So, 9 weeks ago we did something we’d been talking about for a while, but hadn’t put any action behind: we adopted a puppy.
I know…trust me.
It’s been 21 years since we last had a dog in this house. My daughter was 10 when our beloved Lab, Ella, passed away. I asked for a puppy every year after that for Christmas/birthday/anniversary, but hubby never thought the time was right.
Then, one day he did.
Maple Leaf came to us in September, just 2 days shy of her 8 week birthday.
To say it was an adjustment having a puppy in the house after 21 years and now at the age of 60, would not be wrong. But it was also a huge blessing.
She turned 17 weeks old this past Saturday and life has been…interesting, to say the least these past 2.5 months– for us and her!
She’s experienced her first Fall
and snowfall….
both within 2 days of each other.
She’s been to the Vet for her shots and medical care…
and she loves going for rides in my car:
She’s a good guard dog and always on patrol in case murderers and squirrels try to invade our house…
She puts anything in reach in her mouth – including straws…
She finds the craziest places to sleep, including the shower stall…
And she’s a bit of a camera diva…
Her newest thing is bringing us “presents” when she’s out for a walk. The other night my husband took her out just before bedtime and since it was dark, didn’t realize she had something in her mouth when they came back in. We were both ridiculously surprised at the mouse carcass she managed to find…
All in all, our hearts are full and Maple is a permanent fixture in our lives and hearts.
