#newBookrelease from Julie Howard #OneScooporTwoseries

Today I’ve got a great treat for you. Fellow Wild Rose and One Scoop or Two sistah JULIE HOWARD is here, talking about her addition to the fun series, Sea-Salt Lavender for Aphrodite.

Don’t you just love the cover!!??

I’m going to turn it over to Julie to tell you all about it..Julie...

Thank you, Peggy, for hosting me and my latest release on your blog today. I’m very excited to see this new book come out. As you know, it’s part of the One Scoop or Two series published by The Wild Rose Press just in time for summer reading.

I like to think of these books as “beach reads,” although I’m not sure how many of us will have an opportunity to go to the beach this year. Regardless, we can bring the beach to us. Isn’t that the beauty of reading books – they take us to new and different or favorite places in our imaginations. Reading this series is one way of going to the beach without getting sand in every crevice.

The central coast of California is one of my favorite places to go. It’s usually less crowded, has interesting rock formations, and has great tidal pool areas. I’ve never been one to lay on a beach. I love to stroll right at water’s edge and let the waves lap at my ankles. I watch for whales and seals and those little sandpiper birds that dart about and peck at tiny morsels at the shoreline. I set this book in a fictional central coast town and, all the time I was writing, my imagination gave me a mini-vacation to this favorite place of mine.

I’m a little sorry to be done with the story, but now more than ever am looking forward to the day when I can truly visit the central coast in person. I can almost taste the salty air.

Here’s more about this new release:

Sea-Salt Lavender for Aphrodite

A case of murder with sweet complications

Rosella Rivers enjoys the perfect life, loving her new ice cream food truck business featuring exotic flavors. But her beach view parking space is not so lovable when she finds an acquaintance stabbed to death in the boardwalk bathroom.

Detective Mark Pruitt knows murder is bad for small-town Olympus Bay. He must find the suspect before he strikes again. When he first sets eyes on Rosella, the only witness, he is smitten. However, there’s no time for romance when danger lurks.

Together he and the lovely ice cream maker must discover the killer before he turns his sight on Rosella.

Excerpt:

The echo of a drip-drip-drip resonated from within. Rosella glanced around, wishing a man would pass by, someone she could send inside on her behalf. On this side of the structure, though, the beachfront was hidden from view and the building backed by sand dunes. Unless someone needed to use the facilities, they wouldn’t approach.

“Mick?”

A distant chime from the town clock made her heart sink. Ten a.m. Opening time. She had to get back to her truck. A fresh round of anxious yips sounded. She
scooted to the corner of the building and peeked toward
her truck. Aphrodite stood at attention, straining at the
leash. The dog barked twice at spotting her and renewed efforts to break free of the tether.

She returned to the doorway. “Mick, I’m just going
to step inside since I’m a little bit worried, just to make sure you’re okay. Let me know if I shouldn’t come in.” No response sounded. “All right, coming in.”

The odor hit her first. Heavy, sweet, sickening. Then her eyes registered the scene. Mick lay face down in the middle of the tile floor, a steady stream of deep red blood winding its way toward a drain.

Celebrate #audiobooksmonth #ILoveaudiobooks

In honor of AUDIOBOOKS MONTH, all these titles from my catalog in the Wild Rose Press are available in audio!

The San Valentinos:

3 Wishes  Nicole Blessing (Narrator)

Valentine’s Day is chocolatier Chloe San Valentino’s favorite day of the year. Not only is it the busiest day in her candy shop, Caramelle de Chloe, but it’s also her birthday.

Chloe’s got a birthday wish list for the perfect man she pulls out every year: he’d fall in love with her in a heartbeat, he’d be someone who cares about people, and he’d have one blue eye and one green eye, just like her.

So far, Chloe’s fantasy man hasn’t materialized, despite the matchmaking efforts of her big, close-knit Italian family. But this year for her big 30th birthday, she just might get her three wishes.

A Kiss Under the Christmas Lights Anna Marie Peloso (Narrator),

With Christmas just a few weeks away, Gia San Valentino, the baby in her large, loud, and loving Italian family, yearns for a life and home of her own with a husband and bambini she can love and spoil. The single scene doesn’t interest her, and the men her well-meaning family introduce her to aren’t exactly the happily-ever-after kind.

Tim Santini believes he’s finally found the woman for him, but Gia will take some convincing she’s that girl. A misunderstanding has her thinking he’s something he’s not.

Can a kiss stolen under the Christmas lights persuade her to spend the rest of her life with him?

Christmas and Cannolis  Anna Marie Peloso (Narrator)

With Christmas season in full swing, baker Regina San Valentino is up to her elbows in cake batter and cookie dough. Between running her own business, filling her bursting holiday order book, and managing her crazy Italian family, she’s got no time to relax, no room for more custom cake orders, and no desire to find love. A failed marriage and a personal tragedy have convinced her she’s better off alone. Then a handsome stranger enters her bakery begging for help. Regina can’t find it in her heart to refuse him.

Connor Gilhooly is in a bind. He needs a specialty cake for an upcoming fundraiser and puts himself – and his company’s reputation – in Regina’s capable hands. What he doesn’t plan on is falling for a woman with heartbreak in her eyes or dealing with a wise-guy father and a disapproving family.

Can Regina lay her past to rest and trust the man who’s awoken her heart?

The Deerbourne Inn: HOPE’S DREAM ( Giselle Lumas (Narrator),

Hope Kildaire gave up her dream of becoming a nurse practitioner when a car accident killed her father and left her mother an invalid. Working two jobs and caring for her mother leaves the 27-year-old with no time for fun or relationships. When a law firm representing her paternal grandparents sends her several letters, Hope ignores them. She despises the family who disowned her father and wants nothing to do with them.

Lawyer Tyler Coleman’s job is simply to obtain Hope’s signature on a legal document. Getting it is harder than planned, though, when an unexpected attraction blossoms between them. If Ty is honest with Hope about why he’s in Willow Springs, he’ll fulfill his assignment but may risk hurting her.

The opportunity to have everything she’s ever desired is at Hope’s fingertips. Will her dream come true at the expense of Tyler’s love?

The MacQuire Women series: The Voices of Angels  Lili Dubuque (Narrator)

Love is the last thing Carly Lennox is looking for when she sets out on her new book tour. The independent, widowed author is content with a life spent writing and raising her daughter. When newscaster Mike Woodard suggests they work on a television magazine profile based on her book, Carly’s thrilled but guarded. His obvious desire to turn their relationship into something other than just a working one is more than she bargained for.

Mike Woodard is ambitious, and not only in his chosen profession. He wants Carly, maybe more than he’s ever wanted anything or anyone else. As he tells her, he’s a patient man. But the more they’re together, Mike realizes it isn’t simply desire beating within him.

Carly Lennox is the missing piece in his life. Getting her to accept it – and him – may just be the toughest assignment he’s ever taken.

This is from my upcoming release ( no date yet) for BAKED WITH LOVE, book 3 in my Match Made in Heaven Series. This one tells the love story of inn owner Maureen and the Chief of Police Lucas Alexander:

“Oh. My. God. Honestly, Maureen, you should have your own cooking show. This is insane.”

“Everything she makes is insane,” a male voice said from the doorway.

It was a voice I knew well, since its owner was a frequent inhabitant of my dreams. Husky and deep, with a dash of just woken gravel, it could cajole a lover into seduction or cut off a criminal at the knees.

Fortunately, I’d never been the later. But I’d fantasized about being the former for years.

“Truth,” Colleen said around a mouthful of salad. “Why are you here?” she asked Heaven’s Chief of Police, Lucas Alexander before I could. “Somebody call a cop?”

Lucas flicked his moss green, heavily hooded eyes from my sister to me, one corner of his mouth tilting up. I actually had to contract my pelvic floor muscles whenever he looked at me so I wouldn’t melt to the floor in a pool of want. My ninety-three year old grandmother, Nanny Fee, calls this girding your loins. As far as a descriptive phrase for the maneuver, it’s a good one.

“You got a minute?” he asked me.

The book has just been contracted and is in the editing phase right now. I do hope to have it out in 2020. This is a mock up of the cover – not the ral thing!!

You can read books 1 and 2 here:

DEARLY BELOVED

TODAY, TOMORROW, ALWAYS

Enjoy your week.

Until next time ~ Peg

#LongandShortReviews #bloggingchallenge 5.27.2020

Book set in my city or state is today’s topic and it’s a goodie! I live in rural New Hampshire and the state boasts many wonderful authors in their own right who use the beauty and majesty of the state in their works, myself included ( more on that, later). These authors include, but are not limited to,

Jodi Picoult: Change of Heart, Handle with Care, The Nineteen Minutes

John Irving: A prayer for Owen Meany, The Hotel New Hampshire,

John Knowles: A Separate Peace

Anita Shreve: The Weight of Water

Thorton Wilder: Our Town

Barbara Delinsky: The Carpenter’s lady

And I would be remiss if I didn’t include myself in this group. I have an entire series, A MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN,

(book 3 – Baked with Love coming Winter 2020) *** this is not the real cover, just a mock-up I made!

set in Heaven, NH, a fiction town that has many eery similarities to the town I live in and my newest book, VANILLA WITH A TWIST set in the Seacoast region of New Hampshire.

So, you can see, New Hampshire is, has been, and will continue to be, a very popular state to set a book in.

One personal aside, the original JUMANJI movie, the one with Robin Williams, was filmed in my home town of Keene, NH.

I was lucky enough to actually watch the filming of this scene in our Central Square. Cool, no?

Let’s see where some of the other authors in this blog challenge live, and the books set in their town or state: L&SR

Until next time, peeps ~ Peg

A visit with #author Colleen L. Donnelly and LETTERS AND LIES

Another one of my fabulous and talented Wild Rose Press sistahs is visiting today. Give a big hand to Colleen L. Donnelly.

Colleen’s got a new book out titled LETTERS AND LIES and she graciously agreed to tell us a little about it today.

Take it away, Colleen…

Sometimes we just need candy, and in this case, candy with a heart. “Letters and Lies” was written for those moments when you want to smile more than think, laugh more than worry, and clap a hand over your heart at my heroine’s antics which could just as easily have been your own. Follow near-spinster Louise Archer as she heads west to find the man who jilted her, armed with what she believed to be a foolproof plan to marry him in time to save the family business and her reputation.

“Letters and Lies”

Blurb:

Louise Archer boards a westbound train in St. Louis to find the Kansas homesteader who wooed and proposed to her by correspondence, then jilted her by telegram – Don’t come, I can’t marry you. Giving a false name to hide her humiliation, her lie backfires when a marshal interferes and offers her his seat.

Marshal Everett McCloud intends to verify the woman coming to marry his homesteading friend is suitable. At the St. Louis train station, his plan detours when he offers his seat to a captivating woman whose name thankfully isn’t Louise Archer.

Everett’s plans thwart hers, until he begins to resemble the man she came west to find, and she the woman meant to marry his friend.

Excerpt:

“He wrote and changed your plans? Why didn’t you tell me? You know I love hearing his letters.”

Everyone loved hearing his letters. Or at least they’d pretended to. I glanced at my friends, especially the one who’d first suggested I correspond with her husband’s homesteading friend in Kansas who was ready to look for a wife. She dabbed at her eyes with a handkerchief while she flicked the fingers of her other hand in a weak wave. I dredged my soul in search of a smile. The man she’d introduced me to truly had penned everything I’d ever wanted in a husband, months of letters which convinced Mama Jim was my open door. Letters I’d foolishly carted from family to friend to blather every word like a desperate spinster. Drat.

“He didn’t send his change of plans in a letter, Mama. He sent them in a telegram.” Don’t come, I can’t marry you. The only words I never shared.

“Well I imagine your Jim has a surprise for you and didn’t have time to send a letter before you left for Crooked Creek. How thoughtful to wire you instead.”

Thoughtful…I felt poisoned and Mama would too if she ever found out Jim had shut my open door. Which she wouldn’t, since as soon as I got out there and found him, I’d wedge it back open again.

#SundaySnippet 5.24.2020

Well, since I had a new book release this week, I’d be remiss if I didn’t take a snippet from that, wouldn’t I?  ( Hee hee)

From Vanilla with a Twist…Tandy’s just a little suspicious of why Deacon is so ready and willing to help her. She thinks there must be something motivating him and it can’t just be free ice cream….

“Why are you doing this?” she asked. “You’re here on vacation, not to do manual labor. You’re supposed to be resting and rehabbing. Plus, you don’t even know me. My own family doesn’t give me presents, especially not expensive ones like top-of-the- line tools.”

With his head angled and his arms crossed over his chest, he studied her much the way she suspected he would a motor he was attempting to fix: thoughtful glaze in his eyes, the skin above them wrinkled in curiosity.

“First of all, tinkering and working on mechanical problems is fun for me. I’ve told you that. As strange as it may sound, trying to figure out how to fix something….calms me. And vacations are supposed to be calming, right?”

She nodded. “What’s second?”
“What?”
“You said, first of all. So what’s second of all?”
The bottoms of his ears turned flaming red, and for a hot second she thought she’d embarrassed him. Nothing she’d said, though, should have, so his visceral reaction was confusing.

Confusing and utterly charming. He had to be pushing forty, thirty-five at the least, and he was blushing. Actually blushing.

He ran a hand under his collar and cupped the back of his neck as he had earlier, a sign she was coming to recognize as a personal tic. A grin, part sheepish and to her mind wildly appealing, shot across his face.

“I guess I really don’t have a second reason.” He dipped his head a bit and regarded her with a side eye.

The air surrounding them felt charged, and if she touched him, even just a finger on his arm, Tandy knew a spark would ignite. The electricity flowing between them hummed like a neon sign.
