Life with a puppy….

So, 9 weeks ago we did something we’d been talking about for a while, but hadn’t put any action behind: we adopted a puppy.

I know…trust me.

It’s been 21 years since we last had a dog in this house. My daughter was 10 when our beloved Lab, Ella, passed away. I asked for a puppy every year after that for Christmas/birthday/anniversary, but hubby never thought the time was right.

Then, one day he did.

Maple Leaf came to us in September, just 2 days shy of her 8 week birthday.

To say it was an adjustment having a puppy in the house after 21 years and now at the age of 60, would not be wrong. But it was also a huge blessing.

She turned 17 weeks old this past Saturday and life has been…interesting, to say the least these past 2.5 months– for us and her!

She’s experienced her first Fall

and snowfall….

both within 2 days of each other.

She’s been to the Vet for her shots and medical care…

and she loves going for rides in my car:

She’s a good guard dog and always on patrol in case murderers and squirrels try to invade our house…

She puts anything in reach in her mouth – including straws…

She finds the craziest places to sleep, including the shower stall…

And she’s a bit of a camera diva…

Her newest thing is bringing us “presents” when she’s out for a walk. The other night my husband took her out just before bedtime and since it was dark, didn’t realize she had something in her mouth when they came back in. We were both ridiculously surprised at the mouse carcass she managed to find…

All in all, our hearts are full and Maple is a permanent fixture in our lives and hearts.

  1. She is adorable. Congratulations on the new addition to your family. The picture of her sleeping in the shower reminds me of my Marco – he used to sleep in the bathtub. Laughing. Our pups have their quirks, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. Enjoy!

I think if Maple could get up into the bathtub by herself, she would have slept there too….that’s coming, i think, as her legs get longer.

I am so in love with Maple. Our cats won’t let us have a dog. I keep hoping one of them will put “a puppy” on their Christmas list.

  7. How adorable. What a cutie. Our dog Mystic has slept in the shower stall since she was 10 weeks old. She has a perfectly good dog bed, but she’s not interested. LOL

  9. As an owner of a two year old Yellow Lab, I’m a bit Lab biased (lol) but Maple Leaf is absolutely adorable! You can tell by her paws, she’s going to be a big girl when she grows up. Enjoy your beautiful fur baby!

  10. Maple Leaf is adorable! Our son has a twelve week old black Lab named Elliot. Never had a Lab before but he seems like he will be a really great dog. Congratulations on adopting after so long. It will be a good trip!

Our black lab, Ella, passed away 21 years ago and was simply the best dog. Labs are amazing. Elliot will bring endless hours of love and joy your way – once the puppy phase is over, heehee
