In a week, a lot can happen…..

Hee hee. Ominous title for a blog, no?!! I don’t mean it to be because I’m talking about the 7 more days – or as the kids say – 7 more sleeps – until IT’S A TRUST THING releases into the ebook reading world.

But it wouldn’t hurt to find a guy who doesn’t know a thing about her father’s felonious past; one she can give her heart to and trust it won’t come back to her battered, bruised, and broken.

Is Charlie Churchill that guy? On the surface he seems perfect, all polished manners and quiet mirth. Nell’s convinced he knows nothing about her, other than she likes superhero movies and views junk food as a food group.

Can she trust him to be what he appears to be? Or is he just pretending?

I’ve been a little absent from this blog hop lately because I’ve been uber busy. But this topic was one I found I could easily write: Books I’ve read on someone else’s recommendation.

Before Netgalley, word of mouth was the best way I found out about new authors and new books. Rosie O’Donnell recommended HARRY POTTER on her television show and I was so enamored at the idea of the book I bought it and my then 8 year old daughter and I read it together.

A girlfriend recommended I read Marianne Rice’s STRAWBERRY KISSES and I’ve been a fan every since!

While at a romance writing conference, I overheard two gals talking about this author they’d discovered named JILL SHALVIS who wrote a book called the LUCKY HARBOR series. I’ve been a faithful fan since the first day I read one of those books.

And before I knew that JD ROBB was the doppelganger of Nora Roberts, I read NAKED IN DEATH based on a recommendation of the woman who owned my local book store. I loved the voice of JD Robb at once and when I found out she was really Nora, well, that just solidified her books for me.

Now, with Netgalley, I’m able to be the one who recommends books to my own friends….which is fantastic!! My only hope in life is that someone recommends MY BOOKS to some of THEIR friends!

Hee hee.

Another conference come and gone, and some career-defining moments…

Last Friday and Saturday I attended the 2019 Fall in Love New England Romance Readers and Authors conference in Nashua, NH. This was the third time I’ve attended and the first where I was a board member ( I was in charge of swag collection). Once again, I had a marvelous time interacting with the wonderful romance readers who faithfully flock to the conference, registering for it the moment the links go up on line! They are thrilled to meet their favorite authors, visit my beautiful state, and have a fun-filled weekend away.

There were so many memorable moments from this year’s conference that it would take me a week of blogging to state them all. Certain ones do stand out, though.

This year I was part of two workshops given to the readers. One was on romance tropes with NHRWA chaptermate Cheri Allan, the second was on writing humor into your stories with (again) Cheri Allan and another NHRWA writing pal, Lisa Olech.

Giving those two workshops introduced me -and my writing – to an entirely new group of readers. The payback for this? At Saturday’s booksigning the majority of readers who purchased my books told me they were so entertained by the workshops I co-presented they “had” to read my work.

That, my dear friends, is a career-defining moment.

When a typically introverted author can make such a good impression – publicly – on a group of people with their spoken words so much so that they want to read their words/stories, well, let’s just say that’s like finding a golden ticket! My heart simply sighed with pride.

From the halloween costume dinner, to the annual hotel trick-or-treating, to the fun workshops and booksigning, the weekend was a success in every way. Here are some photos: My costume was an easy one this year – I pretended I was going to my old nursing job! Hee hee

Jennifer Kerfien – I am so glad I met you at the first FILNE. Your friendship and support means the world to me. Plus, you give great gifts!!!

Josee Giroux – Ditto! And I’d work with you as a health professional any day of the week. Hee Hee

To all my NHRWA sistahs who attended this year: Clair Brett, Cheri Allan, Kathy Hills, Lisa Olech, Linda Kepner, D.L. Jackson, Nora Leduc, Sandra Waine – you ladies inspire me every day.

The all my ROMANCE GEMS sistahs who attended this year: Nora LeDuc, Elsa Kurt, Satin Russell, Kari Lemor, Lucinda Race, Nancy Fraser Kathy Hills it was such a blast meeting you all!

Next year, FILNE 2020 will have new leadership at the helm in Suzanne Eglington. I simply can not wait for the 2020 conference!!!

AT last!!! Here it is, my wonderful cover for TODAY, TOMORROW, ALWAYS ( A Match Made in Heaven)

I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect depiction for this book. Thank you to DIANA CARLILE for such a gorgeous representation of Cathy and Mac’s story.

It was a hard book to write and it wrung me dry many times. I had to step away from it twice when the crying over my keyboard got a bit much!! heehee.

But don’t worry; Cathy’s story is sad in a few ways, but since this is an O’Dowd sister book, you know there are plenty of LOL moments, especially when 93 year old Nanny Fee is on the page. Trust me, she’s just as flirtatious and outrageous as ever. ( Thank goodness!)

I hope you love the cover as much as I do – and I REALLY do!

#SundaySnippet 10.20.19

So, tomorrow I’m revealing the amazeballs cover for my upcoming Match Made in Heaven release TODAY, TOMORROW, ALWAYS. I’m uber-excited for you all to read about Cathy O’Dowd Mulvaney and Mac Frayne. They are two very different people and I had to really stretch as a writer to get them together for an HEA.

Today, here’s a little something about the first time Cathy meets Frayne.

Any remnants of a grin remaining on my face died the moment my gaze lit on McLachlan Frayne.

On the book jacket, he’d given off an air of commanding arrogance as he’d stared into the camera’s lens. In the flesh, that description flew out the window.

He was tall, so I had to lift my head to view him properly. Those wide shoulders were covered in a dark sports jacket a size or two too big for his frame. Under it, a black V-neck sweater sat over the same color T-shirt, the collar peeking through the jagged neck of the vee. Yards of leg were covered by faded jeans, white from wear in all the regular stress places. Black Converse sneakers adorned his feet and looked so soft and comfortable, I grew a little jealous.

Shaggy hair a good time past a trim framed a face that could have been a tourism board ad for Ireland. Eyes the same color as frozen Arctic ice were deer-caught-in-the-headlights wide as a twin set of commas indented the corners of his mouth. The notion he was in some kind of pain shot through me, and for the briefest of moments, I wanted to reach up and run a finger along those grooves to smooth away whatever anguish had caused them.

Fall in Love with New England 2019…

I’m so happy today has finally come!! the first FILNE reader and writer conference in 2 years starts today. We have a boatload of wonderful workshops for our readers, a costume party dinner and then trickortreating this evening. Who says kids get to have all the fun!

Last night was an epic swag bag stuffing with over 20 authors and readers helping to stuff this year’s good bag with over 3o items and print copies of fabulous romance books.

If you’re attending, hope to see you around the hotel. I’m sponsoring a romcom table at lunch! Come and join me. 9 Lucky lunchers will get lovely prizes and the chance to win a basket filled with romcom movies, adult beverages and candy for a girl’s night romcom marathon.

A little surprise and whole lot of joy!

I’ve entered a lot of romance/writing contests in the past 4 years. The main objective has never been to win an award ( although that’s nice!) but to get my work in front of industry people and romance readers who may like it enough to either review it, recommend it, or – hopefully – want to read more of what I’ve written. Like I’ve said, the goal hasn’t been winning.

But….

Imagine my absolute joy when I found out the other day – just through happenstance – that I’d WON ( yes, won!) The 2019 Book Buyers Best Award for published authors!

That’s MY name listed there, first. Gobsmacked is a word that has never felt more appropriate than when I heard about this.

The reason I say I heard through happenstance was because I had no idea I’d won and the winners were announced last week. I knew I was a finalist in 2 categories but since I didn’t receive any notification of a win, I never bothered checking the website to see what the results of the contest were, assuming that I’d be notified of something major.

And what’s that old saw about assuming anything, hmmm?

I was just checking my email on Tuesday evening and saw a note from one of my Wild Rose Press sistahs Maria Imbalzano.

She put up a notice that said “congratulations to Peggy Jaeger for winning the BBB Award.”

WHAT??!!

I immediately went to the website and sure enough, the above graphic was listed.

Yup, gobsmacked describes it nicely!

A while back I did a 2-post series about Imposter Syndrome. Those feelings most – if not all – authors feel about their work are valid in the times we live in. But….winning such a prestigious award as the BOOK BUYERS BEST (BBB) is something that definitely helps in removing those feelings of inadequacy and fear.

Thank you so much to the readers and judges of the Orange Country Chapter of RWA and congratulations to all the writers who entered, finaled, and put themselves “out there” to be judged. It’s not an easy thing to do, that’s for sure.

And now, because it’s true that you’re only as good as your last book…off I go to finish my current WIP!
