February 14th is almost here. Treat yourself to a little love!

When I was a kid the only Valentine’s Day cards I ever received were the ones kids were forced to bring to school and distribute to everyone in the class so no one would be left out.

Pathetic, I know.

When I got older and my school mates weren’t required to pass around cards to everyone in the class…I went home empty handed every Feb. 14th.

Still pathetic, I know!

I’m old now, married for 100+ years (!) and I still don’t get Valentine’s Day cards cuz. hubby believes the day – like so many other “HOLIDAYS” was invented by Hallmark to push cards. He’s probably not wrong, hee hee.

But I don’t care about those cards anymore because I’ve got the one thing Valentine’s day typifies: everlasting love with my soulmate, so I consider that a win!

This Valentine’s day, I’m  partnering with a bunch of other romance writers in a fabulous  MEGA VALENTINE’S DAY ROMANCE GIVEAWAY

ENTER FOR YOUR CHANCE TO WIN! Click on this link for a chance: rafflecopter

Grand prize of High Def Kindle Fire and more than fifty romance novels, including award winners and New York Times and USA Today Best Sellers! All you have to do is follow me and other romance authors on BookBub. The more profiles you like, the more times you’re entered.

Amazon Gift Cards for two lucky runner ups!

Also, a few years ago I wrote a little story for the CANDY HEARTS ROMANCE series from Wild Rose Press titled 3 WISHES in which a girl approaching her 30th birthday longs for an everlasting kind of love in her life. That little story has been one of my best sellers over the years and since Feb.14 is this week, I thought I’d give it a little promo here for those who haven’t yet read it.

WISHES – A CANDY HEARTS ROMANCE

Do wishes have expiration dates?  Valentine’s Day is chocolatier Chloe San Valentino’s favorite day of the year. Not only is it the busiest day in her candy shop, Caramelle de Chloe, but it’s also her birthday. Chloe’s got a birthday wish list for the perfect man she pulls out every year: he’d fall in love with her in a heartbeat, he’d be someone who cares about people, and he’d have one blue eye and one green eye, just like her. So far, Chloe’s fantasy man hasn’t materialized, despite the matchmaking efforts of her big, close-knit Italian family. But this year for her big 3-0 birthday, she just might get her wish!

Available here:

Amazon //  Nook //i-books // Kobo // Books-a-Million // Google  play

And if the person you’re looking for a gift for is an audiobook lover, well, I’ve got you covered because 3 WISHES is also available in audio here: Audible // i-tunes

#SundaySnippet 2.09.2020

So this week I’m going off the rails for my Sunday Snippet. Instead of giving you a little sumthin’ sumthin’ about a romance book I’m working on, I’m giving you a few lines from a short story that’s out in the Australia Burns anthology from the Wild Rose Press.

There are 3 books in the anthology series and my story THE TUESDAY NIGHT MEETING is in the first one.

This is a short story I wrote years ago when I was really into the female empowerment movement. I still am, I just go about it in a different way now, heehee. And if that doesn’t whet your appetite for the story, nothing else I say will!

Here ya go; enjoy:

“Bob tries his best, Miz Kane. Honest he does,” Cora said, her cheeks heating. “He means well, but…well…he…”

As she trailed off, Wisteria rose and hobbled over to Cora’s side. Kathryn Anne graciously gave up her chair for the oldest member and founder of the club. Wisteria settled in and took Cora’s work-weary hand in her own gnarled one. “My dear, sometimes we can be confronted by truths which are hard to acknowledge. I know Molly didn’t mean to upset you. We would never insult a guest, especially one we want to join our organization.”

Blinking back tears, Cora replied, “That’s all right, Miz Plowright. I know no harm was intended. My Bob, well, he’s just high-strung’s all.”

“High-strung,” Molly repeated and crossed her arms over her ample bosom. “Better strung up, I say.”

Cora’s trembling returned. “Now, Miz Kane, I can understand why you feel that way and all, with the problems you’ve had with Bob. I apologize for the trouble he’s caused you.”

“No need for you to apologize, Cora,” Molly said. She peered through her thick eyeglasses and continued. “The fault’s not yours. You’re a lot like your mother, God rest her soul. Forgiving and apologizing all the time for things beyond her.”

“Bob means well, honest he does,” Cora said, her eyes pleading at the women in the room. “It’s, well, he can’t seem to find his way.”

“Is that any reason for him to hit you and the children, Cora?” Mavis asked, her sonorous voice booming accusingly throughout the room.

Cora’s eyes widened, bulging against the sockets. Before she could deny the charge, Mavis silenced her with a wave of her hand.

“That bruise over your left cheek is mostly faded now. It’s been three weeks since you were seen in the emergency room over at County General. Kitty Hawkins was the night supervisor on duty the evening you were brought in. You told some cock-and-bull tale about falling down the basement steps. The story was as phony as the blood on your dress was real. You don’t have a basement. The sheriff hauled Bob in for the night and charged him with disturbing the peace and public drunkenness. I can only imagine what small, insignificant thing you did that he thought you deserved a beating for.”

The little of Cora’s remaining will dissolved under the older woman’s gaze. A flood of tears poured out of her all at once, and a sob rocked her chest.

Kathryn Anne provided a lace handkerchief, as Wisteria patted Cora’s arm.

“It’s all right, darlin’. You’re among friends here.”

Cora swiped at her eyes. “I’m…I’m sorry for the blubbering, ladies. Truly I am. It’s just been so hard. With Bob scraping from one job to the next…never enough money for food. He drinks to try and forget his troubles, his failures. But I swear on my mother’s soul, Miz Carruthers, he’s never laid a hand on the children. He wouldn’t dare.”

“We believe you, my dear,” Wisteria said. Taking a deep breath, she added, “I think now might be a good time to tell you about our organization, about why we asked you here tonight.” She looked up at the current president of the club.

“Cora,” Mavis aid, capturing the entire attention of the room, “do you know anything about our group?”

She shook her head and swiped at her still running nose. “Not much, ma’am. I know you give out scholarships to worthy high school girls for college. And you support the poor, especially at the holidays. I’ve seen write-ups in the paper about the good things y’all have done. But aside from those, I don’t know much else. Excepting,” she said, “ that you’re all widows.”

The members of the club collectively smiled at her.

“That’s why I thought it strange to be asked here tonight. I’m not a widow.”

“No, darlin’, you’re not,” Wisteria said, smiling. “Not yet.”

Cora gaped, openmouthed, at the old woman.

Intrigued? If so, order your copy here and know that all the proceeds are going to the Australian Red Cross to help aid victims of the Wild Fires.

Looking for me? I’m usually here:Tweet Me//Read Me// Visit Me//Picture Me//Pin Me//Friend Me// Triber// Book Me // Watch me

And remember:And IT’S A TRUST THING is now at 99cents forever on Amazon!!! Good Price for a good Book – but I’m biased.

Roses for Australia; AUSTRALIA BURNS #Anthology from #TheWildRosePress

I’ve been a proud member of the WILD ROSE PRESS  Rose Garden for 5 years but never have I been so PROUD to be published by them than I am right now. Below is letter from our Editors In Chief, Rhonda Penders and RJ Armstrong about a project the WRP has recently undertaken, AUSTRALIA BURNS. It’s a 3 volume anthology of short stories in various genres from Wild Rose Authors who volunteered to have their stories published to benefit the charitable organizations of Australia and help them with the costs of rebuilding this beautiful country. Neither the authors nor the publisher are assuming any royalties from the sale of these books, all proceeds going to Australia. All the editing and graphic design was conducted by the editors of WRP on a volunteer basis. This truly was a labor of love.

Please read this letter then go to the WRP website and purchase the books. I’ve provided the links below

My short story THE TUESDAY NIGHT MEETING is in volume 1.

Authors have always been known to help one another but when our own Australian author, Stephen King, asked his fellow authors what could be done to possibly help his beloved Australia during the horrendous wildfires, The Wild Rose Press authors stepped up in a big way.

The result of that initial conversation, less than a month ago, is a 3 Volume Anthology.  Over 40 authors donated a short story.  The Wild Rose Press’ editors, artists and production staff donated their time and talents to edit these stories and compile them into an anthology.

Volume 1 and 2 have been released and are available to purchase on our website in print form.

https://www.thewildrosepress.com/product-category/writers-shop-cat/special-release-paperbacks

The first volume in ebook can be found on Amazon as well as any other distributor where you purchase ebooks.

https://www.amazon.com/Australia-Burns-Show-Some-Love-ebook/dp/B0848W2HQT/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=Australia+Burns&qid=1580208647&sr=8-3

All proceeds from these 3 anthologies will go to help support the recovery of Australia.  We asked Stephen to decide where the profits would go to do the best work and after much research he continued to come back to The Red Cross.  We can identify where we want the donation to go and we will have it go directly to the efforts of The Red Cross in helping with the recovery effort in Australia.

Stephen gave us an update today and if you want to read more about what is happening directly from someone who is there you can read more here:

Recent rains have helped enormously, still there are fires, but not to the same extent as there were, and the focus now is more on recovery and rebuilding. To that end there are advertising campaigns now to stop what’s called the second wave disaster and that is people staying away from tourist areas and business who rely on travelers and visitors to survive. Most of our tourist destinations are unaffected, yet people think the whole country is gone, which of course isn’t true. The problem of course is that if people stop visiting, businesses will go broke, making the overall recovery much harder. With the rains, re-growth has already begun and some burnt out areas have grasses and shrubs recovering already.

Then of course there is the wildlife, and those organizations such as the RSPCA, and others are doing remarkable work rescuing animals and rehousing them. A lot of our native trees are Eucalyptus, and with millions of trees gone, Koalas only eat those leaves, so regrowth and resettlement is going on in huge numbers to save a cuddly species from extinctions in the wild. Kangaroos will bounce back, and in time, the feeling is most other animals will to, but the key words are – in time. In a lot of cases we hope the burnt trees themselves will regrow as they have evolved to grow after bushfires. I’m told with heavy rains in recent days some are showing green growth, which is encouraging.

All charities are ‘working their bums off’ but the one who seems to be doing the most is the Red Cross. So in closing, two things.  Firstly – and I know I’ve said it before – my heartfelt thank you to each and every one of you for participating in whatever way you have. Forty eight stories simply is mind-blowing, and the offers for promotion, trailers, editing, cover design, formatting and of course redirecting the money has been so uplifting I can’t even begin to tell you – and for someone who uses words all the time – that’s saying something.

Secondly, if ever you’ve thought about visiting this country, now’s the time. And as Paul Hogan (Crocodile Dundee) once said in some fantastic famous ads in the US and across the world. “Come on down; I’ll throw a shrimp on the barby for you.  – Author Stephen King

Available in paperback through our website – click here  and will be at Nook, iTunes, KOBO, Scribd, and other fine retailers within a few short weeks.

Raising funds for #Australia – The Wild Rose Press Authors Unite…

This is just another reason why I lovelovelove THE WILD ROSE PRESS so very much. The above photo is the cover of a book available now from WRP in response to the wild fires decimating Australia. A group of WRP authors ( 45+ in all) have all pitched in and compiled 3-4 volumes of short stories, WRP is publishing for us as a fundraiser. Every dime earned will got straight to an Australian Charity. The project was the brainchild of WRP author Stephen King, an Aussie  writer who wanted to help do something for his country. WRP stepped up right away.

There will be several volumes released in the next few weeks, but this is the first one and contains a short story written by moi several years ago, plus a host of other authors. This volume contains Women’s Fiction, Mainstream Fiction, Horror, Thriller and Mystery.

If you purchase a book directly from WRP all the proceeds go to charity. If you purchase one from amazon, Jeff Bezos if gonna take his cut no matter what. I think you know the right choice to make.

Here’s the link to order direct from WRP: AUSTRALIA BURNS, Volume 1

Thank you for your support.

Until next time ~ Peg

#Author Donna Simonetta on #writing series Romance…

Recently, I wrote a blog about my favorite one-click authors.   I’ve actually done several, and one name is consistently on that author list: DONNA SIMONETTA, who’s visiting me today.  I “met” Donna through our mutual publisher, the Wild Rose Press , and from the first book of her’s that I read, I was hooked as a reader. I’m so proud to know her and call her a friend, but I’m really blown away by the fact that she calls me one!

Donna’s got a new entry in her RIVERS BEND series that she’s talking about today. I have the book uploaded on my Kindle and I’m starting it tonight!!!! Who wants to bet I’ll be getting even less sleep than I usually do tonight? heehee.

Here’s Donna…

My new release, What Was I Thinking, is the final installment of my Rivers Bend Trilogy. To celebrate, Peggy Jaeger invited me to visit her blog and talk a little about writing a series. Since Peggy has written so many series I loveloveLOVE, Will Cook for Love, San Valentino Family, The MacQuire Women, DotComGirls, and A Match Made in Heaven sound familiar? I think I got all of your series, didn’t I, Peg? ; ) My point is––Peggy is a queen of series romance, so having little ole me write about it on her blog feels a little bit like bringing coals to Newcastle. But here goes…

My Rivers Bend books are set in a fictional small town on the Virginia-Maryland border. The river in question is the Potomac, which flows through the town. And the series follows the romantic adventures of the Braden family. Oldest brother Jeff is a former NFL player, and favorite son of the tiny town. He runs the Retreat at Rivers Bend, a corporate retreat facility, and is raising his tween daughter on his own, since her mom passed away when she was just a baby. He’s happily single…or so he thinks! He may just have met his match in newcomer to town, librarian Magda Horvath, a Yankee transplant, who blows into town with her one-eyed shih-tzu rescue dog and turns Jeff’s world upside down. Their story is told in book one of the series, A Sweeter Spot. Which is coming out as an audiobook very soon!

Jeff’s sister Heather is featured in book two in the trilogy––Love is Lovelier. She works for Jeff at the Retreat, and is seriously unhappy with her brother when he hires her first love to work at the Retreat, in a job that should be hers. To be fair, Jeff didn’t know about Heather and Mick’s history. But now that Mick is living in town, old passions flare, and maybe they’ll get a second chance at their first love in Rivers Bend.

What Was I Thinking wraps up the trilogy with youngest brother, Jason Braden. He’s the romantic wild child of the family…never settling down with one woman. But when Lily Davis moves to town to take care of her niece Hadley (Jeff’s daughters’ BFF, and featured in the previous books), sparks fly between Jason and Lily. At first, they are sparks of mutual antagonism, but a wild Vegas fling changed them to sparks of attraction, and maybe by the end of the series, these two opposites will find their happy-ever-after in Rivers Bend.

This little town has begun to feel real to me. I’ve been so immersed in it for the last few years, while I’ve been writing these stories. I can picture the town green, with its’ gazebo on the river, the old brick library where Magda works, and would love to get a cup of coffee at the Nosh Pit, or a slice of pizza at Mancini’s. I’ve been walking its’ streets in my own mind for so long, I’m going to miss it now that the Rivers Bend trilogy is complete. The Braden family, and all the quirky secondary characters who reside in the Bend have become old friends to me. And while I’m proud to have finished the series, and excited for all of you to read the third book in the trilogy, it’s a bittersweet moment for me. I don’t know if I’m ready to leave Rivers Bend yet. Mick’s little brother moved to town, and he’s just crying out for his own HEA, and maybe the next generation of Bradens, oldest sister’s Deidre’s college age twins, will need their stories told too. Never say never.

In the meantime, I’m polishing up an unrelated novel, about ghost hunting brothers in Richmond, VA, which has the potential to become a series too, and I’ve had the idea for a spin-off of the Rivers Bend series nagging at me for a while. It’s set in my current hometown of Baltimore, and features Lily’s best friend Roni, and Heather’s musician friend, Chase. But right now, their story is just a twinkle in my eye.

I hope all of you enjoy visiting Rivers Bend, as much as I enjoyed creating it, and all my old friends in the small town become new friends of yours, as you read the series.

A Vegas fling never leads to love…does it?

Blurb:

A wild Vegas fling isn’t the traditional Thanksgiving celebration, and Lily and Jason have been like oil and water since they met. Blaming their steamy hook-up on too many shots at the bar, they head home.

Back in the real world, Jason wonders if he’s ready to give up his crown as the Playboy King of Rivers Bend to be with just one woman. And Lily has enough on her plate right now without adding Jason Braden to the mix, even if their attraction is crazy-strong.

But life is good at throwing curveballs, and a lot can happen between Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day. Maybe even enough to lead these two polar opposites home to each other in Rivers Bend.

Excerpt:

“I think about a lot of things.”

She felt him stiffen up behind her, and Jason’s tone of voice was defensive. She hadn’t meant to hurt his feelings. “I know you do; I didn’t mean anything by it. We poke at each other”—she shrugged—“it’s kind of our thing.”

His grip on her hand loosened, and then he took control of the dance, by twirling her until her back was pressed to his front, and he began to move sinuously in time to the rhythm. His breath tickled her ear, as he spoke right in it to be heard over the music. “We’ve got a thing, Moonbeam?”

Jason had ditched the tie and suit jacket after the wedding, and his body heat scorched her through his crisp white dress shirt. And man-oh-Maneschewitz, his lean, hard body felt good. Really good. The Marine might be bulked up, but Jason’s body felt like it had been made for hers, which given their mutual antagonism, seemed like proof Fate was enjoying a good laugh at her expense. Against Lily’s better judgment, her body melted into his warmth and began to move with his.

“Sure, we’ve got a thing,” she said over her shoulder, and was irritated to hear a trace of breathlessness in her voice. She cleared her throat and continued, “Like that—you calling me Moonbeam, because you know it bugs me.”

A little about Donna:

Donna Simonetta writes the kind of books she loves to read–contemporary romances with heart, humor, and heat. The kind of books that help you escape the real world for a little while. Writing is Donna’s third career. She toiled in the business world, and when she decided being an Account Executive wasn’t for her went back to school to get her MLS degree. Next, she worked in a school library for many years. But, Donna dreamed of being an author since she was a little girl, and began to squeeze writing into her day. After the publication of her second book, Donna decided to leave the library and become a full-time author. It can be a solitary job, so she loves to connect with her readers–you can find her online Here:

FaceBook // Twitter // Goodreads // Amazon // BookBub // Instagram// Wild Rose Press//

Donna lives in Maryland with her husband, who is her real-life romance hero. They enjoy traveling to visit far-flung family and friends, and spending time on the beach with an umbrella drink and a good book.

Peggy here: for the record – Donna is amazing at series romance, herself, so don’t let her fool ya!!! I’ve reviewed the previous books in her Rivers Bend series and am so looking forward to reading WHAT WHAT I THINKING??

My reviews:
Love is Lovelier

Love Calls You Home

A Sweeter Spot

Happy reading, peeps.

Until next time ~ Peg

A visit with #Wild Rose Press Author TENA STETLER & introducing her new book CHARM ME AGAIN

Since I am a panster, my characters seem to hijack the story at every turn. Just about the time I think I have the reigns of the story—off they go in another direction. It’s frustrating at times, but I so enjoy the experience never knowing what will happen for sure. I seem to write chapters out of order, scenes out of order but in the end, everything seems to fall into place. So far. LOL

Take for instance in CHARM ME AGAIN, I had no idea how Daylan was going to make amends with his sister after their horrendous falling out. But as I listened to him tell his story, involvement with the Scottish ghost and his regrets thing begin to fall into place. Yet when he was told Josie was off limits…well…he couldn’t help himself and chaos reigned. Then along comes Josie, a yoga instructor in Summer’s studio, an innocent with a stalker problem. She was so much more than she seemed at first glance. I had trouble keeping up with her transformation. When I just about thought I had things in hand, I discovered that Josie came from a prestigious family of lawyers and her free spirit got her tossed out of the family.

I hope I’ve given you enough for you to want to take a peek at the book. I know you are going to love it. Especially if paranormal romance sprinkled with mystery is your thing. Living in fantasy is mine, the real world scares me to death. LOL

What’s CHARM ME AGAIN about? I’m glad you asked.

For several months a Scottish Highland Ghost has haunted Daylan, in his personal life, his professional life and at his forge. Yet, being a talented warlock, he is no closer to discovering what the ghost wants or why he chose Daylan. A trip to his estranged sister’s home in Colorado may have unforeseen consequences especially when family history leads him to a shocking discovery.

As his attraction blooms for Josie, a yoga instructor in his sister’s studio, he realizes there may be more to Josie than he can imagine. When an ancient rogue Fae Warrior set on revenge kidnaps her in an attempt to claim her as his own, a devastating curse comes to light.

Daylan’s world spirals out of control as he searches for Josie. Can he break the age old curse to save her and their future, or will she be lost to him forever?

A peek between the pages of CHARM ME AGAIN

She swallowed hard and blinked.

Out of the mist, in full Scottish regalia, a ghost stood, his transparent red and green belted plaid blowing in the breeze.

She shook her head, closed her eyes, scrubbed her hands over her eyes, and blinked them open. “What the hell?” burst from her lips before she could control herself. “It’s some kind of bad dream. Right?” She rubbed her eyes again opening only one this time. “Shit, you’re all still here.” She dropped her arms to her sides and glared at Daylan then Summer. “Someone better tell me what’s going on—right now.” Her hands fisted and unfisted at her sides.

Daylan returned her scathing look. “Later.”

“We meet again Shay.” The ghost said. “What kind of attire are ye wearing?”

“Never mind. Ye are the cause of the problem, Daylan.” The leader glared at the ghost.

“Oh, no—not this time,” the ghost said.

Daylan stood straight. “No way. I’m not taking the blame for this.”

Shay grinned. “Oh, now things are falling in place.” He pointed a finger at Daylan. “You are his namesake and that is why Khellan has returned.” He flicked a finger at the ghost. “And you have attached to your namesake hoping he or his twin can break the curse. What a tangle.” Shifting his gaze to her, he continued. “This young lass is caught in the middle with naught power to protect herself.”

“For god sakes. She’s mortal. How can she be caught in the middle?” Daylan shouted. “She shouldn’t even be able to see what’s happening.”

“Yet she does. Something to think about.” Shay shrugged one shoulder. “She is besotted with you, as you are with her. The lass’s blood may be diluted, but it’s there. The cycle begins again.”

My first #authorinterview of 2020! Meet Helen C. Johannes

My first Author Interview for 2020 is with Wild Rose Press sistah, Helen C. Johannes. Helen writes fantasy romance laden with rich characters and lush settings through the pages. She has a new book out, LORD OF DRUEMARWIN, and she’s giving you a sneak peek at the end of this interview, so stick around.

First, lets’s find out a bit about Helen’s 2 lives – the writer, and the gal:

Helen C. Johannes, The Writer

1. What drives you to write?

Stories in my head clamoring for attention and characters who simply won’t be denied their day in print.

2. What genre(s) of Romance do you write, and why?

Fantasy romance. My beloved first book was a collection of fairy tales from the European tradition. Plus, I spent formative years in the heart of Europe’s castle country where all things medieval surrounded me and history fascinated me. I could have gone into historical romance but for one important trait: I really, really like playing by my own rules. Fantasy romance lets me build medieval-style worlds that deliver the kind of storylines I want, limited only by my imagination.

3. What genre(s) of Romance do you read, and why?

I read across genres but my go-to genre is romantic suspense, both historical and contemporary. I found Agatha Christie and Mary Stewart early on, and the seamless blend of love and danger hooked me. That’s probably why I incorporate some kind of ‘ticking time bomb’ in my fantasy romances.

4. What’s your writing schedule? Do you write everyday?

As often as I can but not every day. Life has a way of setting its own schedule.

5. Give us a glimpse of the surroundings where you write. Separate room? In the kitchen? At the dining room table?

I write on my laptop at the kitchen table. It’s the warmest, sunniest room in the house (I live in a northern climate) and snacks/beverages are readily available. Plus, I’ve put my comfy office chair right up to the table

6. Are you the kind of writer who needs total quiet to compose, or are you able to filter out the typical sounds of the day and use your tunnel-vision?

When I’m deep into a scene and the words are flowing, I’m totally oblivious to anything else. Most days, though, I need quiet, or at least no one talking around or to me.

7. Do you listen to music while you write, and if so, what kind? If not, why not?

Sometimes I put on a little music, but it has to be instrumental or I’ll listen to the words rather than concentrate on my work. Lord of the Rings soundtrack or Enya, for example.

8. How did you come up with the plotline/idea for your current WIP?

The idea originated from unfinished business in PRINCE OF VAL-FEYRIDGE and, oddly enough, the Princess and the Pea fairy tale. Book one ends with their world on the brink of a new beginning. I had introduced a love interest for a major character near the end, and their love story just begged, nagged to be told in that context. My heroine faces the dilemma of the outsider, the princess who is tested by the proverbial pea to see if she and her love are worthy of the hero, his people, and the new alliances. I had fun writing all the complications that ensue before the happily ever after.

9. Which comes first for you – character or plot? And why?

Kind of both, togetherI’m what I call an ‘into the mist’ writer. That means I’m a pantser with an initial, loose plan of some serious problems for my characters to solve. The way they solve those problems usually morphs as I go along and as the characters reveal more about themselves. For me, the proverbial carrot that engages me in any story is finding out where it goes and enjoying the ride.

10. What 3 words describe you, the writer?

Intuitive, creative, layered (Peggy here: I lovelovelove that description – layered!!! fabulous!)

Helen, the Gal:

Tell us one unusual thing about yourself – not related to writing!

I double-majored in German and English.

  1. Who was your first love and what age were you?

My grandmother’s neighbor’s boy; I think I was 12, he was 14.

  1. If you could relive one day, which one would it be? Think GROUNDHOG DAY, the movie for this one – you’ll have to live it over and over and….

Meeting my husband; we danced the polka, badly, and talked for hours.

  1. What’s one thing you love about your significant other?

He’s my best friend and full partner.

  1. If you had to give up one necessary-can’t-live-without-it item, what would it be?

Milk chocolate—as long as I could still have dark chocolate

  1. What three words describe you, the person?

Reserved, problem-solver, questioner

  1. If you could sing a song with Jimmy Fallon, what would it be?

I don’t sing. Honestly, nobody wants me to sing.

  1. If you could hang out with any literary character from any book penned at any time line, who would it by, why, and what would you do together?

I would go to Tuscany with the leads from Susan Elizabeth Phillips’ Breathing Room. I’d sit down to a homemade dinner outside the little farmhouse, eat all those fabulous foods, sample the local wines, and soak up the raucous interplay of that wild and loving multi-generational family.

I love the Actor’s Studio show on Bravo, so this is my version of it:

1.      Favorite sound – Ocean or lake waves

2.      Least favorite sound – Crying—babies, cats, dogs

3.      Best song every written – Bridge over Troubled Water

4.      Worst song ever written – Barking Jingle Bells

5.      Favorite actor and actress – Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn

6.      Who would you want to be for 1 day and why? ( It can be anyone living or dead) – I’m pretty happy in my own skin

7.      What turns you on? – Sunshine, warm temps, and best friends

8.      What turns you off? – Lies

9.      Give me the worst 5 words ever heard on a first date ( here’s mine: “Is that your real hair?”) – I don’t remember words, but I remember painfully knocking knees while dancing—once—with an enthusiastic but inept partner.

10.  What’s your version of a perfect day? – Relaxing on an ocean cruise liner on a warm, sunny day at sea.

(Peggy here: I feel like we could be sistahs, Helen!! I lovelovelove Cary Grant and Kate Hepburn and grew up watching their movies and memorizing all the lines! Hee Hee)

And now, a little about LORD OF DRUEMARWIN

PAGES FROM THE HEART Winner in Fantasy Romance

In a world of lies and betrayal, can they trust each other?

Blurb:

Lady Raell can fight, ride, and argue politics as well as her brothers. Only being mistress of her father’s household keeps her in skirts. In Naed, the new Lord of Druemarwin, she has found devotion, a kindred spirit, and a marriage promise. But when a forgotten and unwanted betrothal comes to light, she has no choice but to run.

Amidst sweeping revolution, Naed must rally his people, fend off assassination attempts, and fight against claims he’s a traitor. Then he discovers everything about his lineage and family is a lie. And his beloved belongs to another.

With lives and a kingdom at stake, Raell and Naed must find a way to protect the innocent and save their love.

Excerpt:

“Raell, now is not the time—”

Aye, it wasn’t. They stood in torchlight on an open parapet while assassins stalked them, but this might be her only chance to reach him across that precipice he’d thrown up between them, to secure the future they were meant to share.

“Does my honor mean naught? When weighed with D’nalian honor, is mine lesser because ‘tis a woman’s honor? Or because ‘tis a Tolemak’s honor? Be honest and tell me that.”

The world had gone silent; Raell could hear nothing over the rush of blood in her ears, the terrible heavy beats of her heart while she waited, dizzy with fear, breathless with longing, for the man she loved to respond with a word, a look, even a blink. Even a shift of his gaze she’d take as a sign he’d at least heard, mayhap begun to consider—

“Yes, be honest, Lord Naed,” said a voice she’d heard but once, a voice that raised all the fine hairs on her body and made her innards contract into a cold, tight knot. “Tell us both how much honor means to a bastard who’s betrayed his countrymen and his blood.”
