A new ROMANTIC SUSPENSE release and a sale! Yowza

I’m tickled silly this morning because I’ve got 2 great pieces of news to share and they both involve books!. My books, hee hee

First, the second book in my A PRIDE OF BROTHER’s series, AIDEN, is officially up for preorder, with a release date of 9.8.2021. You can reserve your copy here: AIDEN

My second piece of good news is that, in anticipation of AIDEN’S release, A PRIDE OF BROTHERS: RICK is ON SALE for just 99cents!!! So if you haven’t read the first brother’s story, now’s the best time to. And just FYI – you don’t need to read book 1 to know what’s going on in book 2 because they are stand alone books.

And hey, if you look really really close at Aiden’s cover, you’ll see the heroine, Lexi, holding a copy of… you guessed it! Rick’s book. Hee hee. I love that sosos much.

#backlistThursday 2.18.2021

So this week I’m starting the backlist of my Kensington Publishing series, WILL COOK FOR LOVE. This was a 3 book series centering around cheflebrity Kandy Laine and her sisters. Book 1 is COOKING WITH KANDY and introduces Joshua Keane, who owns his own PI/Security firm, Brothers, Inc, which shows up in the Pride Of Brothers series.

Confused? Don’t be. Here’s a little about Kandy’s book:

Look for exclusive recipes in each book!

Kandy Laine built her wildly popular food empire the old-fashioned way—starting with the basic ingredients of her grandmother’s recipes and flavoring it all with her particular brand of sweet spice. From her cookbooks to her hit TV show, Kandy is a kitchen queen—and suddenly someone is determined to poison her cup. With odd accidents and threatening messages piling up, strong-willed Kandy can’t protest when her team hires someone to keep her safe—but she can’t deny that the man for the job looks delicious. . .

Josh Keane is a private investigator, not a bodyguard. But with one eyeful of Kandy’s ebony curls and dimpled smile, he’s signing on to uncover who’s cooking up trouble for the gorgeous chef. As the attraction between them starts to simmer, it’s not easy to keep his mind on the job, but when the strange distractions turn to true danger, he’ll stop at nothing to keep Kandy safe—and show her that a future together is on the menu. . .

And a little something to whet your romance reading appetites:

“My life isn’t what anyone would term normal.” She’d reined in her anger, her voice once again seductively low and calm. “I’m on the go from the minute I wake up, working fourteen-to sixteen-hour days most of the time. I have a national book tour starting in two weeks, plus I’m filming the new season. There are public appearances and television interview spots I’m scheduled to do. Go, go, go, all day, every day. You should know what you’d be setting yourself up for.”

Josh relaxed for the first time since meeting her. “Don’t worry about me. I’m used to working long hours, and I can take whatever schedule is thrown at me.”

The embers banked in her eyes, replaced by what looked like a challenge. “It might be interesting to see if that’s true, Mr. Keane.”
“Josh is fine.”
She nodded again. “Look. I came down to talk to you about tomorrow’s schedule, but I’ve got to get back to the set now. We have another segment to shoot before we call it a day.”

When she stood, Josh did as well. With a quick drag of her gaze from his feet to his head, she cocked an exquisite eyebrow, her lips pulling back in a question. “I have a hard time believing you could ever be unobtrusive.”

Josh rocked back on his heels and shoved his hands in his pants pockets. “You’d be surprised.”

A reluctant grin danced on her face.

Intrigued? here ya go, then: Buy LInks COOKING WITH  KANDY

Next week we meet Kandy’s sister, Gemma in A SHOT AT LOVE.

Until then, peeps. Be well ~ Peg

WILD CARD UNDERCOVER – A re-release of a favorite book by KARI LEMOR

I read my favorite books more than once – and author Kari Lemor’s books are some I’ve read even more than that! She’s re-releasing her  LOVE ON THE LINE series in 2021 with new covers and added material.  3 new books  are in the collection ( later in the year) and today, the first in the series – WILD CARD UNDERCOVER – comes out. Read all about it:

Some gambles are worth the risk . . .

Trapped in the nightmare of Miami’s illicit underworld, Meg O’Hara has no choice but work for a high-stakes criminal to repay a debt. Freedom is a pipe dream, until FBI agent Christopher Shaunessy offers her a way out. It won’t be easy, especially playing the role of lover to the charismatic agent. Getting the goods on her boss could mean her life, a risk she’ll take to be rid of the rat’s vulgar advances.

Chris Shaunessy doesn’t break rules, but working with Meg is pushing even his well-honed control to the limit. Personal involvement should never mix in the sordid world of organized crime. They’re playing a perilous game. Giving into temptation could be his biggest mistake because the kisses they share might be more dangerous than the case…

Heat level/warnings: some cursing, sensual scenes (PG 13) sexual chemistry, some violence

Reviews:

RT Book Reviews says: “Wild Card Undercover will capture your heart with its humor and witty characters. A knight in shining armor rescuing a damsel in distress while infiltrating the mob is no small task. Kudos to Lemor who has gracefully mixed a femme fatale with a dash of The Godfather and tossed it together with romance and laughter.”

“Intriguing and dangerous- when it comes to the take down- Kari Lemor kept the pace fast and heart wrenching. Sweet and laced with sexy banter- the entire story was emotional and Chris and Meg were a dynamic couple.”

“The story was suspenseful and fast paced, and the chemistry between the characters was sizzling.”

Excerpt:

She finished chewing the piece of cantaloupe she’d been devouring and said, “Juice would be great. Thanks. I didn’t mean to sleep so late, but the bed was amazingly comfortable. I don’t think you’re ever going to be able to get me out of here now.”

He poured juice into a glass and sat opposite her. “Glad you enjoyed it. Not everyone sleeps well in a new bed. Obviously, it didn’t affect you.”

She looked up, sheepish, taking a big bite of the cinnamon muffin in her hand. “I’m so tired after work, I could probably sleep on the side of the road.”

“I wouldn’t suggest trying that around here. You’re more than welcome to keep using the bed.”

As she grabbed a juicy, red strawberry, she rolled her eyes. When was the last time she’d eaten? He’d have to make sure to get some good food in here for her. She needed to be full strength. Hopefully, she liked home cooking, since room service hadn’t been part of the deal with the hotel.

He was sure she was a strong one, considering what she’d been through the last year or so. She’d have to be to continue day after day on her feet, then go home to that shithole of a room. Her determination in keeping her family safe was admirable.

“So, what are the plans for today?” she asked as she shoved the rest of the muffin into her mouth.

He faked a pensive look. “Well, I was thinking I’d hang out by the pool and work on my tan.”

He laughed at her exasperated glare. “It’s all part of the undercover assignment, sweetie. You can’t go running around sticking your nose in people’s business. You have to ease yourself in, slowly, so they don’t suspect anything.”

“Sweetie?” Her eyebrow raised, her tone derisive.

He threw her a crooked smile. “All part of the undercover assignment, sweetie.”

She groaned. “Do I have to call you some stupid, sappy nickname, too?”

“Only if you want to. You could make it something to show what you think of me. You know, like Stud, Hotcakes, or how about Big Daddy?”

She looked like she didn’t know whether to laugh or throw up at his suggestions.

“I know.” Her eyes gleamed. “How about Cuddlebunny?”

Was she serious? “Nah, Chris is fine.”

“Chris Martin, though, right? Shaunessy is your real name?”

“It’s actually Christopher Martin Shaunessy. It’s easier to keep things simple when undercover if you can.”

“I picked Katie for a similar reason. One of my brothers calls me Maggie Kate, and I figured I would respond to it. Harrington, O’Hara, close enough. It’s worked for me so far.”

“It’ll continue to work, until we can put Moreno behind bars

The following is a little scene from the book I’m currently penning, A PRIDE OF BROTHERS: AIDEN ( book 2 in the series.) Our hero is Private Investigator Aiden Keane, our heroine Lexi Buckley, Ph.D This scene is in chapter 1 when they are seated next to one another on a place bound for NYC. This is how I picture them in my mind when I am writing them…

“Have you been away long?”

“Too long.”

Before she could ask why, the overhead announcements started. Because she knew knowledge was the key to everything, Lexi gave all her attention to the flight attendants as they went through the safety precautions, even though she had them memorized.

Trying to be covert about it, she snaked her hand under the seat when told the cushion could be used as a floatation device during a water landing, just to make sure it was there and at the ready. She pulled the inflight instructions card from the pouch in front of her when it was referred to, and she made special notice of how close to the other exit doors she was when it was suggested.

“You’ve flown before, right?” Aiden asked when the crew finished.

“Many times.” She turned and found the ghost of a grin tripping across his mouth.

“Do you always listen so intently to the safety speech?”

“Of course. Don’t you?”

He shook his head. “The narrative never changes. I could repeat it in my sleep.”

She could too, but it still didn’t prevent her from listening.

One of the flight attendants who’d been walking down the aisle assuring the overhead compartments were closed, stopped at their row.

“Hi,” she said. It didn’t get passed Lexi the smile broadened when she lit on Aiden. “You two are seated next to the emergency exit door and I just want to make sure you know what to do in the event we need to access the door.”

She prattled on with the expectations, then asked, “Are you comfortable assuming that responsibility?”

Lexi said yes immediately.

“Thank you, and enjoy your flight.”

The last part was directed at her seatmate before she turned to the couple across the aisle and started her spiel again.

Aiden’s smile stayed in place when he turned back to her. With an eyebrow raised, he said, “I get the feeling you requested this seat.”

“I did.”

“Should I be worried?”

It took her a moment to see past the humor lacing his words to the steely caution in his eyes.

“No, no. God, no. It’s not that.”

The other eyebrow joined its mate. “Then…?”

Lexi swallowed and felt like she’d been pulled into the principal’s office to explain an adolescent prank.

“Research shows the safest place to be in the event of”—she lowered her voice and shifted closer to him so her words wouldn’t carry—“an emergency, is sitting by this door. I can stay calm in an emergency so I figured I’d rather leave my chances of surviving something up to me than to a total stranger who might crack under pressure.”

He stared at her a few beats and she’d give the last chocolate candy she had in her secret stash at the library to know what he was thinking.

Then, he leaned in closer as she had to him and her gaze dropped to his mouth when he asked, “Do you always like to be in control?”

For the first time in her adult life, Lexi couldn’t speak. All the statistics she had running rampant in her brain about the psychological impacts of OCD and control issues stayed locked inside her. Her mouth fell open but nothing came out. When Aiden’s gaze flicked down to her parted lips, lingered for a moment, then dragged back up in time for her to catch his pupils dilate, she slammed her mouth shut and took a deep breath.

The thought he was flirting with her drifted into her mind but was quickly shooed away. Men didn’t flirt with Alexis Buckley. She wasn’t the sister who garnered male attention, Zoe was. This man was asking because he assumed she had some nefarious reason for wanting the emergency seat. In this day and age, who could blame him? Crazies came in all shapes and forms. And genders.

Lexi took another breath and then called forth her most professional voice, the one she used with recalcitrant students, annoying adults, and anyone who needed a firm hand.

“I’ve found,” she said, happy her voice was controlled and modulated, just the way she liked it, “that’s is easier, and best, to rely on myself when situations arise that call for some kind of action. If that’s what you mean by being in control, then, yes.”

She met his appraising stare with calm and cool eyes and hoped that would be the end of it.

“Good to know,” he said, just as the captain came over the loud speaker.

*** It needs a little work, but the dynamics are coming together.

Enjoy your Holidays, peeps ~ peg

First of all, Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful moms, mothers, and mammas out there!

I would be remiss if I didn’t put up a little something about a mom, now, wouldn’t I?

Here’s a little interaction between Abby Laine and her mom Hannah from my first romantic suspense A PRIDE OF BROTHERS: RICK.

Enjoy.

“Rick’s going to drive you home,” Hannah told her as she helped her daughter into the T-shirt and sweat pants she’d brought from her apartment while Rick waited outside the room. “I’ll let you get all settled and rest a bit before I descend on you again to help out.”

“Mom, I’ll be fine,” Abby said. “You don’t need to hover.”

“I’m not hovering.” Hannah held Abby’s shoes as her daughter slipped into them. “I’m concerned about you.”

“You don’t need to be,” Abby replied instantly. “I’ll be fine on my own.”

Hannah stood upright, fisted her hands on her hips, and tossed Abby the same glare Grandma Sophie used to. “Of course you will,” she said with a shake of her head. “And even if you weren’t, you’d never tell me otherwise, but—” She raised a hand as Abby started to speak. “Pretend you need some looking after anyway, will you? If for no other reason than to make your old mother feel useful, okay?”

“Mom.” Overcome, Abby reached her arms out. Hannah moved into them and slipped her hands around her daughter’s waist. With her head on her mother’s shoulder, Abby said, “You’re not old, and you’re always useful. I’ll always need you.”

Hannah chuckled and sniffed. Pulling back, Abby was surprised at the tears swimming in her mother’s beautiful and expressive eyes.

“You know,” Hannah said, “that’s the first time since you were eleven years old you’ve told me you need me for something. I have to admit, I’ve missed hearing it all these years.”

Mom.” Abby swiped her hands down her mother’s arms and held her hands. “I haven’t been the best daughter.”

“Well…” Hannah grinned. “It certainly wouldn’t kill you to call more often, that’s the truth.”

Abby laughed, then winced. “Ow.” She braced a hand over the bandage under her sweats.

“Of all my girls, you’re the one with the tightest lips,” Hannah said, glancing down at her daughter’s hand, then back up to her face. “And the softest heart.”

Abby rolled her eyes. “Don’t let any of my colleagues hear you. I have a reputation as a hard-ass.”

“Abigail June.”

“Uh-oh. Now I know where Kandy gets that tone.”

“I know why you keep things so close,” Hannah said. “Why you’re so tightlipped and never want anyone to worry, but Abby, you’re my daughter. Whether you tell me to or not, I’ll always worry about you. I love you with all my heart.”

Her own eyes now filling, Abby nodded. “I love you, too. I know I don’t say it enough, and I’m sorry for that. I need to say it more. Show it more.”

“Actions are always better than words,” Hannah said with a grin, “so I’ll be expecting more phone calls in the future. And speaking of actions,” she added when Abby smiled at her, “Rick’s actions have been screaming.”

Abby went stone still. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

#WeeklyWrapup I’ve been all over the blogging map this week!

It’s no secret if you follow my blog that I’ve got a brand new series starting on Monday, 1.13.20 titled A PRIDE OF BROTHERS: RICK. It’s a new romantic suspense trilogy about a private eye firm run by brothers ( hence, the name. Heehee)

I’ll be all over the place promoting it for the next month, but this past week I started my own little tour and visited a bunch of fabulous authors who volunteered to help me get the word out about the book – love them all. At each stop I told you all a little more about the book, how it came to be, what my inspiration for writing it was, and a bit more about my writing quirks.

So, if you missed any of these, here’s a recap of where I was all week with the links included so you can visit me. Better late than never, I always say.

On Monday, January 6, I visited WRP sistah Alana Lorens

On Tuesday, January 7, I hopped over to another wonderful WRP sistah, author Judith Sterling.

Wednesday, January 8th, brought me to WRP writer and friend Jennifer Wilck

Thursday, January 9th I flew over to WRP sistah Amber Dalton

Friday, January 10 I made it all the way over to Jeny Heckman’s blog

Today, Saturday Januray 11, I’m camping over with  author D.V.Stone starting at 7am ESt.

I was thrilled when the book was featured on Pretty-Hot.com, too, on January 6.

So, stop by and catch up and then stop back here next week because I’ll be starting a SILVER DAGGER TOUR that features giveaways and Gift Cards, so you won’t want to miss out on that.

Until next time ~ Peg
