Photo of the day, day 32 – Welcome to February!

For the past week, I have been staying with my daughter, her hubby, and this darling angel to help them out. They’ve started back to work, ending their maternity leave, and we all know how difficult a transition that is. I haven’t put any pictures of my grandson up on social media because I want to honor my daughter and son-in-law’s privacy. After all, they didn’t ask to be in the public eye. That’s my decision. But since you can’t see his beautiful face, my daughter thought this was a nice compromise.

This darling boy, just 4 months old, has had a bit of struggle so far. Low birth weight, plus he came into the world early, six different tongue ties making breastfeeding impossible, multiple allergies causing many gastric mishaps, even a bout with Covid. Despite it all, he is thriving and my heart is so full that sometimes when I look at him it wants to explode from joy. The minute I leave them to go home I cry. The entire way.

I never knew being a grandparent could be so deliciously wonderful.

I was lucky enough to be snowbound with my daughter and grandson during the weekend snowmageddon and I spent it wisely – Loving on my little grandbaby and reading a good book while exercising.

It was actually nice not to have to go out for anything. I had everything I needed in one place: daughter, grandson, a book ( several, actually) and some exercise equipment.

Hee hee. How did you make put during the blizzard??

Photo of the day, day 30

In 2019, before the world changed forever, we all took a family trip to London for 10 days. While walking back from dinner one night along Tower Bridge, I spotted a little man painting watercolors of the scenery and selling his art. I purchased this and another to depict our time in the great city for 5 pounds each. Well worth the money!

I only put the top of this trophy up as a pic because the trophy itself is 3.5 feet tall and would have taken over the entire picture.

This is Erin’s trophy from when she won the New Hampshire state spelling bee when she was in middle school. Our entire family traveled to Washington, DC that year to watch her compete in the national Scripps SPelling Bee. While she didn’t win, it was a top five day for our proud family and for me!

As you can see, today’s photo is actually a duo. But I wanted to show you this fabulous mug from both the front and back sides.

My sister-in-law, Kathleen, gifted this to me recently and it is so perfect for me, it’s almost scary!! On the front you see a gal reading a book with a chocolate lab sitting at her heels. That’s me and Maple Leaf. On the reverse side: Just a girl who loves books and dogs.

Truth in advertising, kids!

For the past week I have been at my daughter’s home helping her and her hubby take care of their baby as they transition back to the work environment after their maternity leave ends. And yes, I did say their maternity leave. They were both granted 16 weeks post-delivery, which is great, but in my humble opinion, it should be a year each! BUt that is a post for business owners and the government to have,

I have been having me some fabulous grandma time!

This handstitched quilt is draped over the baby’s crib and denotes the theme of small woodland animals he has in his room.

This is my view every day when I wake up because his crib is across from my bed.

LADY WITH A BOOK

This oil painting hangs in my daughter’s apartment. It was painted by my mother-in-law ( her grandma Peggy) eons ago but it really shows all the talent my MIL possessed.

She was an amazing human being. Raised 6 kids, then when they were all done with their college educations, went back herself and earned a BA in Fine Arts.

I wish everyone was blessed to have a woman in their lives like her.

Another oldie but a goodie I found recently. The day says October 1961 so I was 17 months old. In just one more month I will fall out the window of our Brooklyn apartment, thereby leading to my lifetime of scars and fears. I think this is the last picture ever taken of me where my face was straight and my eyes were even.

Le sigh….

But the picture is so joyous – literally, the calm before THE FALL – I had to share.

Another sign of the times – but times past! I found this little gem the other day. The baby is me, the two people my Godparents at my Christening in June 1960. You can see the difference between then and now in the Catholic tradition – my Godmother has her head covered. Back then it was mandatory for women to cover their heads in church and for men to remove their caps/hats.

I’m told I never made a sound when the ice-cold Holy water was poured over me. I think this is where my love of cold showers originated, LOL!
