The Cowboy’s Secret Baby, a new release from Author Maddie James

I’m so excited for today because I get to introduce you to one of my Romance Gems sistahs, multi-published author, Maddie James.

Maddie has a new book out TODAY and she very graciously agreed to let me tell you all a little about it. If you’re a sucker for Cowboys, Secret baby’s and sweet romance, THE COWBOY’S SECRET BABY is for you!

 Blurb

While Kim Martin and Thad Winchester find their happily-ever-after in Roses & Rawhide, their best friends, Jillie Abernathy and Mack Montgomery, end their sleeping-bag-sharing relationship during the rugged, two-week pack trip into the Colorado San Juan mountains.

But when Kim and Thad host their wedding at Thad’s Colorado ranch a few months later, Mack and Jillie must come face-to-face with reality—and with each other. She’s the maid of honor. He’s the best man. Both are harboring secrets—secrets that could break a potential future relationship if they both avoid telling the truth.

Can they reveal those secrets to each other? And if so, can they get past the withheld truths to plan a future together?

 Excerpt

Mack exhaled. “The company is a multi-billion-dollar international business, Jillie. I’m the CEO for Montgomery Oil out of San Antonio, a Fortune 500 company.”

Jillie felt her face screw up. He was the CEO of an oil company? “Oil?” It was the only word she could squeak out.

“Yes.”

“In San Antonio.”

“Yes.”

“That’s Texas. You own a Texas oil company? Did you say multi-billion?

“Yes.”

“Then you’re…” She unwound her legs and stood. The afghan dropped to the floor. Only one way to say it. “Rich.” She glanced about and tossed up her hands. “Of course, you are. Look at this house!” She picked up the afghan and wrapped it around her shoulders again, paced away from the sofa, turned, and glared. “You’re rich. You’re a billionaire. You are goddamn rich?”

“Yes.”

“Can you say anything else but yes?” The question came out a little louder and more forceful than she intended. “You’re a freaking billionaire?”

“I suppose you could say that.”

“Suppose?”

“Well, the company is worth billions. Me? It’s debatable but let’s just say I’m very comfortable. It’s not like having money is a bad thing, Jillie.”

She faced him. All this time she thought him a real-life cowboy. Did it matter that he wasn’t? That he was stinking rich and had failed to tell her that? But why would he? She imagined that might be a difficult thing to work into regular conversation. “I don’t know what to say.”

Mack stood and shoved his hands into his pockets. “It’s all true.”

She stood stone still and glared. “You were rich last summer.”

Exhaling, Mack took a few steps forward and reached for her arms. Jillie jerked back. “Jillie, yes. My family has been well-off all my life. However, I know hard work, so don’t think I’m just a guy in a suit. I grew up on a cattle ranch and I did rodeo like my brothers most of my growing up years. I am a cowboy, a rancher, through and through. Dad made sure we understood the value of hard work and I have mucked stalls and rode fences and moved cattle with the best of them. But I also went to college and got an MBA. I worked hard. And when the time came to go back home, when my dad needed me, I did. I left Colorado for a while, stopped working with Thad, and finally made use of that degree.”

“Why didn’t you just tell me? Why did you let me believe you were Thad’s ranch manager? I don’t understand what the big deal is.” She paused then and stared into his eyes. “Oh.”

“Oh?”

“Yes, oh. You didn’t tell me because you thought all I was after was a cowboy conquest. If I knew you were a billionaire, I might also be a gold-digger, huh? Only after your money?”

He stepped closer. “No, Jillie, actually, that wasn’t it at all.”

“I’m not sure I believe you—but to tell you the truth, I can understand it if you did think that.”

“Well, it wasn’t that.”

“Then what?”

“Because I didn’t want to be a CEO those two weeks, Jillie. I went on that pack trip because Thad was short-handed, yes, but mostly because I needed a break from Corporate America. I took a two-week vacation and gladly handed over my cell phone. My younger brother took the reins while I was gone, and with dad’s help on the sidelines, he was fine. All I wanted to do was play cowboy again for a while and disappear into the mountains. I didn’t want to talk about my other life. No cares, just me and my horse and the trail.” He peered deep into her eyes, then shifted his gaze over her shoulder, thinking. His voice lowered. “I just hadn’t counted on you.”

Author Kathryn Hills talks about SECONDHAND HEARTS, a Last Chance Beach story..

I’m involved with a great bunch of authors over on the ROMANCE GEMS blog and 14 of them have just collaborated to put out a fabulous Boxed set titled LAST CHANCE BEACH – Summer’s End. One of those wonderful and talented authors happens to be a dear friend of mine and she agreed to stop by today and talk up the books a bit. Kathryn Hills and I are NHRWA sistahs and I’m one of her biggest writing fans! I’m gonna let her take it over now to introduce you this great series of stories.

Kathy….

Secondhand Hearts by Kathryn Hills

A Last Chance Beach: Summer’s End Story

August and the end of summer. *sigh* It’s a bittersweet time for me. You see…I’m a fall-loving, Halloween-addicted, paranormal/fantasy romance author living in New England, the epicenter of Autumn. BUT I grew up near the ocean, and I have spent countless happy days on the waves. As a matter of fact, I’ve never lived more than one hour from the coast. And that is perfectly fine by me. So, when I was given the opportunity to write for a boxed set of short romantic stories, set on a vacation island paradise called Last Chance Beach, I was all onboard!

It was an exciting new experience for me, writing for a collaborative effort. Fourteen bestselling and award-winning authors, all coming together to create a setting of sun, sand, and salty kisses. My little corner of this lovely island community includes Secondhand Antique Shop and Sandpiper Cottage B&B. Still, my characters get to visit other author’s settings. There are restaurants, bars, hotels, cottages, a lighthouse, and a pier… Many cool places to explore.

What else was new for me is that I wrote SHORT (all stories are under 10K words), SWEET (I’m what’s considered a Spicy writer), and CONTEMPORARY (my previous books are time travel/fantasy, so historical in part). Yet that didn’t slow me down. I wrote Secondhand Hearts in record time. A book of my soul. A story that has been rattling around in my head for over a decade, because it’s based on real places I’ve been and loved. So, without further ado, let’s go to the beach!

SECONDHAND HEARTS

Life takes you down many winding paths. Will theirs lead to love on Last Chance Beach?

Blurb:

Tasked with convincing her beloved grandmother to move back to the mainland, Kat Worthington returns to Last Chance Beach. This vacation island paradise is filled with cherished memories, and the thought of relocating her loved one weighs heavy on Kat’s heart. Is the alternative to uproot her life, stay on the island, and help run Gran’s charming B&B and antique shop?

Handsome neighbor, Ben Hadley, sure hopes it is. He and his playful pup are doing their best to upend Kat’s plans. Will their efforts convince her to stay?

Or will it require some of Gran’s special island magic?

“Look at that… Didn’t even break the pot.” Gran gave her a sassy little wink. “You’ve always been one for divine timing, Kitty.”

“Pot?”

“Yup, I knew I had a matching teapot to the set that came in yesterday.” Gran stood a little straighter and squared her chin. “Besides, I’m not alone. Ben is here.”

“Who the heck is Ben?”

“That’d be me.” A deep voice came from behind, startling Kat. Spinning with a gasp, her eyes widened when connecting with six feet plus of drop-dead gorgeous, dark-haired man. He met her stare full on without so much as a hint of humility, and he nodded a curt greeting.

“Haddie Marshall are you up to your old tricks again?” Ben brushed passed Kat. “I told you to wait and I’d look with you.”

“Well, I didn’t want you to fuss. I know you’re busy.”

“Excuse me,” Kat interrupted, not bothering to disguise the irritation in her voice. “Who are you, and why would you allow my seventy-seven-year-old grandmother to climb to the scorching top of a barn and up a ladder for a teapot?”

The man stared in silence. One dark brow cocked in obvious annoyance.

“Ben Hadley meet my first grandbaby, Kitty Worthington,” Gran announced with a proud smile.

“It’s Kat, Gran. Or Katrina,” she grumbled. “No one has called me Kitty since the fifth grade.”

“Oh, shush child, you will always be Kitty to me and Grandpa Mike.” The elderly woman’s smile fell away. She took a wobbly step forward to hand Ben the box. “Be a love and take this down for me. I think I’d better hang on extra tight to the railing after all this excitement.”

“I’ll take the box,” Kat snapped. “You help my grandmother back to the house, where we can turn on some air conditioning.”

About Kathryn Hills

The rich history and many mysteries of New England are the perfect backdrop for most of KATHRYN’S books. Winding roads lined by old stone walls, forgotten cemeteries, grand homes with shadowy pasts…all sparks for her imagination. Whether it’s a quaint seaside town or the vibrant city of Boston, it’s easy for this “hauntingly romantic” author to envision the past mingling with the present.

Taking it further—to have characters experience the past and present, opposite to “when” they belong—is the fun part. No surprise, some of Kathryn’s favorite stories involve time travel. And ghosts! Sprinkle in some magic, and you’re off on a great adventure.

When not writing, this award-winning author is researching, taking photographs, gardening, or cooking up something special in her chaotic kitchen. Kathryn shares her colonial home in the north woods with those she loves most – her wonderful husband and daughter, and three crazy dogs.

A little about my friend, Lucinda Race:

Award winning author, Lucinda Race is a life long fan of romantic fiction. As a young girl, she spent hours reading novels and dreaming of, one day, becoming a writer.

As life twists and turns, she found herself writing nonfiction but longed to turn to her true passion, romantic fiction. After developing the story line for The Loudon Series, it was time to start living her dream. With fingers flying over computer keys, she does her best to bleed on the page.

Lucinda lives, with her husband Rick, and their two little dogs, Jasper and Griffin, in the rolling hills of western Massachusetts. When she’s not writing romance novels Lucinda still reads everything she can get her hands on.

A new mystery from #author J.M. Hudson…

My Romance Gems sistah JUDITH HUDSON is back with me today! I’m giving the floor all to her as she tells you about her new book TEMPLE OF THE JAGUAR   written under the name J.M/ Hudson.

Remember when we used to travel?

Hi everyone,

Last week I told you about the three book romance boxed set, Welcome to Fortune Bay, but today I’m excited to introduce Temple of the Jaguar,  the first book in the Rocky and Bernadette travel mystery series.

What readers are saying about Temple of the Jaguar:

“A fun fast paced murder mystery that takes you on a tour of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico!”

“[an] entertaining murder mystery … I look forward to more travel adventures with Bernadette and Rocky.”

The blurb:

Former archaeologist and single mother Bernadette Mallow is on her first assignment with Let’s Travel magazine, covering a Maya Cultural Tour deep in the Yucatan jungle. After years of transcribing her former professor’s dry academic notes, this is her dream job, but she has to do a good job if she wants more work with the magazine.

Her new partner, photographer Rocky Falconi, is difficult to win over and, to make matters worse, Bernadette’s annoying second sight is acting up, warning her something is terribly wrong.

When bodies start turning up in the lagoon, Bernadette always seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, drawing unwanted attention from the Mexican police. That’s when Rocky decides it’s time to step in.

Before someone else gets hurt—or dies.

This travel adventure is an exciting escape from these days when most of us are stuck at home! You can get the ebook of Temple of the Jaguar now here:

A little about Judy….

Judy grew up in Toronto Canada and St. Louis MO, then moved to the Pacific Northwest where she now lives on beautiful Vancouver Island.

Her romantic women’s fiction series, Fortune Bay Books, is set in the Pacific Northwest. In each book, someone at a crossroads of their life moves into a ramshackle cabin on Majestic Lake where they work through their problems with the help of friends and family, and the occasional nudge from the friendly spirit of Aunt Augusta. If a romance grows in the process, and it always does, well, so much the better.

As an landscape artist and photographer, the setting of the story is very important to Judy. “I’ve painted in the area for many years and I think it helps me make the setting real for the reader, helps draw them into the story. My characters are often artists, like Maddie, the darkroom photographer in Summer of Fortune who is at Fortune Bay for the summer to work on her first professional show, and Stephanie, the widowed matriarch of the clan who is finding a new life as a painter.”
