Another conference come and gone, and some career-defining moments…

Last Friday and Saturday I attended the 2019 Fall in Love New England Romance Readers and Authors conference in Nashua, NH. This was the third time I’ve attended and the first where I was a board member ( I was in charge of swag collection). Once again, I had a marvelous time interacting with the wonderful romance readers who faithfully flock to the conference, registering for it the moment the links go up on line! They are thrilled to meet their favorite authors, visit my beautiful state, and have a fun-filled weekend away.

There were so many memorable moments from this year’s conference that it would take me a week of blogging to state them all. Certain ones do stand out, though.

This year I was part of two workshops given to the readers. One was on romance tropes with NHRWA chaptermate Cheri Allan, the second was on writing humor into your stories with (again) Cheri Allan and another NHRWA writing pal, Lisa Olech.

 

Giving those two workshops introduced me -and my writing – to an entirely new group of readers. The payback for this? At Saturday’s booksigning the majority of readers who purchased my books told me they were so entertained by the workshops I co-presented they “had” to read my work.

That, my dear friends, is a career-defining moment.

When a typically introverted author can make such a good impression – publicly – on a group of people with their spoken words so much so that they want to read their words/stories,  well, let’s just say that’s like finding a golden ticket! My heart simply sighed with  pride.

From the halloween costume dinner, to the annual hotel trick-or-treating, to the fun workshops and booksigning, the weekend was a success in  every way. Here are some photos: My costume was an easy one this year – I pretended I was going to my old nursing job! Hee hee

Next year, FILNE 2020 will have new leadership at the helm in Suzanne Eglington. I simply can not wait for the 2020 conference!!!

Fall in Love with New England 2019…

I’m so happy today has finally come!! the first FILNE reader and writer conference in 2 years starts today. We have a boatload of wonderful workshops for our readers, a costume party dinner and then trickortreating this evening. Who says kids get to have all the fun!

Last night was an epic swag bag stuffing with over 20 authors and readers helping to stuff this year’s good bag with over 3o items and print copies of fabulous romance books.

If you’re attending, hope to see you around the hotel. I’m sponsoring a romcom table at lunch! Come and join me. 9 Lucky lunchers will get lovely prizes and the chance to win a basket filled with romcom movies, adult beverages and candy for a girl’s night romcom marathon.

It’s #October and that means….a #booksale for a #fallthemed Romance!

This is exactly what it looks like in my little piece of Heaven in NH right now!! I love the fall colors, and they seem especially bright this year.

What I’m looking forward to this October…

I’m stealing this idea from an author friend ( Don’t look, Marianne Rice!) and giving you the things I’m looking forward to during the month of October.

  1. The trees turning colors. If you know me, you know this is one of my favorite things to happen all year. I even wrote a blog post about my love  of watching the colors change in New England for the Romance Gems.
  2. The Fall in love with New England Writers and Readers Conference on October 18-19 in Nashua, NH. Read all about it here: FILNE and don’t forget the book signing which is open to the romance reading public for free on Saturday, October 19 from 2-5 pm.
  3. The Annual Keene Pumpkin Festival. For several years, my little town of Keene, NH held the Guinness World Record for the number of jack-0-lanterns lit at one time!!! We’re trying to regain our title, so come and join us on October 12 at the Monadnock Pumpkin Festival Check out this fabulous photo taken by Keene’s own Dr. Jeffrey Newcomber:
  4.  Halloween candy. ‘Nuff said on that one!
  5. Apple picking. Every year for the past 25, Hubby and I ( and darling daughter when she lived at home)  go apple picking in a local orchard. For days after my house would smell delectable with the scent of cooking apples for apple sauce and pie crust for apple pies. Mmmmmm.

SO that’s it for me. October is a great month here in the Northeast. Lot’s to do. Lots’ to take advantage of. Maybe you  need a road trip here??!!

When reviews make you cry! Happy tears, though!!!

The other day I found out that two of my recent books – Dearly Beloved and Christmas and Cannolis  – were both reviewed by InD’Tail magazine – a leader in independent book reviewers. Today I’m going to share the Dearly Beloved one, tomorrow C&C. Can I just tell you how happy this makes me!!!!

ROMANTIC COMEDY:  Slade Harrington is big time in Manhattan, very successful and very rich. He’s also very protective of his baby sister Izzy, who is ready to marry the man of her dreams. Slade is ready to give her the wedding of her dreams, he’s paying for whatever she wants. Their father has not been the best role model, with multiple ex-wives on his resume. Slade has sworn off marriage indefinitely. Colleen O’Dowd is a wedding coordinator in Heaven, New Hampshire. Her sister runs an Inn where Izzy’s wedding is booked. When Slade accompanies his sister to check out what he’s paying for, Colleen is an added bonus. There are some undeniable sparks between them, but Colleen knows he’s a playboy and cannot mix business with pleasure.

“Dearly Beloved” will take readers on a journey of a fairytale wedding, or rather a true wedding filled with family drama start to finish! Ms. Jaeger captures a beautiful sibling relationship that flourishes when the parents are not emotionally or physically available. This story does have the stereotypical rich hero and not so rich heroine, but the added siblings and family members balance it out. There is the cheating ex that makes an appearance which is predictable in this situation, but he is the one that readers will love to hate. Overall, the push and pull of the budding romance is delightfully written, and readers will enjoy this quick read that ties up with a red-bow ending! This is the first book of a series, so readers might want to check out the others and see what feisty grandma Fiona is up to next!

on #BookThemes, new releases, and a little introspection

It’s no secret I’ve had a couple’a new books released lately. If you subscribe to this blog you know that I’ve been talking about them ad nauseum! Sorry, but gotta get the word out there, hee hee!

But today I wanted to give you all a little insight into the reasons why there’s such a running theme in my current books.

Forgiveness has been front and center in the last three of my book releases, HOPE’S DREAM, DEARLY BELOVED, and the 12.12.18 book CHRISTMAS AND CANNOLIS.

In Hope’s Dream, Hope must forgive the grandparents who disowned her father in order for her to be able to move on with her life.

In Dearly Beloved, Colleen must forgive her ex-fiance for cheating, her parents for abandoning her and her sisters during a crisis, and Slade must forgive his father for a myriad of sins.

In Christmas and Cannolis, Regina must forgive her father for his actions in sabotaging her newfound love.

As you can see, forgiveness takes many forms and comes about for many reasons. The reason this has been a prevalent theme for me this year is because…I had to forgive someone in my life.

It wasn’t easy. In fact, it was the most difficult thing I ever had to do. I was stuck in a mad, sad, horrible place in my head for the past ten years +, being angry at this person for something that was done to me. Numerous somethings, in fact.

But, one day my husband suggested I forgive this person so I could start to move on with my life. There was no way, I felt, I could do that. But then it dawned on me: if I forgave the person, I could let the anger I harbored go from my life. Forgiving didn’t mean the person and I were going to be hanging out, or chatting one another up on the phone all day. It didn’t mean this person had to be a part of my life. No. Forgiving them was more about me than the person. More about my feelings, my resentments, my inability to move on.

So. I sat down, wrote a list of everything this person had done and then one by one, ticked off each entry and spoke the words “I forgive you” into the universe. The person who needed to hear them, didn’t. But I did.

And you know what? Once I said them, meant them, and then threw the piece of paper away, I stopped being angry. I stopped being resentful.

I haven’t thought about that person since and before the forgiveness I thought about them all the time.

So, is it any wonder I needed to thread forgiveness into the books I was working on at the time I was doling out that forgiveness?
The lesson learned through this all? Forgiveness isn’t for the person who is receiving it, but for the betterment of the person giving it.

Is there someone in your life you should forgive? Think about it. Then think about how your life would change if you did dole out some forgiveness. Think about how it won’t if you don’t.

I’m pretty sure which track you’re going to take on the forgiveness train.
