Talkin’ on the Radio!!!

So I really do hate my voice!!! hee hee.

Here’s the link to my LA TALK RADIO appearance last night on The WRITER’S BLOCK.

It was so much funfunfunfunfun. The hosts made me feel so comfortable within the first 30 seconds and the time just flew. If you have a little less than an hour today, maybe on a lunch break, or if you’re driving, give it a listen. The questions asked were in-depth and very thoughtful and actually made me think.

And if  the interview intrigues you about the book we discussed, here are the deets for A PRIDE OF BROTHERS: RICK

Elite bodyguard and P.I. Rick Bannerman’s job is to protect. He doesn’t get emotional with his clients, but when a woman from his past is threatened, his next job becomes personal.
Family lawyer Abigail Laine is the target of a client’s vengeful husband, but refuses Rick’s offer of protection. He walked away from her four years ago, and she swore to forget him.
Now her reluctance to accept his help could cost Abby her life.

If you know me, personally, you know two things: 1. I’m a gabber, and 2. I hate my voice.

#TeaserTuesday 6.9.2020

It’s fun taking a fairy tale and reworking it. That’s what I tried to do in my Limitless book Dirty Damsels, and in my indie book WOKE, which releases into the book reading world on 7.1.2020.

In WOKE, I took the premise of Sleeping Beauty and modernized it. This sleeping beauty isn’t waiting for love’s first kiss to awaken her, though. She’s a modern woman who’s grabbing life by the proverbial reins and forging her future.

In today’s Teaser Tuesday, A.J. explains a little about her life, after waking up.

When I’d first woken from ten years of immobility, the muscles in my legs had given me the most difficulty. I was confined to a wheelchair for the first six months, unable to lift to a standing position without help. When I was upright, my legs were too weak to support me. Sam and his team had worked tirelessly day after day to build my upper body strength to some semblance of normal. Once my arms were stronger and I could lift myself I was able to use a walker on my own to help my legs get back their strength.

More nights that I could stand to remember I’d broken down, frustrated at my lack of progress and in serious pain. Maeve and my mother had brokered no whining, though, reminding me often that I was a fifth generation Brightwell and strength and intestinal fortitude were our bedrocks. Maeve had massaged my aching muscles while my mother had become an expert on nutrition and health management.

My coma had been caused by an allergic reaction to the drugs I’d been given, so I was unable to take any prescribed meds for the almost continual pain. I learned to grit my teeth and work through it with Maeve and mom’s help, and today I was relatively pain free.

There’s something to be said for generational fortitude and grit, I suppose.

Intrigued? The ecopy is on preorder here, now. If you like a print book, for some reason Amazon has made that available already, here.

And because I love PINTEREST so much, WOKE has it’s very own board, here

You might like these other modernized fairy tales as well…

Dirty Damsels

What if Cynderella had a one-night stand with a man named Prince? When I first saw Cynderella all covered in soot in that sexy maid uniform, I knew I wanted to be her Prince. She’s a smart and savvy businesswoman who’s built her cleaning company from the ground up. But now that Dirty Damsels was booming, I’ve been hired to arrange a hostile takeover. But the temptation of having her was too much to ignore… We ended up spending one night together–a night neither of us will forget. Now, I want more. I need more. I want to spend every night, skin-on-skin, with my beautiful Ella. Problem is, when she finds out who I really am, she’ll never forgive me.

It’a A Trust Thing

Nell Newbery has trust issues. It’s hard to trust when you’re the daughter of a fallen financial scion who bilked people out of billions. Nell’s done everything in her power to keep away from men who see her as their ticket to fortune and fame. All she wants to do is run her ultra-successful business, HELPFUL HUNKS, in peace.

But it wouldn’t hurt to find a guy who doesn’t know a thing about her father’s felonious past; one she can give her heart to and trust it won’t come back to her battered, bruised, and broken.

Is Charlie Churchill that guy? On the surface he seems perfect, all polished manners and quiet mirth. Nell’s convinced he knows nothing about her, other than she likes superhero movies and views junk food as a food group.

Can she trust him to be what he appears to be? Or is he just pretending?

For Nell, trust is everything in life…and in love.

#LongandShortReviews #bloggingchallenge 5.20.2020

I have to be honest: I wet my pants from laughing so hard when I read today’s topic/prompt: How I’d Fare in a zombie Apocalypse.

Pretty damn good, if I do say so.

First of all, I can shoot a gun,  and I can move faster than a zombie so I’d be able to shoot their heads of before they got to me.

Second, I’m already a hermit and I live in  the woods. My surrounding property would be boobytrapped so that any of the zombies stomping toward the light in my house would snap the trip wires and **BLAM** no more zombie.

Third, I’m smart. Scary smart. Zombies are…not.

Last, I’m a devotee of the Lara Croft school of defense.

Them zombies don’t stand a chance.

Let’s see what some of the other writers in this challenge think: L&SR

Until next time, zombie fighters ~ Peg

VANILLA WITH A TWIST is part of the One Scoop or Two summer series from the Wild Rose Press. All the books are stand-alones and involve ice cream in some way.

Tandy Blakemore spends her days running her New England ice cream parlor, single-parenting her teenage son, and trying to keep her head above financial water. No easy feat when the shop’s machinery is aging and her son is thinking about college. Tandy hasn’t had a day off in a decade and wonders if she’ll ever be able to live a worry-free life.

Engineer Deacon Withers is on an enforced vacation in the tiny seaside town of Beacher’s Cove. Overworked, stressed, and lonely, he walks into Tandy’s shop for a midday ice cream cone and gets embroiled in helping her fix a broken piece of equipment.

Can the budding friendship that follows lead to something everlasting?

#SundaySnippet 5.17.2020

With just 3 more days until VANILLA WITH A TWIST releases, I would be remiss not to push the book a little more today on my Sunday Snippet!

“For the record, Tandy, I don’t do favors in order to get something in return. I do them because I want to, because it gives me pleasure, and simply because I can.”

Her shoulders relaxed, and she bit down on her bottom lip as she dropped her chin.

“Now, it would be a lie to say I’m not attracted to you.”

Her head shot up again, and the surprise crossing her face was almost comical.

“And I don’t lie. Ever. You’re a beautiful, warm, and fascinating woman, and I’ve enjoyed getting to know you. But I would never ask or expect a woman, no matter how attracted I was to her, to have sex with me because I helped her in some way. I’m not that kind of guy, and I’m sorry if you think I am.”

In truth, he was hurt more than sorry.

Her shoulders sagged. She shook her head, the copper strands slipping from her messy topknot and swaying against her cheeks.

“I’m the one who’s sorry,” she said when she lifted her gaze back to his. “I’m sorry for doubting your…intentions and suspecting there was more behind them than there was.”

With his head cocked, he regarded her as he tried valiantly not to smile. She looked about twelve years old right now, like a kid being chastised for wrongdoing.

“Thank you for saying that.” It didn’t escape his notice she hadn’t commented on his statement about being attracted to her.

A little about my friend, Lucinda Race:

Award winning author, Lucinda Race is a life long fan of romantic fiction. As a young girl, she spent hours reading novels and dreaming of, one day, becoming a writer.

As life twists and turns, she found herself writing nonfiction but longed to turn to her true passion, romantic fiction. After developing the story line for The Loudon Series, it was time to start living her dream. With fingers flying over computer keys, she does her best to bleed on the page.

Lucinda lives, with her husband Rick, and their two little dogs, Jasper and Griffin, in the rolling hills of western Massachusetts. When she’s not writing romance novels Lucinda still reads everything she can get her hands on.

A visit with #author Judith Hudson

Today is a treat for me – and you as well! I’ve got one of my Romance Gems sistahs, Judith Hudson visiting me. She’s got a new 3 book boxed set out and she’s here telling us all a little about it.

Take it away, Judith….

Looking for feel-good escapist reading? Friendship, family and happily-ever-after. That’s how I describe this small-town romance series set in the Pacific northwest in the town of Fortune Bay.

It all starts with a ramshackle cabin on the lake – complete with an interfering ghost, landlord’s Aunt Augusta. In each book, the cabin proves to be a haven for people at the crossroads of their lives.

The series has grown beyond these first three books, the intertwining stories of three friends, but in my mind they are the heart and soul of the Fortune Bay series and it just felt right to put them out together in this three-book boxed set – new this spring!

Book one is Summer of Fortune
Maddie wasn’t looking for romance when she moved to Fortune Bay for the summer. She was just glad to find a place to stay that she could afford, where she could set up her dark room and work on the photographs for her first solo show.
A troubled childhood had left her a loner. It was just easier that way. But now for the first time she was finding the loneliness hard, since her daughter had gone and live with her father for the summer.
Maddie wasn’t expecting to meet a group of people who would change her life – and definitely not her landlord Jake Murphy, a single father himself, who just might teach her that she could have it all, friendship, family and happily ever after.

Book two, The Good Neighbor, is Maddie’s neighbor Frankie’s story, and it’s Sean who moves into the cabin this time.
Frankie’s life is going just fine, thank you very much. She has a lovely house on Majestic lake and a good job teaching at the local high school. What she doesn’t need is Sean Murphy moving in next door and shaking things up. He seems like just the kind of charming young exec her father would approve of – a black mark against him in her eyes.
What she doesn’t see are the demons Sean is hiding, the daughter he gave up as a teen who he’d give anything to find today.

Book three, Home For Christmas, it’s Louise’s turn.
Louise is coming home for Christmas, but just for Christmas. She has finally gotten out of Fortune Bay and now that her pastry course is finished, her future awaits her in Seattle, a long way away from her old job at the Fortune Bay Cafe.
Her old friend Blue has moved on too – he can’t wait forever, hoping she’ll see how much he cares. Growing up, he was her shoulder to cry on, but he’s moved on too.
But, with Christmas festivities swirling around them, Louise’s live take a sharp turn. Can Blue really turn his back on her now, when her whole future is at stake?

Get this three-books-in-one introduction to the series. You might end up feeling like the reader who said – “I want to live in Fortune Bay!”

Judy Hudson

A little about Judy….

Judy grew up in Toronto Canada and St. Louis MO, then moved to the Pacific Northwest where she now lives on beautiful Vancouver Island.

Her romantic women’s fiction series, Fortune Bay Books, is set in the Pacific Northwest. In each book, someone at a crossroads of their life moves into a ramshackle cabin on Majestic Lake where they work through their problems with the help of friends and family, and the occasional nudge from the friendly spirit of Aunt Augusta. If a romance grows in the process, and it always does, well, so much the better.

As an landscape artist and photographer, the setting of the story is very important to Judy. “I’ve painted in the area for many years and I think it helps me make the setting real for the reader, helps draw them into the story. My characters are often artists, like Maddie, the darkroom photographer in Summer of Fortune who is at Fortune Bay for the summer to work on her first professional show, and Stephanie, the widowed matriarch of the clan who is finding a new life as a painter.”

You can connect with Judith here:

A visit with #author Marie Tuhart and a wicked good new book series!

You all know I love when one of my Wild Rose Press sistahs comes to visit. Today I’ve got Rose MARIE TUHART with me and she’s got a brand new book – the first in a new series – available that she’s excited to talk about ( so am I!!)

The title is TEMPT and the cover is hot!

A Wicked Sanctuary Novel – Surrender your inhibitions…..

I’m super excited to have the first book in a new series available. The idea for this series had been wandering around in my head for a few years. I had a basic sketch for three books but that was it. Last year I was in-between book and sat down with the idea and began really looking at it.

While things changed, the series soon blossomed from three books to nine book, with the possibility of more. The characters have changed since I first sketched them out, and continue to as I write the books. It will be fun to see each character as I write the books.

Blurb:

Wicked Sanctuary: surrender your inhibitions

After escaping her ex-boyfriend’s horror-themed campout, Sierra Blake stumbles into the a world she didn’t know existed. Dominance and submission. Curious and spirited, but with a history of picking the wrong man, she learns to trust Max and her instincts. But old fears come back into focus, and Sierra will have to find the inner strength to take control of her own life and become the woman she wants to be for Max.

Max Preston has shut himself off from woman, until Sierra crashes into his life. Confronted by a uninvited guest, Max’s protective instincts go into high gear seeing a lone, rain soaked woman on his doorstep. He wants nothing more than to bring her into his world of dominance and submission. But when his ex shows up, life becomes more complicated. All Max wants is Sierra now he has to prove it to her.

Discovering a new confidence under Max’s protection, Sierra finds herself falling for him. But when Max’s too-prefect ex-wife triggers old insecurities, she run – smack into her past with her ex-boyfriend and abusive father. Sierra fights against old insecurities and fight for what she wants. Max.

Excerpt:

“What the…?”

Sierra fought the urge to take a step back at the rough male voice. Blinking the rain out of her eyes, she stared at the bare male chest. Her heart pounded as she allowed her gaze to travel up the sculpted pecs, to unsmiling lips, stormy hazel eyes, straight, medium length black hair and a pair of red devil horns on his head. The man was tall, over six feet.

She swallowed. “Sorry to bother you. If I could borrow your phone, I need to call someone to pick me up.”

The man made a noise in the back of his throat. “Ralph,” he said over his shoulder, “towels please, and lots of them.”

His husky voice sent a shiver down her spine. Must be the rain. He was staring down at her.

“Get in here before you catch a cold.”

“But the floors…” She was dripping water from everywhere.

He reached out and took her by the elbow before pulling her into the foyer and slamming the door shut behind them. “Floors can be cleaned. You’re shivering.” He glanced down at her. “May I?” He gestured to her feet.

She nodded without thinking. He was right; she was soaked and cold. Her gaze shifted as he knelt down and unlaced her boots.

He was wearing dark, well-worn, loose pants and a pair of soft black shoes. Okay, maybe he was afraid she’d stomp on his toes.

“I’m sorry to disturb your party.” She ignored the zing of arousal shooting down her spine as his fingers curved around her ankle after removing her boots.

“Party?”

“The horns.” She waved toward his head.

He grinned, and her breath caught in her throat.

“Ah, yes. Saints and Sinners party.”

Halloween party. She’d totally forgotten Halloween was next week.

Another man, carrying towels, came rushing out of the doorway down the hall. The man in front of her grabbed the top one, shook it out, and offered it to her.

“Thank you.” She took the towel and rubbed her face. Warmth enveloped her skin. She bit back a delightful moan. The towels had been heated.

“Take the backpack off.” She obeyed without thinking.

Sierra shrugged the pack off and dropped it to the floor, then rolled her shoulders. When did her pack grow so heavy? She didn’t have that much in it.

The man shook out another towel and draped it over her shoulders before taking the one in her hands and replacing it with another one. “Ralph, grab one of the robes, please.”

“Sure, boss.” The man lumbered off.

“That’s not necessary. If I could just use your phone.”

He stared at her. She drowned in those hazel eyes. This was a man used to being obeyed, and she could play the game, at least for now. “Thank you, Mister… I don’t even know your name.”

“Max.” His gaze traveled from the top of her head to her toes and back again. Sierra’s spine stiffened and her chin rose.

“Max…” She used the stern voice she used with some of her co-workers. “I do apologize for pulling you from your party. All I need is a phone to call a friend to come pick me up.”

The gleam of respect that flashed in his eyes boosted her ego. After the last twenty-four hours, she needed to be reminded she still had a backbone. “Did your car break down?”

“No.” She wasn’t going to lie.

“How did you get here?”

“Walked.” Now wasn’t the time to get into the whole story.

His eyes narrowed. “Where did you walk from?” There was that note of steel in his voice once again.

Sierra let out a sigh. “The campground.”

Ralph appeared holding out a white robe. Max took it and held it out to her. By the weight of his stare, she had a feeling if she didn’t put it on, there would be an argument, one that had her losing.

With a sigh, she slipped her arms into the robe. She wobbled on her feet as Max pulled the fabric over her front, then before she could say anything, he lifted her into his arms.

“What are you doing?” Her voice was high as she instinctively put her arms around his neck.

“Carrying you. You’re swaying on your feet. I don’t want you to faint.”

“I never faint.” But after today who knows.
