This is always one of my favorite writing prompts – FAVORITE BOOK OR MOVIE QUOTES ( and why!)

I’m gonna do both. Books, first

From NEW YORK TO DALLAS by J.D.Robb.

“Want to finish, give my report. Is my face messed up? I hate when that happens. Not like I’m pretty or anything, but–”

“You are the most beautiful woman ever born,” Roarke said from the doorway.

“You should be kissed and often, and by someone who knows how.”

Gone With The Wind by Margaret Mitchell

“In vain I have struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.”

Pride And Prejudice by Jane Austen

“I can’t sleep, I can’t eat, I can’t do anything but think about him. At night I dream of him, all day I wait to see him, and when I do see him my heart turns over and I think I will faint with desire.”

The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory

“Tis better to have loved and lost, Than never to have loved at all.”

In Memoriam A.H.H. by Alfred Lord Tennyson

And now the movies

“After all… I’m just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her.” Anna Scott, Notting Hill (1999)

“You should be kissed and often, and by someone who knows how.” Rhett Butler, Gone With the Wind (1939)

“You have bewitched me, body and soul, and I love… I love… I love you.” Mr. Darcy, Pride and Prejudice (2005)

“Do, or do not. There is no “try”.

– Yoda

“Just because someone stumbles and loses their path, doesn’t mean they’re lost forever.”

–Professor X

“Sometimes it is the people who no one imagines anything of who do the things that no one can imagine.”

–Alan Turing

“When a defining moment comes along, you can do one of two things. Define the moment, or let the moment define you.”

–Roy McAvoy

“Get off my plane!” Air Force One, the President

Okay, those are mine. Let’s see what some of the other authors in this challenge have to say: L&SR

#LongandShortReviews #WednesdayBloggingChallenge 6.24.2020

I’ve been M.I.A. for a few weeks because….life. But today’s topic got me back in the blogging challenge saddle.

My “go to” book or movie for a pick-me-up. Easy peasy and I’m gonna do both!

Book first:

I’ve mentioned this book dozens of times on this blog – and others – but whenever I can’t find something new and intriguing to read, I pull out my copy of NEW YORK TO DALLAS by J.D. Robb from my book case. It is without a doubt my favorite Robb addition of the In Death Series to date, even though they are all excellent reads. This one, though, is so packed with emotion, suspense, and love, plus the way Robb really gets to the meaning of marriage, that it’s worth a re-read every now and again. The last three pages are my absolute favorite in the book and even though I’ve read the book numerous times, I always cry when I re-read them.

When I need a movie pick-me-up there is no better feel good, make me laugh until I cry movie than MOONSTRUCK starring Cher ( in her Academy Award winning role.)

The reason I love this movie isn’t only because it’s just the funniest, tenderest, loveliest movie about family that I’ve ever seen. I have a more personal reason for watching it when I need an emotional lift.

The movie was released in 1987, the same year I got married. Directly after saying our “I’do’s,” hubby and I relocated to Wisconsin for my husband’s job. He’d been there already for 6 months, coming back home so we could get married. And while he’d already gotten acclimated to the town and the people, even making new friends, I knew no one.

Not a soul.

I had no job, we lived in a tiny basement apartment and hubby was gone all day long at work. It was December/January 1987-88 and where we lived, on Lake Superior, the daily temps were in the negative 20’s. Every day. All day. So I couldn’t really go out and do stuff. I was lonely, missed my old life and was inching towards depression when it should have been the happiest time in my life.

One day I decided to get out of the house and go to the movies. The local mall-theater had Tuesday matinees so I figured at least I’d get dressed, get out for a few hours, and maybe, just maybe, feel better. Once I saw MOONSTRUCK was playing I purchased my ticket, got my tub’o’gross movie popcorn and settled into my seat.

I was the only one in the theater. Seems everyone had a life in Superior except yours truly.

Two hours later I left the theater with my spirits lifted, a huge smile on my face, and feeling so much better. Watching the antics of Loretta Castarini ( Cher) and her crazy Italian family made me feel like I’d been teleported back to NYC and my own crazy family. That was a turning point in my new life.

If you need a lift either emotionally, spiritually, or even physically, this is the movie to see. I just may watch it again tonight!

Now, let’s see what some of the other authors in this challenge read or watch to make them feel better. L&SR

I would be remiss if I didn’t do a little self promo here. I’ve got a new book releasing on July 1 titled WOKE. It’s an updated version of the Sleeping Beauty fairytale, but in my book, Beauty doesn’t wait for love’s first kiss to bring her back to the land of the living!!

Waking up each day is a gift….

On her 21st birthday, someone slipped a potent drug combination into socialite Aurora Brightwell’s champagne putting her in a coma for the next ten years. It’s been a long road back, and it’s time to reclaim the life she lost and find out exactly what happened on that fateful night.

Financier Kincade Enright has his own reason for helping Aurora discover who poisoned her, but for the time being he’s keeping that – and his true identity – to himself. What he can’t keep hidden though, are his growing feelings for the one-time paparazzi darling and party-girl.

When this prince of finance joins forces with the former sleeping beauty, nothing can stop them from finding the answers they seek…or prevent the powerful emotions developing between them as they search for the truth.

Until next week, peeps ~Peg

So, this was a topic I couldn’t figure out a post for: A Villain that I wish could be redeemed and why.

In all honesty, I love reading about villains because they are able to say and do everything that I can’t. Hee hee. So I don’t want any of them redeemed. I want them to stay bad, angry, mean, and vindictive. We need the villain’s mean ying to oppose the hero’s heroic yang. It’s what makes people want to read and root for the hero/heroine.

I’ve got nothing to offer this week’s blog readers, so let’s see what some of the other writers think: L&SR

This week’s blogging challenge is titled “MY CELEBRITY CRUSHES.”

Oh, baby! I’ve got a few, that’s for sure.

So, let’s remember one thing: I’m not 20, 40 or even 50 years old anymore. Some of my crushes may have the icky feel to younger folks.

Too bad.

So, here are my  hall passes if I should ever meet them ( Heehee) I put them in alphabetical order because I love them all equally.

DENZEL WASHINGTON. I mean…come on!!! Is there a woman with a pulse in the world who isn’t in love with this fabulous man??

IDRIS ELBA I don’t care what anyone says, this man should be James Bond. Now and forever.

James Spader. I’ve been a fan since Sex, Lies, and Video and Stargate! As Red Reddington? Perfection.

Matthew Goode. Yowza!! He’s starred in movies about Witches, played a Race car driver, and an Earl. And he stars in my dreams. Often.

Matthew MacFayden. I’m gonna get nailed for saying this, but he truly was my favorite Darcy!!! So much angst. So much longing. Le sigh.

Paul Hollywood. Most recognizable baker in the world. He can frost my buns any time. Those eyes…………

Let’s see who some of the other authors in this challenge are crushing on: L&SR

And don’t forget: I’ve got a new Romantic Suspense out, titled A PRIDE OF BROTHERS: RICK. Have you read it yet? You should ( hee hee)

And IT’S A TRUST THING is now at 99cents forever on Amazon!!! Good Price for a good Book – but I’m biased.

Until next time, peeps ~ Peg

#longandShortReviews #bloggingchallenge 1.29.2020

Happy Wednesday, all. Today’s Long and Short Reviews blogging challenge is one I can get behind: Best book/movie/TVcouples.

I’ve got one of each! hee hee

BEST BOOK COUPLE:
Hands down ( for me) it’s Eve Dallas and Roarke from the IN DEATH Series by JD Robb ( Nora Robert’s doppelganger). Both are in their 30’s and have had horrible, dark pasts. Once they find each other in the first In Death book, neither ever looks away. Their heat level together is off the charts, but though the sex is great between them, what I love more than anything is the way Roarke cares for Eve. He makes sure she eats when the responsibilities of her job make her forget to. He makes sure she sleeps and when nightmares attack her he’s right there to hold her through them. He helps her when she needs help whether she asks for it or not, and he truly is a touchstone in her life. I could read about these two and their escapades for the rest of my life!

BEST TV COUPLE:

Now, realize  when I tell you who I think make the best TV couple that I am not 20. Not even 40 or 50. My favorite TV couple of all time is Lucy and Rick Ricardo. Why? Again, I go with the love first. Despite being a ditzy, non-thinking, always up for anything wife who gets into trouble more than she is out of it, Ricky LOVES Lucy with all his heart. That love shows in every single episode of their groundbreaking television show. Real life couldn’t compete with tvlife, though, and these two divorced. But by all accounts they loved one another until the day they died.

BEST MOVIE COUPLE:

Again, not 20, 40 or even 50, kids! My favorite movie couple of all time is Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn in every single movie they did together in the 1930’s and 40’s when romcoms were king and movie stars really were stars and not celebrities! From Bringing up Baby to the Philadelphia Story ( a personal fav) these two epitomized the zany, wacky, and convoluted scenarios they where thrown into on screen. Laugh out loud funny, wildly chic, and always heartwarming, these two could do no wrong on the big screen.

Let’s see what some of the other authors in this challenge have to say. L&SR

And because self promotion is king of the hill in publishing nowadays, don’t forget I’ve got two new books out, one of them the first in a new series.

TODAY, TOMORROW, ALWAYS ( A Match Made in Heaven, bk 2)

Lawyer Cathleen O’Dowd wants to break free from her boring image. Widowed young, she’s toed the good-girl line but now wants a little fun and laughter in her days…and nights. Living in a small town, though, she can’t do anything that would tarnish her professional reputation. Mac Frayne’s tragic past has turned him into a sullen loner. In town to write a book on the city’s founder, his plan is to get it done, then head home to his solitary existence. When circumstances force them to work together, their opposing personalities clash, but the sexual attraction between them is palpable. Can a simple affair with an end date be just the thing to brighten up their lives?

and A PRIDE OF BROTHERS: RICK

Elite bodyguard and P.I. Rick Bannerman’s job is to protect. He doesn’t get emotional with his clients, but when a woman from his past is threatened, his next job becomes personal.
Family lawyer Abigail Laine is the target of a client’s vengeful husband, but refuses Rick’s offer of protection. He walked away from her four years ago, and she swore to forget him.
Now her reluctance to accept his help could cost Abby her life.

Until next Wednesday, peeps ~ Peg

A visit with #author Karilyn Bentley, and a little exciting news to share!

When I first started writing I knew I’d meet people/writers on whose shoulders I would stand. Writers who paved the way, took risks, and basically helped me be a better writer in the long run. Today’s guest is one of those people/writers. Wild Rose sistah Karilyn Bentley has visited with me several times before when she’s had one of her newest, fabulous books released. Today’s visit is extra special because she’s got some amazeballs news for us all.

Karilyn…..

Hi Peggy! Thank you for letting me drop by for a visit!

I’m happy to announce the release of The Shadowheart Curse! This book is special to me for several reasons, the main one being that it will be turned into a movie. You can even live stream the making of the movie! Pretty cool, eh? I was asked to write the book based off an idea the movie director had. He wanted to turn ten books into movies and I was asked to write one of those books. Super exciting! And nerve wracking. I had to write a story with an already decided upon locale, character goals, and basic plotline. The story is set in Italy, a place I’ve never been to, and the whole story takes place at an abandoned mill (totally creepy!). Needless to say, research was needed. Most of my research centered on abandoned mills like the one in the story. It started off as a way to try to see what the inside of an ancient mill looked like (the pictures the director gave me of where the movie will be filmed only showed the outside), but quickly turned into a fascinating side trail. There is a place in Sorrento, Italy called Valley of the Mills where a bunch of mills were abandoned and the land took over. The buildings are creepy, yet cool, to look at with moss and trees covering their stones. Check it out: http://desertedplaces.blogspot.com/2013/12/the-abandoned-mill-in-sorrento-italy.html

You’ll have to watch the movie to see the pictures of the mill in The Shadowheart Curse. <evil laugh!>

The movie comes out 2/14/20 and you can go here (https://deadlyten.com) and sign up to know when the live streaming event occurs.

Read on for the book blurb and excerpt. And don’t forget to go to https://deadlyten.com and sign up to know when the movie is live streamed!

BLURB:

Escaping New York after a client’s untimely death, medium Adrianna Sinclair flees to her family property in Italy. All she wants is to avoid ghosts, but an attractive one tempts her in ways she never knew possible.  Luca Fausto has been trapped on the Romani property for over a century for a crime he didn’t commit.  Adrianna may be the answer to breaking the curse that keeps him bound.  Standing in their way is a demonic spirit’s plan for revenge.  Will they prevail or will Luca be cursed to the shadows forever?

EXCERPT:

Lights drew her attention to the opposite wing of the mill, where a man stood staring at her window. At her. Breath caught in her lungs as she froze.

But only for a brief moment until she realized it wasn’t a man, at least not a living one. Her breath escaped on a whoosh of relief. Intuition whispered the man was the spirit who’d watched her last night.

The one from her dream.

Shadows clung to his body, ghostly fingers releasing as he stepped into the dim slash of moonlight. Lights flickered from behind him, like the dying gasps of sputtering candles. Dressed in a white shirt with an old-fashioned high collar, sleeves rolled halfway up his forearms, and dark trousers, he reminded her of a working man in a World War I photograph. As if he had removed his coat and tie and rolled up his sleeves to get to work.

Except the men in those photos didn’t sport the wide-eyed, happy look of this man. Ghost. Whatever. Yeah, he wasn’t the only one surprised. She’d sworn never to see a ghost again, yet there stood a ghost, captured by her gaze. The man was hot, in an old-fashioned way. At least he didn’t sport a handle-bar moustache.

He gestured to her, his hand beckoning in a “come here” motion.

She squeezed the bridge of her nose. Was she actually thinking of heading his way? Judging by the way her feet pointed toward the door, she’d already decided. Dammit. She might not want to see a ghost or speak to a spirit, but past experience told her if she ignored them, they ramped up the annoying factor.

How bad could it be to talk to an attractive spirit?

A little about Karilyn :

Karilyn Bentley’s love of reading stories and preference for sitting in front of a computer at home instead of in a cube, drove her to pen her own works, blending fantasy and romance mixed with a touch of funny.

Her paranormal romance novella, Werewolves in London, placed in the Got Wolf contest and started her writing career as an author of sexy heroes and lush fantasy worlds.

Karilyn lives in Colorado with her own hunky hero, two crazy dogs, aka The Kraken and Sir Barks-A-Lot, and a handful of colorful saltwater fish.

#Long&ShortReviews #Wednesdaybloggingchallenge 5.22.19

So todays’ L&SR Blog challenge topic is : Books I love that became film or tv shows.

When I started thinking about the movies and TV shows I’ve loved that were adapted from books I realized, in many cases, I’d never read the books they were adapted from. Since time is very precious to me right now, I’m not going to go back and read them, so when all is said and done, these are the shows/movies I’ve adored from book to screen. It’s a little pathetic how old this list truly is!

Television first:

Bones –

the tv show starting Emily Deschenel as the fictional Temperance Brennan from the Kathy Reichs’ books is a goodie. While the show changed the central character a bit, it stayed true to the core of the Reich books.

Anne of Green Gables – the older version starring Megan Fellows is simply perfection. She embodied Anne Shirley.

The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries.

okay I’m gonna admit this and not even care if people laugh at me. I was a HUGE Parker Stevenson fan when I was a kid. The fact he was partnered with my favorite Cassidy boy ( Sorry, David!), Shaun, made life even sweeter on Sunday nights when The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries came on. Pamela Sue Martin did a fairly good interpretation of ND, but once she made a soft corn porn movie I could never see her as the virginal sleuth again!

The Thorn Birds.

Richard Chamberlain brought Ralph de Bricassart to full fledged light. The TV adaption was a long one, spanning weeks and weeks, but it was so worth the watch.

Gone with the Wind.

I don’t really need to say anything about this one. History has spoken about how beloved the movie and book are and how true to the book the movie stayed.

And Then There Were None.

So many versions of this classic Agatha Christie have been made, but I love the original 1945 adaption. For atmosphere and character development, this version stayed the truest to the book.

The Hours.

Nicole Kidman’s prosthetic proboscis aside, the movie adaptation had the same haunting reveal of the story and the connection of the three women as in the book, and stayed true without making the drama any less rampant.

The Joy Luck Club.

Again, an older book and movie, but the characters in the movie were perfect representations of the lyrical, haunting ones in the book.

So, those are my favorite books to screen adaptation. They are a bit dated, to be sure. Let’s see if any of the other writers in this challenge have a more up-to-date list. L&SR

#L&SR #WednesdayBlogging Challenge. At The Movies!

I have to admit this: I don’t go to the movies as much as I used to. There are dozens of reasons, but the main ones are I like watching a movie from the comfort of my own, silent home in my own comfortable reclining chair; I hate movie food; and the prices per movie ( 15.00 where I live) are – simply put – ridiculous and not worth the expense. I wasn’t always this way. Up until about 10 years ago I went to the movie theater every weekend. But that’s a topic for another day and blog.

Today’s prompt – Favorite Movies of all time and why – is a cinemaholics dream and nightmare rolled into one. How is it possible to choose from the thousands of flicks I’ve adored and watched over and over again? Well, I’ll try to whittle it down.

You may assume, because I write romance novels for a living, my favorite genre of movie would be RomComs or tearjerkers. Your assumption would be wrong. So wrong. I’m an action girl and I love a good shoot-em-up-bang-bang movie! I also  love a toe-tapping singalong musical and I’m a sucker for the fast paced Preston Sturgis-type black and white movies of the 1930’s and early 1040’s.

First, shoot-em-up-bang-bang favorites:

PREDATOR

– made when the former governor of California was at his action packed height. The reason I lovelovelove this movie is because it has one of the best lines ever written. Jesse – the Body – Ventura is shot and is bleeding. One of team says “you’re bleeding, man.” Jesse’s comeback? He spits and says, “I ain’t got time to bleed.”

DIE HARD ( the first movie) the movie that made Bruce Willis a household name in the action field.

The reason this movie is so near and dear to me is because it features one of my favorite tropes: the everyday man caught in an extraordinary circumstance. Some may argue that Willis’s character, John McClane, wasn’t an everyman, but a cop who knew how to fight his way out of a hairy situation. While that may be true, in reality, McClane was just a guy trying to get home for Christmas, not a cop who stumbled upon a nefarious plot that made his exwife a hostage. Alan Rickman was at his absolute villain best in this movie!

THE EQUALIZER

– while not an everyman, ex-CIA operative Denzel Washington is no longer in the business. What’s that old saying? You can take the man out of the CIA but you can’t take the CIA out of the man? This movies’s a favorite because DENZEL!!!

Second favorite genre of movies: Musicals

HIGH SOCIETY

the musical version of the 1939 movie The Philadelphia Story which is one of my all time fav RomComs. (Remember those 1930-s fast paced ROMCOMS in black and white I said I loved?) HIGH SOCETY stars Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Grace Kelly, Louis Armstrong and Celeste Holm in a mad romp about a divorced couple, the heroines’ attempt to remarry, her father’s infidelity, an ex husband still in love, and the Newport Jazz festival all mixed together in one weekend of flirty fun and shenanigans. The reason this is one of my favorites? Well, show don’t tell applies to blogging, too, so gave a gander at this: HIGH SOCIETY

Next, we’ve got HolidayMovies and there really is only one that does it for me:
LOVE ACTUALLY.

Told from multiple viewpoints that all converge in the ending, this movie is simply put, perfect in every way. The main reason it’s one of my favorites is easy to see in this clip: To me you are perfect

ROBIN HOOD, PRINCE OF THIEVES

– don’t judge me for this one because I’ve heard a gazillion times why this movie is so bad since Kevin Coster is the star. But it has one of the best lines ever written in a movie as a declaration of love and that’s the reason it’s one of my favorites. When Robin rescues Marion from the Sheriff ( Another fabulous role for Alan Rickman) she tells him she can’t believe he came back for her. His response? “I would die for you.” OOoooooooh. I die from delight every time I hear that line!

MY COUSIN VINNY

While I don’t like Joe Pesce as a rule, this was a role he was born to play. And it also starred Fred Gwynne  (Herman Munster!) and Marisa Tomei, who is the reason this is one of my fav movies. The scene where her biological clock is ticking is pure comedic genius! Tick Tock

Maybe Long and Short should have another Wednesday blog challenge so I can add more of my favs! 7 is a bit much for now but doesn’t begin to cover them all!!!!

And because this is a blog challenge, clear here to see the favorite movies of the other writers participating. L&SR Wednesday Blog Challenge.

Tune in next week to see what the prompt. And if you’re looking for me, here I am:
