

“What have you done?” Bram screeched as the fire and spell hit him center mass. “Witchfire too? Bitch.” He slid to the floor.

Iris ran to his side, tears spilling her cheeks, she wiped his sweat-soaked brow with a napkin. “You just couldn’t stop, could you?  What did you do? Make a deal with the devil? We should have put a stop to it. To you. But…” She helped him into a chair. “I’m afraid you’ve messed with the wrong witch, this time. Brought this on yourself. You did. But I won’t let you take this family—the firm—down with you.” Giving his shoulders a little shake, she gazed into his shocked eyes. “What have you done?”

Bram slowly shook his head and murmured, “It’s my firm.” He raised his gaze and glared at Gale pointing a bony finger at her. “You’ll pay for this.” Then turned his attention to Dillon. “I told you nothing good would come from aligning yourself with this witch. Her blood is not pure. Diluted by the Fae power of her…” He broke off.

Dillon stood at Gale’s back his hands steady and supportive on her shoulders as she said nothing for several beats. Eventually, she turned her emerald green eyes to him and held his gaze. “I couldn’t let him divide the family with that dark magic. I tempered my deadly witch fire with the spell.” She tore her gaze from Dillon’s, touching her fingertips to the scorched marks radiating across the table stopping an inch from the edge all around. “If he’d succeeded, there’d been no turning back. If the tendrils of that spell had left the table and reached one of you…” She shook her head.

Appearing to gather his wits about him faster than the rest of his family, Sturgen surveyed the scene, wiped his brow with a monogrammed handkerchief, and sucked in a breath. “The firm is no longer yours.” He squeezed Olivia to him, starting for the door. “We’ve had enough for one night. Let’s adjourn until a full audit of the cases and firm can be conducted.”

A visit with ROOT BREW FLOATS author Sydney Winward

Have you heard about the Wild Rose Press’ s newest novella series ONE SCOOP OR TWO?

One of the books in that series is by today’s guest author and fellow WRP sistah  SYDNEY WINWARD

Sydney agreed to share a little about what led to her submission ROOT BREW FLOAT for the series for you all, so take it away, Sydney….

When I heard of the call for submissions for The Wild Rose Press One Scoop or Two Series, I just couldn’t pass up such a fun opportunity! But what to write about? I drew a blank. When you think of ice cream, you think of contemporary, of beaches, of summer. Hmm…well…I’m not usually a contemporary writer, so this had me stumped.

When in doubt, ask the husband!

Who knew an engineer could actually have great, creative ideas for books? He helped me brainstorm, and we came up with a semi-satisfying idea about witches and ice cream. So I sat down and wrote my synopsis.

But when I took it back to him, he turned to me and said, “This is way too dark for a light-hearted beach read.”

Dejectedly, I went and pouted for a little while, and then back to the drawing board! Or rather, the clacking keyboard. I smoothed out the idea and set it aside for a week, letting my brain do its thing. I come up with most of my scene ideas at night when I finally climb in bed. I didn’t write for an entire week. Oh, what torture! But the novella came together nicely, all the kinks smoothed out of the twists and turns.

And finally, I started writing! My husband has yet to read my novella. And my first book too. And anything I’ve written, really. But I’m satisfied with my submission for the One Scoop or Two Series, and I’m so excited that it’s released!

Watch out, world! Josephine Brevil has landed in Massachusetts.

Blurb:

Josephine Brevil has lived hundreds of years haunted by the horrors she experienced during the Salem Witch Trials. She takes great care to hide her powers, though serving a Root Brew Float laced with a magic potion now and again never hurt anybody. The Order sends her to Massachusetts to deal with a paranormal threat, and she meets the young and handsome widower, Clarence Watts. However, being with him comes with a choice. How can she choose between the man she loves and the magic she holds dear?

Excerpt:

“There’s a reason we’re inside the circle. Nothing can touch us in here. Now close your eyes and listen to my voice.” She paused for a moment to take a deep breath, channeling the magic swirling within her core. “Clarence Watts, our task here is to send your deceased wife into the afterlife, beyond the door and into the next realm. If you have done as I previously instructed, you have gotten rid of many of Heidi’s earthly belongings, which is a crucial step to letting her go. Now, imagine a rope that connects you to Heidi. Cut it and sever the tie.”

“It can’t be that simple.”

“It’s not. It’s symbolic of freeing her, but the act of letting go is another story altogether.”

“I’m not sure how I’m supposed to let her go.”

“Cling onto something else you care about. It usually helps.”

His hands tightened around hers. She cracked her eyes open, her heart racing as she stared at their conjoined hands. The word home echoed in her mind again, and when she tried to push it away, it slammed back into her stronger than before.

Home is with the Order, she insisted.

Yet, her pounding heart didn’t believe her.

#author Peggy Chambers and Witches’ Cliff a #DeerbourneInn Novella

I get excited every single time I get to share another new DEERBOURNE INN series book with you. Today, it’s WRP sistah PEGGY CHAMBERS who has the newest addition to the series, a Romantic Fantasy titled WITCHES CLIFF

I always want to know the how and why authors are included in a series – and Peggy was gracious enough to answer all my nosy questions! I’ll let her tell you all about the process for getting WITCHES CLIFF to the Deerbourne Inn Series…

  1. Why did you want to be included in the Deerbourne Inn series? I’ve never been involved in a series with The Wild Rose Press before. When I first came on board, the publisher was working on the Lobster Cove series and it sounded like fun. I wanted to try it.
  2. Where did you get the idea for your submission? When it was first suggested that the stories would revolve around holidays, I chose Halloween. I thought most authors would want Christmas. I sometimes write fantasy and never strictly romance. So, Halloween fit my style. I wrote about a modern-day witch who went to the place her 10 times great-grandmother died during the Salem Witch Trials. In my story, Vermont had similar trials, but the witches were thrown from a cliff instead of burned at the stake. Still and awful way to die. She hoped to seek her grandmother’s advice on All Hallows Eve at the place where she met her demise.
  3. What is the genre of your Deerbourne Inn addition? Romantic Fantasy.
  4. What research did you have to do for your book? (if any) I looked up Vermont, Salem Witch Trials, and the Green Mountains. I also researched modern-day Wicca and where to find local wines.
  5. Was it hard being under a word count restriction of 40,000 or less? Typically, what length are your books? My books run around 65,000 words or less than 300 pages. My novella was shorter than some because I write more concisely than some authors. If a story is told, why go on and on? Ha! Actually, I just probably don’t have as much to say as some people.
  6. Plotter or pantser? I tried waiting for the story to tell me what it wanted to do, and I found it often was absent. I have to plan.
  7. Did having the book bible for DEERBOURNE INN help you with your writing? Yes, I used the book bible for the Deerbourne Inn series. It helped and I even used the map. I set the cliffs near the abandoned quarry which seemed to make sense. For instance, did knowing the names of the town businesses or the townspeople help with what you created for your book? Yes, it helped make the town and the inn come alive. I tried to include the innkeeper, book seller, and owner of the restaurant. My main character also bought Halloween candy at the local story.
  8. Have you ever been to Vermont, the setting for DI? I’ve never been to Vermont but would love to go. It is much different than the wide-open plains here in Oklahoma.
  9. What is the underlying theme of your DI book? Penny, never needed anyone’s advice though she sought it. She knew what she wanted and was strong enough to get it done.
  10. Have you ever been included in a series like DI before? What do you think are its benefits? I’ve never been involved in a series before and I hoped to get to know more of The Wild Rose Press authors by being included. And I have! I am proud to be a part of this series.
  11. How long did it take you to write the book? I wrote the novella in a couple of months and ran it by my critique group before submission. They are wonderful and I don’t know what I’d do without their honest approach to my writing. My editor with The Wild Rose Press, Ally Robertson, always makes me look good.
Penny Winters flees to her birthplace in Vermont to consider the marriage proposal she left behind in Salem. Complicating her already difficult decision, she is smitten when she encounters handyman Liam on the porch of the quaint Deerbourne Inn. A modern-day wiccan, Penny intends to contact her distant great-grandmother, who died on the cliffs when Willow Springs held witch trials. Penny needs advice, and the best time to connect to her ancestors is on Halloween. But she is not the only witch in Willow Springs, and they both have their eye on the same man. And who is the old woman who keeps appearing, telling her to go home? Penny comes to the cliff to seek Grandma’s advice. But Halloween is an important holiday for a witch, and she is not alone on the cliffs that night. Penny will have to battle not only for Liam’s attention, but for her life.

A visit with #WildRosePress author Tena Stetler

It’s always a treat for me when a Wild Rose Press sistah drops by to chat – especially when it’s to chat about books and new releases! Today, Tena Stetler drops by to discuss her newest release A MAGIC REDEMPTION, book 5 in A Demon’s Witch series.  It’s in my Kindle queue and I can’t wait to start it! Sit back and let’s listen to Tena…

Good Morning Peggy. Thanks for inviting me over to talk about my new release A Magic Redemption. I am so excited!

Synn the heroine of A Magic Redemption, fifth book of A Demon’s Witch Series, bounced into being during the writing of A Vampire’s Unlikely Alliance. I was surprised to see her transformation from a controlled warrior assassin that finally failed to do her master’s bidding. Then she risked her life to share important information to Bruce, the Demon Overlord for the Western Hemisphere for the benefit of man and magic kind. In exchange she was given her freedom and discovered what it was like to be part of a family again.

She was much more of a spit-fire than I imagined. Not having given it much thought until my editor, Lill, asked me what happened to Synn and Gavin at the end of A Vampire’s Unlikely Alliance. It gave me pause, until Synn danced through my mind, tapping her tiny foot and demanding that I write her story. Now! Gavin took flight right behind her in support of her demands. What choice did I have? A Magic Redemption was born.

I hope the readers have as much fun reading her story as I did writing it.

(Peggy here – I am sure we all will!!!)

A MAGIC REDEMPTION by Tena Stetler

Blub:

Synn, a demon, carries extraordinary magic and power, but there is more within her than she dreams. Kidnapped as a child, her captors murdered her family and forced her into training as a warrior assassin. When an assignment goes horribly wrong, she finds herself at the mercy of the friends and family of her intended target.  Offering valuable information in exchange for protection, she gains her freedom, but it is not without its challenges.

Gavin Shaughnessy is the publican at his family’s Irish pub.  He is certain Synn is meant to be his and isn’t bothered by her past.  He must find a way to convince her, their future together is stronger than the dark memories that haunt her dreams.

When her past comes calling for revenge, will their love survive the raging inferno she brings down upon them? Or will the searing path of destruction destroy all they hold dear?

Exclusive Excerpt:

Darkness engulfed her. The voices in her head returned calling her a traitor suggesting retribution would be sweet and exacted soon. She fought against the words and covered her ears. As suddenly as the booming words came, it was silent. The dream shifted to a dank room, without windows, or light, and a darkness she could almost feel. Scraping sounds against a large wooden plank door grated on her nerves.

Magic failed her leaving her drained and unresponsive. She curled up in a fetal position. Baltizar’s voice whispered again in her mind. “I still control you. They’re all going to die a horrible death at my hands. You will get to watch. Just like when you failed to save your family.”

His wicked laugh echoed though her mind and faded. A warm liquid flowed over her hands. She looked down. They were covered in blood. Bodies were strewn over what looked like the dirt floor of a cave. Screaming, she awoke soaked with sweat, head pounding and blood trickled from her palms where her finger nails had sliced through the skin.

A loud bark came from the foot of her bed. She stumbled out of bed and rushed to Storm’s crate, knelt, and yanked open the door. A warm, fur ball bounded into her lap, the dog covered her face with kisses. She sat on the floor, tears streaming down her face dripping on the soft fur she buried her face in.

Never allowed to cry, she allowed the flood gates open, and cried for her family, mistakes made, decisions forced upon her, and wished she’d died in the battle with Baltizar. She wouldn’t be responsible for the deaths of her new friends, Gavin and his family, or Storm.
