This is always one of my favorite writing prompts – FAVORITE BOOK OR MOVIE QUOTES ( and why!)

I’m gonna do both. Books, first

From NEW YORK TO DALLAS by J.D.Robb.

“Want to finish, give my report. Is my face messed up? I hate when that happens. Not like I’m pretty or anything, but–”

“You are the most beautiful woman ever born,” Roarke said from the doorway.

“You should be kissed and often, and by someone who knows how.”

Gone With The Wind by Margaret Mitchell

“In vain I have struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.”

Pride And Prejudice by Jane Austen

“I can’t sleep, I can’t eat, I can’t do anything but think about him. At night I dream of him, all day I wait to see him, and when I do see him my heart turns over and I think I will faint with desire.”

The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory

“Tis better to have loved and lost, Than never to have loved at all.”

In Memoriam A.H.H. by Alfred Lord Tennyson

And now the movies

“After all… I’m just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her.” Anna Scott, Notting Hill (1999)

“You should be kissed and often, and by someone who knows how.” Rhett Butler, Gone With the Wind (1939)

“You have bewitched me, body and soul, and I love… I love… I love you.” Mr. Darcy, Pride and Prejudice (2005)

“Do, or do not. There is no “try”.

– Yoda

“Just because someone stumbles and loses their path, doesn’t mean they’re lost forever.”

–Professor X

“Sometimes it is the people who no one imagines anything of who do the things that no one can imagine.”

–Alan Turing

“When a defining moment comes along, you can do one of two things. Define the moment, or let the moment define you.”

–Roy McAvoy

“Get off my plane!” Air Force One, the President

Okay, those are mine. Let’s see what some of the other authors in this challenge have to say: L&SR

An Interview with Aurora Brightwell via Louise Wise

I had the distinct pleasure recently to sit down with author Louse Wise as she interviewed Aurora Brightwell from my recent release WOKE.

Below is a link to that interview. I think you’ll get to know a great deal about this WOKE Sleeping Beauty.

Cheers!

read the interview, here: Interview

Waking up each day is a gift….

On her 21st birthday, someone slipped a potent drug combination into socialite Aurora Brightwell’s champagne putting her in a coma for the next ten years. It’s been a long road back, and it’s time to reclaim the life she lost and find out exactly what happened on that fateful night.

Financier Kincade Enright has his own reason for helping Aurora discover who poisoned her, but for the time being he’s keeping that – and his true identity – to himself. What he can’t keep hidden though, are his growing feelings for the one-time paparazzi darling and party-girl.

When this prince of finance joins forces with the former sleeping beauty, nothing can stop them from finding the answers they seek…or prevent the powerful emotions developing between them as they search for the truth.

#FML

I’m not going to spell out those initials because most people know what they mean. But I will tell you why I’ve titled this piece this way.

Last week I went to give blood. Since it’s the time of Covid and I no longer am employed as a nurse, I’ve wanted to do SOMETHING to help and giving blood is always a good idea, anyway. During this crisis/pandemic, though, it is more needed than ever since so many people are staying home and the ones who aren’t are not donating.

So. I’ve given blood for years and have never had a problem and didn’t anticipate one on this day. Armed with my Kindle, mask, and water bottle, in I went to the donation center at my appointed time.

I’d already filled out the prescreening questions ( 80 of them!) at home via the online link, so I just needed to have my vital signs taken, my blood tested for donate-ability ( not a real word but you know what I mean!) and then I had to be hooked up to the blood letting apparatus.

Easy peasy.

In preparation for the blood draw I always overload on green leafy vegetables for a week before hand – I eat spinach every day as it is, but the week before I double the amount and add in all kinds of goodies like kale ( ugh!) and pomegranate, all high in vitamin K levels, which enrich the blood.

Well, I must have really overloaded myself this time and gotten my blood good and primed. Why, you ask? Let me ‘esplain.

A typical blood draw takes between 15 and 25 minutes. Mine always average about 25.

This one took 5 minutes.

Seriously.

I filled that bag up as fast as I’d ever done before.

If you’re a medico you know what’s coming based just on that fact.

When the tech came to check on me, she said, “Wow. You’re a fast draw-er.” Then she took a look at my face and before you could say “are you okay,” she had me in Trendelenburg position ( head lowered below heart level, feet elevated at least 12 inches above it) and two other techs doused me with ice cold wet rags on my head and around my neck and wrists.

Yup. I was on my way to passing out big time. How did she know? I can only imagine how pale my skin had gone but I do know I was sweating like a puttana in a confessional. My top was saturated, in fact. Those little black dots that signal something is going on were scattered across my vision and this unbelievable wave of nausea engulfed me so badly that I couldn’t speak. If you’ve ever passed out you know that feeling because it’s like no other. Your hearing starts to echo, your vision tunnels in, the tips of your fingers and toes start to tingle and you can hear your heart beating in your head.

After about 15 minutes of hanging upside like a bat, I was righted once again, the blood letting apparatus was removed and the tech did everything she had to do to make sure the draw was complete before removing the needle and bandaging me up with the instructions to take it easy for the rest of the afternoon.

Wise words.

The moral of this little confession, kids? Even though I had a not so great experience, donating blood is one thing you can do to make the world a better place. During the horrible time we find ourselves in right now, we all need to feel like we are doing something useful. Donating blood truly does save a life, and if you can save someone’s life, well, I don’t know about you, but that just makes my day.

I can donate blood again in 8 weeks and plan on doing so.

Maybe next time I won’t eat so much kale, though.

Please consider giving the gift of life. to find out more about blood donation, click here: American Red Cross

Cover reveal for MARASCHINO MARRIAGE PACT from Tamela Miles #OneScoopOrTwo #WRPbks

I’ve got another great book cover reveal today from the much-loved One Scoop or Two Series from Wild Rose Press.

My talented WRP sistah, Tamela Miles’ addition to the series is the MARASCHINO MARRIAGE PACT and this cover, peeps, is hot hot hot!

Get a gander at it:

I’m thinking this book is going on the TBR pile immediately!!!

Here’s a little about it…

Blurb:

Mikayla DiAngelis has spent the past two years traveling the world and avoiding the demands of her overbearing warlock father. A confusing kiss from her former bodyguard is yet another reason for her to stay two steps ahead on the run.

Warlock bodyguard Austin Luca will stop at nothing to bring Mikayla home. His loyalty belongs to her family, but his heart belongs to her, even though he has ties that bind him to his own family responsibilities.

Their encounter was inevitable, and Mikayla is soon caught up in Austin’s passion and the world she vowed to leave behind. Will surrendering to her former protector cost her the freedom she needs?

Excerpt:

“You know better than to use your magick in public, Mikayla. What if I was some ordinary human passerby?”

Mikayla froze midmotion. That deep, amused drawl had been with her since she was a child. She slowly turned around, scowling. “I knew I shouldn’t have come back here for the summer. Am I that obvious, Austin?”

The tall, leanly muscled man with straight dark hair and piercing chocolate-brown eyes shrugged, a small smile playing on his lips. “I lost track of you last year in Rome. Kudos for managing to give me the slip, considering I taught you every trick you know. I bet on your sentimentality about this place bringing you back.” He gestured at the skimpy black sundress she wore. “You’re looking well.”

She nodded. “Thank you. You haven’t changed. You never do. Why can’t every warlock age as gracefully as you do?” Sighing heavily, she placed her hands on her hips. “If you tell me again to come home, I’m hopping off this pier.”

His face shuttered. “I have news about your family, Mikayla. This time, it’s serious.”

#TeaserThursday A little something from BAKED WITH LOVE

While BAKED WITH LOVE, my book 3 installment to the MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN series is with my editor for a final round, here’s a little something about Maureen O’Dowd and her motivation for keeping silent on her love for Lucas I want to share. Secrets run deep in this family, and Maureen holds the biggest one close to the vest.

“Robert wants to come with us tomorrow. I mean, if you’re still willing to go shopping.” Lucas said when I came back. “When I told him about you helping me pick out a tux I realized he didn’t have any dress clothes with him. I want to get him something appropriate to wear to Cathy’s wedding. Okay with you? Can you spare him? I don’t want to leave you shorthanded.”

I grinned over at the boy in question. “I think the inn will survive without the both of us for a few hours, don’t you.”

One corner of his lips lifted. A tiny milk mustache lined his upper lip and he was so adorable I wanted to hug him. I loved this boy as much as if he were my own.

My heart pinged as I thought for the first time what it would be like if he were. Or if I had one of my own children to love and cherish. It was a dream I hadn’t allowed myself in several years.

Since Eileen’s diagnosis and subsequent death, I’d tossed out all thoughts of having my own family. The reason, to my mind, was a valid one. As twins we shared everything, the most important of which was our DNA. Eileen’s cancer had been rare, but as her genetic clone, such as it were, the fear the same cancer was somewhere looming about in me waiting to break free was always on my mind.

After Eileen’s diagnosis Cathy and Colleen had been tested to see if they carried the same rare genetic trait for the breast cancer she’d been afflicted with. Thankfully, they were both clear of it. I’d told them, when asked, I’d been tested too, which was a bold-faced lie, because I hadn’t.

The reason why not was easy: I was terrified of the results.

I knew in my head I should get tested to alleviate the worry not knowing caused. I even suspected that dread was the basis for all my sleepless nights. But the fear the test would confirm I was actually a carrier of the gene was so overpowering, every time I made an appointment to get tested, I canceled it.

By not knowing for certain whether or not I was afflicted I was able to convince myself all was well. By getting tested and possibly confirming the diagnosis, I was committing myself to a death sentence.

I’d argued with myself time after time if the disease were going to rear its head, it would have done so already, since everything else in our lives had coincided. We’d gotten our first tooth within days of one another; taken our first steps the same morning. We liked and disliked most of the same foods and each of us had an allergy to pineapple. My period had started three hours after Eileen’s. I’d been born four minutes after her, but my life had run along the same course as hers. Why wouldn’t the cancer do the same if it were, in fact, part of me? Eileen had been dead three years, and if the cancer were going to develop, conventional wisdom stated it would have by now.

And even knowing that, I still didn’t have the courage to be tested.

So many nights I’d stood in my kitchen, trying to bake away the anxiety. It was one of the main reasons I’d never told Lucas how I felt about him. It wasn’t fair to either of us for me to confess my love. I couldn’t start a romantic relationship with him, no matter how much I wanted to, for fear it would be ruined with a cancer potentiality.

The logical portion of my brain called me an idiot more times than I could remember, but I was leading with my heart here, and making most of my decisions based on emotions and not logic. I didn’t feel it was fair to Lucas or any man to face a lover’s illness and death. It was the same reason I’d opted out of ever having children. It wasn’t right to leave them without a mother.

So I’d kept my feelings to myself, content with having him in my life as a friend. Well, maybe content wasn’t the correct word. Satisfied didn’t seem appropriate, either, when I thought about it.

No cover or release date yet, but you know I’ll put them up as soon as I have them!

Here’s the mock-up cover I use when I’m writing to keep me in the mood:

As I’ve said before – my skillset is more words than graphics ( hee hee)

#LASReviews #bloggingchallenge 8.12.2020

Some of the topics in this blog challenge are so easy for me to write, this one no exception. WHAT I WANTED TO DO WHEN I GREW UP vs WHAT I DO.

When I was a lonely, solitary, and quirky kid growing up in Staten Island, I wanted to do 2 things when I grew up: write stories and be a Nurse.

Luckily, I became both.

As a nursing student, and then a Registered Nurse, I had several articles on Nursing care and topics published in trade magazines and newspapers. Topics ranging from Nurse Preceptor programs, to feeding issues for Alzheimer patients, even the importance of keeping sexually active into our golden years were topics I covered and was thrilled to see in print.

The desire to write more than non-fiction, though, burned through me, so I also wrote short stories, many of which were published in literature magazines.

To be able to combine the two things I’d always loved was simply wonderful.

As a child I never had lofty aspirations. No desire to be a prima ballerina, the first woman President, or fly to Mars. I simply wanted to care for sick people and write stories to entertain them.

And I do.

Let’s see what some of the other bloggers in this challenge have to say: L&SR

ALWAYS, ALMOND FUDGE, a new #OneScooporTwo novella from #author Charlotte O’Shay releases today.

I love day’s like this. I get to shout out about one of my favorite books of the year, one of my favorite authors, and a dear writing pal!!
Charlotte O’Shay, one of my ubertalented Wild Rose Press sistahs, has a new book releasing today, titled ALWAYS, ALMOND FUDGE. It’s part of the wonderful One Scoop or Two series from WRP and I was honored to read the book prior to publication. You can see my review at the end of this post, but here’s a hint: I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! I’m gonna give it over to Charlotte now so she can tell you a bit about this wonderful story.

Charlotte….take it away.

Hi Peggy!

I’m thrilled to visit you.

Thanks for letting me shout-out about my just released novella, Always, Almond Fudge, part of The Wild Rose Press’ One Scoop or Two series.

Here’s what people have asked me about the story.

Isn’t this out of your usual genre?

Absolutely. I’ve only written contemporary romance so far. This story is a 20th century historical starting in 1941. (Can you believe we are twenty years into a new century already?)

It’s also a sweet romance. I typically write steamier stories.

Why write historical?

I want to stretch myself as a writer and historical romance is a challenge. Language, lifestyle, dress, and the drama of the WW2 era— I had to get myself into the proper head and research to get details and the atmosphere right.

How does this fit into the One Scoop or Two series?

Summertime (in the northern hemisphere), seaside, and ice cream are what link all of the stories in this series. When I thought about those words my immediate vision was of a sweet, in name and deed, romance that starts on the eve of America’s entry into World War Two.

What inspired the characters of Merry and Anthony?

My parents. Like Merry and Anthony, there’s an age gap between them. My father had to ask my mom’s employer if he could ask her on a date. (She had a summer job as a waitress in a resort.) He was very much like the character of Anthony— a city kid, a stellar natural athlete, whether baseball, swimming, horseback riding, ice skating, you name it. He loved to sing and cook, too! Just a happy go lucky guy who always told us when he met our mom for the first time, “I fell like a ton of bricks.”

Always, Almond Fudge

Blurb

On a lengthy car ride to their annual seaside vacation, a mother recounts the true story of a sweet family tradition.

It’s the summer of 1941 in the seaside town of Langford, Rhode Island, and seventeen-year-old Meredith Franklin works as a server at Seymore’s Ice Cream Shoppe. When aspiring baseball player Anthony Fanelli strolls into the ice cream shop, his teasing banter leads to romantic sparks and dreams of forever love.
Their whirlwind courtship comes to an abrupt halt on December 7, 1941, when America enters World War Two, forcing the couple to put their future on hold.

Decades later, a treasure trove of wartime letters details the romance of Merry and Anthony and the sacrifices of a generation.

Excerpt:

But jeepers, if anything could sidetrack a girl it would be Anthony Fanelli. If anyone could turn a determined woman’s head in the direction of romance it was this handsome fellow who’d smiled big and placed his hand over his heart when he saw her sitting in the stands. Merry had blushed to the roots of her hair, hair that was pinned to the side in deference to the ninety-something degree heat. She’d worn a navy skirt and a simple white polo—Rockets colors. A few of the Langford folk had looked her way at Anthony’s public display but Merry simply smiled and tilted her chin in response. It didn’t matter what stories they might carry back to her parents. Nothing would ever mar the memory of the first time she saw Anthony play.
