National LIbrary Week 2025

I’ve mentioned many times that I basically grew up in a public library.

From the age of 7/8, my mother could no longer afford an after-school babysitter, so I became a latchkey kid. For anyone who lived through the 60s and 70s, IYKYK.

But going home to an empty apartment every day after school wasn’t any fun, and sometimes, it was even scary because the apartment building we lived in wasn’t in the best neighborhood. So I tried to find a way to be safe and occupied until the time was close for my mother to arrive home each night.

That safe place for me was the local library, only four blocks from my apartment.

School would let out at 3pm every day and I’d make the eight block trek to the library, head to the children’s section, do my homework in the quiet of the place, and then when I was finished, I’d choose a book or two and start reading.

After about a week, the library ladies noticed me. And in a good way. Back then, the local librarians were all women in their 40s and 50s, many of whom were mothers or grandmothers, most with degrees in Library Science back in the day when the Dewey Decimal system ruled. They would quiz me on why I was at the library and not out with friends playing, or home. I explained the situation about my mom working in the city and that I didn’t like going home to an empty apartment. I never felt a moment’s shame or a scintilla of nerves at speaking to these women about private family matters. These days, kids shouldn’t because there are predators around every corner. But back then, I simply knew these women wouldn’t harm me in any way.

And they didn’t.

What they did was take me under their wings, foster my love of reading, and give me a safe, welcoming place to be me. I still consider a Library one of my favorite places to go. Whenever I travel, I make a point of visiting local or even famous libraries in the area. Just walking into a building that houses thousands of works of literature makes my heart sing.

So, this week is National Library Week. I have a few questions for you…

~do you have a library card?

~do you participate in library book sales?

~do you know that the current administration is slashing federal funds to libraries ( including everything else they don’t deem worthy) and that every library exists mostly by those funds?

~do you donate your used books to libraries?

~simply…do you support your local library in any way you can?

My follow-up to every one of those questions is….You should!

Celebrate National LIbrary Week with me.

(I could have made this post uber political and talked about banned books, the way librarians and libraries are being threatened in real time by magaholes and extreme right wing crazies, but I wanted it to be a positive piece on an institution that should be valued, exalted, and saved by any means possible.)

#tuesdaytease 1.7.25

So, since THE VOICES OF ANGELS re-released yesterday, I figured I’d give you a little teaser into the story if you haven’t already read it.

Mike stared up at the house, liking the white clapboard Vic- torian design, and the solid, sturdy way it stared right back down at him as if saying, I’ve been here longer than you and seen things in life of which you can only dream.

Secure. Able to withstand whatever was thrown at it. A house rooted in strength, built on stability, roofed with resilience and balance.

Much like the woman he found himself thinking of non-stop.

After Carly left the gallery the night before, he’d wanted to run after her and explain about Cassandra. The timing and the situation, though, prevented him. Cassandra was capable of causing an emotional display, which would have ruined Serena MacQuire’s event. Mike had witnessed numerous of her public tantrums during their few months together and was loathe to be embroiled in another one.

No, speaking privately with Carly was the better option all around.

Every time Carly’s hurt and confused face came to mind, Mike swore, fingers itching to hit something. What must she think, making his desire so blatant for her, while Cas- sandra gave everyone the impression they were still lovers? What woman wouldn’t be upset and angry if she believed the man pursuing her was involved with another? Of course, she wouldn’t answer his call. Why should she? To her eyes, his intentions must appear suspect and despicable.

He wished Cassandra had never shown up at the opening. She possessed an amazing ability to be where she could do the most damage, almost as if she’d planned it.

He took a deep breath, tried to put it out of his head, and concentrated on the reason he was standing outside this magnificent home.

Using the antique brass knocker in the shape of a pineapple on the door, he announced himself. Serena’s face broke into a wicked grin when she answered.

“I knew you’d come.”

The tension left him immediately. His smile was as fast and filled with good-natured humor as hers. “Yeah, I imagine you did.”

Available in Print, Kindle, and in KU!

NOT a #TBT post 8.15.24

In lieu of my typical throwback Thursday post today, I want to make sure everyone knows about this Saturday’s event at the Bigelow Free Library in Clinton, MA.

Some of my favorite authors, writers, and friends will be offering their books for sale during ROMANCE WEEKEND, so come down and see/support us.

Libraries are the backbone of a free democracy and when so many destructive factions are trying to ban books, we need to support libraries as much as we can to ensure free speech and access to ideas remains allowable.

See you on Saturday!

TOMORROW is the day of…RETRIBUTION

Book launches either sneak up on me or they drag out forever, just waiting for release day.

With Retribution, it felt like it was going to take forever, and now, tomorrow is book release day and I can’t believe i haven’t done more to promote the launch.

Some day, I will have a PR team to help with all this.

Some day, I will have the time to do an effective launch, one that truly sells more than 5 or ten books.

Some day, the 1000 book preorder goal I keep setting myself up for ( and failing, horribly!! lol) will actually manifest.

Doesn’t look like tomorrow is any of those above days, but it is release day, and that just never gets old in my book!

Read it in print of Kindle or KU here: AMAZON

Order an autographed print copy directly from me, here: RETRIBUTION

Add it to your GOODREADS Want to read list, here: GOODREADS

And as always, kids, happy reading. ~Peg

Weekend plans…

This is the first weekend I’ve actually been at home in over a month. RWA, visiting my daughter, a friend’s daughter’s wedding, family vacay, book signings, have all drawn me away from my home every weekend since the beginning of july.

Next weekend I have another book event which I mention below. But for now, I’ve got nowhere to go or be for the next 48 hours.

I’m laughing right now because I almost feel a little lost…what should I do with my free time?

I could always clean the house – give it a good scrubbing from top to bottom but…no.

I could go shopping. SInce I’ve lost all my weight I need new clothes because my old ones are hanging on me. The thought of being around people – hordes of people – isn’t doing it for me, emotionally, so…no.

I could tackle the projects I’ve been putting off lately due to travel and book deadlines, like the scrapbook I want to make for my daughter about her engagement, wedding, and first baby’s birth. I’ve got all the pieces, I just need to sit down and put it together. Alas, the thought of doing that isn’t sparking joy in my right at this moment.

I could write. I’ve got a book I need to finish by the end of the month and then get to edits. It’s due to release on 11.1 and I am not even half way thru the first draft. But I’ve been carving out writing time all week and have added 10,000k words since last weekend, so I feel I deserve a break.

The weather is supposed to be in the 80s here today, with little humidity. I’ll take Maple on her 5 miler this morning and then I’m going to…

Read. I’m gonna hang out on my favorite room in my house – my four seasons room – and just…read.

Bliss.

Heaven.

Relaxing.

Soul-energizing.

Just read.

Whew. Glad that decision is made. It was exhausting figuring out what to do, LOL!

The changing face of how we read…

Finally a blog post title I like! hee hee.

I write. Two little words that mean so much more than they can ever convey.

I write books. Three words that define me.

My books are available in many formats, not only print. That sentence is monumental. Why? Because I can reach so many more people/book/story lovers who aren’t able to read a standard print book.

My books are available in digital format – on phones, kindles, nooks, and tablets.

My books are available in audio form to be listened to and enjoyed for those people who can no longer read the written word.

My books area available to purchase, to loan ( in libraries) and for free in a subscription program called KU ( Kindle Unlimited.)

So many choices that just make my heart go zing!

For those who like to listen to books while they drive to work, fly, or simply relax and close their eyes, in audio ( on Audible) my titles include:

For those who subscribe to Kindle Unlimited the following titles are available:

and my upcoming book It’s A Trust Thing will also be available in KU.

And all of my books are available in digital format or Print on Demand ( POD) here: Peggy Jaeger on :

Amazon//   Barnes and Noble//  Kobo //  i-books//   Google Play  //   Walmart

When I was a kid, print books were the only way to satisfy my story love. Then came books on tape, and now, the digital revolution.

It’s an amazing time to be a book lover, a story teller, and a romance fan, isn’t it??

Happy reading/listening/watching.

Until next time ~ Peg

OH, and please don’t forget – one of my WRP books, FIRST IMPRESSIONS is on sale right now in the digital format in   Amazon /// Nook /// Ibooks  for just 99 cents.

#LongandShortReviews #WednesdayBloggingChallenge 5.8.19

Topic choices like this one just make my heart go zing!

Today, the writing prompt is  Books I want Youth to discover. So…do you have a couple of hours? Hee hee. Just kidding…not.

I pared my choices down because I really could talk about this subject for a while. The word YOUTH can, to me, mean any age range, so I’m going to cover a few here to be inclusive. The choices I’m laying out are all older books, from the last century even, and not what I would consider popular these days with kids. Which is a shame, because each of these books speaks to universal themes inherent in all children (and adults!). They are all written in language easy to read and understand, and each of these choices is in itself a part of my own youth and growth experience.

In no order, I wish kids (youth) would read these wonderful tales:

So, of course, I start with the book I think should be in every child’s home and read to them by their parents or even by themeselves, over and over until the message is ingrained in their DNA.

The Little Engine that Could .

Originally published in, I believe, 1941, this is the best story I’ve ever seen about self motivation, and believing in yourself. The confidence that  little engine had in himself is the kind of confidence I wish every single child possessed. I’m 58 years old and I still think of this book and its message when my confidence starts to fail.

Anne of Green Gables

In fact, the entire Lucy Maude Montgomery collection about Anne Shirley. There are many themes explored in these books, but the ones I feel are still topical today are adoption, the plight of homeless and parentless children, acceptance in society when you are different, and the beauty of each person being unique.

Are you there God? It’s me, Margaret.

Maybe it’s because my real name is so similar to the title character. Maybe it’s because the story of 12 year old Margaret is one that mirrored my own life. Maybe it’s because Margaret’s feelings of not fitting in – and of wanting to, desperately – and wanting to be liked were exactly the same emotions and feelings I had at the age of 12. Heck, maybe it’s because she feels the only one who get’s her, who really listens to her is God, just like I did, and still do. Whatever the reason, this book is filled with the universal theme that we all want to loved and appreciated. Plus, there aren’t many books about kids and spirituality that lay out God’s love  so simply  and beautifully.

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn

I grew up in Brooklyn, NY, just like Francie Nolan. My heritage is Irish, just like Francie’s. I knew firsthand the effects of alcoholism in my family, as does Francie. Is it any one wonder I love this book and wish more kids these days were exposed to it? Yes, it takes place in the last century during a time unlike any other we’ve seen in this country. But again, I go for the universal themes and connectability rampant in the book. This was the book that solidified for me that even if you were poor, considered white trash, and shunned by society, you could still find happiness in every day things, and feel love for those closest to you. Education was the ticket out of poverty and strife, and Francie loved to read – just like I did ( and still do!) Reading for was escape, adventure, knowledge, and beauty.  Betty Smith’s words are as timely now as they were when the book was released in 1943.

“From that time on, the world was hers for the reading. She would never be lonely again, never miss the lack of intimate friends. Books became her friends and there was one for every mood. There was poetry for quiet companionship. There was adventure when she tired of quiet hours. There would be love stories when she came into adolescence and when she wanted to feel a closeness to someone she could read a biography. On that day when she first knew she could read, she made a vow to read one book a day as long as she lived.”

Love that message!!!

So, those are just 4 books I wish more kids read these days. Let’s see what the other authors in this blog challenge have to say. L&SR
