Happy November and welcome back to NaNoWriMo!

Yes, it’s that time of year when authors of all ilks, walks of life, and publishing status attempt the annual NANOWRIMO ritual of penning 50,000 words ( or more ) in the 30 days of this month. For the seventh year running, I am a participant.

This can be a grueling endeavor for many writers, especially those who don’t have writing full time presently as their career choice. Writing between the office and home, at kids soccer practices, when at the dentist’s office waiting for an appointment are all the norm to most writers who still need to work at alternate jobs to keep food on the table. But even writers who work full time from home can find the prospect of writing a minimum of 1670 words a day – every day – daunting.

The first time I participated in NaNo I was still working full time. Writing that amount every day wasn’t something I’d ever done before. But I accepted the challenge and…did it! I wrote later at night, early in the morning, on lunch break, while dinner cooked. I wrote marathon sessions on the weekends. And it all paid off because at the end of the month I had the rough draft of a 75,000 word novel.

These days I’m afforded the luxury of writing all the time, but I still like the challenge of NaNo because it focuses me and makes me hone in on a specific and measurable word count goal every single day for a month.

Psychological theory tells us it takes about 21 days of consistent behavior to make a habit. Well in 30 that habit should be ingrained.

Writers write. That’s what we do. And making it a habitual part ofyour daily life is beneficial for so many reasons, not the least of which you can be more productive with product, namely, books.

Are NaNoWriMo-ing this year! Good luck if you are.

Go forth and write! ~ Peg

NaNoWriMo 2020 – the year of Covid-writing…maybe

I know…we’re already 9 days into November and NANOWRIMO started on 11.1.2020.

I started on that day, too, I’ve just been too busy to post about joining again this year. And what was I so busy doing, you ask??

WRITING!!! of course!! heehee

This will be my 8th year in a row participating and every single year the book I’ve gotten into first draft during Nano has gone on to be published!! I think that’s so cool, don’t you?

The 2019 book I penned during November is actually releasing on 12.9.202o, and this Wednesday, on my blog, I’ve got the official cover reveal for BAKED WITH LOVE ( A Match Made in Heaven, book 3). I can’t wait for you all to see the cover and read the story. It was such a cathartic write for me and I’m so happy I get to share it for the holiday’s this year.

For a peek at the project from last year, click here: Nano2019

The cover you’ll see was a mock-up I used as a visualization of what I wanted. Check back in here this Wednesday when the real cover will be revealed for the first time.

This year, I’m drafting book 2 in the PRIDE OF BROTHERS, series. This book concerns Keane brother AIDEN and I’m having a ball writing it. Two mismatched characters who have to come together to solve a murder. Woot!! Here’s sneak peek:  Nano2020

And just so you know, the cover for that book is a mock up, too.

If you’re a writer are you participating in NANOWRIMO this year? If so, I wish you luck, focus, and a healthy WIN on November 30th!

Be well, peeps and check back this Wednesday to see the BAKED WITH LOVE cover!

November is here – that means #NANOWRIMO time!

November 1st is a mere two days away and the month kinda snuck up on me this year. I’ve been so busy with all my upcoming releases this month and next, I haven’t done any NANOWRIMO prep yet.

Now, I know you’re thinking that NANOWRIMO is supposed to be a spontaneous writing exercise, where you sit down every day in November and simply write – no editing, no going over what you have written, no correcting any mistakes. Just a month of free-writing your newest book. And it is, just that, for the most part. But I’ve typically done some kind of prep for the month either in planning out where I want the story to ultimately end up, or at least making a Pinterest board of what I think my characters look like so I have a handy and quick visual reference if I need it. And I’m a plotter by nature. This writing-by-the-seat-of-your-pants thing is so…not me.

But this year, as I’ve said…no prep, no plot, no plan.

I’m starting out fresh when I sit down on 11.1.18 to begin writing my 50,000 word minimum. Every year for the past 5 years I’ve done NANOWRIMO and I’ve actually gone on to have all those books traditionally published, so that’s the hope for this year as well. I’m being truthful when I tell you I’m a little nervous about this.

Nervous? Hell, let’s be totally honest: I’m friggin’ terrified!

Stay tuned. We’ll see what happens…

And if you’re doing NANOWRIMO this year and need a writing “buddy,” I’ll help. Add me to you Buddy List. I’m listed under Margaret-Mary Jaeger.

When I’m not obsessing over NANOWRIMO or out doing the publicity tours for my new releases, you’ll find me wiling away the hours here:  Tweet Me//Read Me// Visit Me//Picture Me//Pin Me//Friend Me//Google+Me// Triber// BookMe // Monkey me //Watch me

When typing THE END is only the beginning…..#NaNoWriMo 2017

And so we come to the end of another November. Thanksgiving has come and gone, leaving behind 5-7 pounds on our hips; Black Friday has exited the building with only a few minor scrapes and bumps to our persons; Cyber Monday has crashed and burned, leaving our checking accounts a little lower in the cash flow department.

And, NaNoWriMo has seen another year, end. Another attempt at that 50,000-word minimum tome has come and gone, leaving many writers joyful, others struggling, and the rest of us exhausted and elated simultaneously.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could keep the writing momentum of this month up for all 12 months? Imagine being able to actually write 2-3 books a year. The big names in publishing do it, like Nora Roberts/JD Robb, Jill Shalvis, Sarah Morgan. These writers know the benefit or writing EVERY SINGLE DAY no matter what. If there isn’t blood shedding, the zombie apocalypse approaching, or the world ending in a vortex of wind and rain, these writers write every single day, bar none. No excuses. No whining. No dilly-dallying.

The fire has been stoaked – you’ve already spent the past 30 days writing something every day. Even if you didn’t make the 50,000 mark, you still have more on the page now than you did on November 1, right? So keep going.

I know I am…and will. Pages to write, books to publish. No Excuses.

The work never ends…..

While in the middle of NaNoWriMo2017  I received my proofs for my upcoming April 2018 release CAN’T STAND THE HEAT, book 3 in the WIll Cook For Love Series. Thanksgiving is this week. Christmas is but a calendar-page-turning away. Busy, much?

What’s that expression? When it rains, it pours??

Yesterday I sat – literally SAT – at my desk for 11 hours. 2 Bathroom breaks and one 10  minute stop to have lunch.

Not complaining — never complaining!– about too much writing/editing work. This is what I want my life to be, what I’ve dreamed of. What I wished it could be.

So, yeah. No complaints from this chickita.

(But a little sleep wouldn’t kill me! heehee)

#NaNoWriMo2017….finished, but not done

So, this is the first time in my NaNoWriMo history that I got to the 50,000 word mark in so short a time span. Yesterday, I hit 51,000 + words. Yay, me!

But I’m not done yet. I’ve got miles to go in word count, plot points, characterization, etc, before this little book in officially deemed DONE!

Why did I get to this point so quickly this year when other years I’ve struggled to get to my minimum daily word count?

I think the real reason, aside from plotting ( which I always do) is that this time I actually saw the entire book play out in my mind like a movie, from beginning to end. A movie I really enjoyed watching and one I wanted others to go see ( metaphorically, of course, because you can’t, like, see into my brain – that’s another genre, not romance. HeeHee)

Anyway.

I’m uber motivated to get more words on the page and will continue to track them on the NaNo website. But as far as the NaNoWriMo powers that be feel, I’m a winner.

Winner, WInner, Chicken Dinner!!

Okay, so did I admit I’m tired, too? And punchy with it?

When I’m not getting my word count in you can find me here: Tweet Me//Read Me// Visit Me//Picture Me//Pin Me//Friend Me//Google+Me// Triber// Book Me

A few words here, a few words there….#NaNoWriMo2017

I just realized NaNoWriMo 2017 is half over as of today. Thirty days has September, April, June, and November…. so yeah! Half way.

I know I’ve been plugging along and I’ve been checking on some of my NaNo writing buddies and they all are as well. I’m usually not so far in a novel as I am right now, something  I wanted to stop and think about for a moment.

I write fast. Like I talk, only without the hand gestures. ( heehee), but this year I’m halfway and already at over 40,000 words. You  need a 50,000 minimum to be an official Nano Winner. The NaNO predictor tool says if I keep my current word count up, I’ll finish by this Saturday, Nov. 18. That would be the fastest I’ve ever gotten words on the page for this event.

So what have I done differently this year to write so much faster?

Is it because I was so well prepped with an outline before I started? Nope. I always outline.

Is it because I’m so pumped about this new series that I can’t wait until I sit down to work each day? Kinda, but not the real reason.

So what is it you ask? Well, I’ll tell ya.

In the past ( like up until last month, Heehee) I sat at my desk for hours on end writing, thinking, cyber trolling, writing and thinking some more. For hours. Literally. This year I’ve been plagued with some heavy arthritis and other joint issues and injuries which make sitting for long periods painful for me when I finally get up. So I’ve been writing in times sprints of a half hour to 45 minutes every day. I write for, say, a half hour, then get up and do life stuff ( laundry, cook, run errands) then go back to writing again for about 45 minutes, then life stuff ( gym, channel surf, watch Real Housewives episodes – don’t judge me!) and then back to writing again. I’ve been uber productive doing this, evidenced by the word count. I think my brain  wants to write when I sit down because it’s been denied that while I’ve been life-stuffing. The words flow out and onto the laptop at record speeds and amounts.

Who knew productivity could be so high when times are limited? Well, probably a lot of people – like the ones who work full time and have to do NaNo in their sparse free time, but I certainly didn’t. I’ve always written under the edict BUTT IN CHAIR, FINGERS ON THE KEYBOARD, WRITE. (BICFOTKW)

Usually, I have a cramp in my butt at the end of the day from sitting so much. Not this month.

I’m amending my NaNo edict to BICFOTKWFTM : BUTT IN CHAIR, FINGERS ON THE KEYBOARD, WRITE FOR THIRTY MINUTES.

Heehee.

#NaNoWriMo 2017…progress?

Well, we’re almost a week into NaNoWriMo 2017. I’m doing well and so are most of my Nano Buddies. For a writer, I’ve always felt this event is a great way to either kick-start the writing process if you’ve been stalled, or a motivator to get you writing. Just committing to the continuous 30 days of writing makes anyone a winner in my book. I’ve had all four of the books I’ve written during NaNo go on to be published. Not too bad, right? My 2016 winner Can’t Stand The Heat will be released from Kensington/Lyrical Shine on April 4, 2018,

and my 2015 win, Passion’s Palette

is available now for purchase.

So, if you’re participating in NaNo this month, Yay! Keep on writing and plugging away. Remember – it takes just 7 days for something to become a habit. Buy the end of this week you’ll be in the mindset of writing every single day and that will take you onward into the next months.

#NaNoWriMo2017

Yes, it’s November. You know what that means.

No, not colder days (Brrr), daylight savings time ( a stupid idea), or Thanksgiving.

It’s time for NaNoWriMo.

For the next 30 days, millions of writers around the globe will attempt to bang out 50,000 words in a new novel. Some will succeed. Some will…not.

I hope to succeed. More to come on that.

I can still be found here daily, despite being locked in a cave, typing:
