#SundaySnippet 12.8.19

So I had a new book release this week. TODAY, TOMORROW, ALWAYS dropped on Wednesday and I’ve been so excited with the marvelous reviews I’ve gotten so far. This story truly wrung me out to dry so many times. The emotions of both Cathy, my heroine and Mac, my hero, were so intense that for a few days I had to walk away from the story when I was writing it. Luckily, I always had Nanny Fee to bring me back to center and provide some comic relief.

In this scene, Nanny is providing some interesting advice to Cathy that only a 93 year old uninhibited daughter of Eire could.

I found them huddled together on a sofa in the sunroom. They were both laughing, and Nanny had a hand flirtatiously placed over Frayne’s forearm. His laughter, rich, deep, and husky, was a sound I could have listened to all day long. Hell, all year long. A tingling sensation tripped up my spine when his eyes narrowed, practically disappearing from his face as he smiled. He threw back his head and howled at whatever my grandmother was saying.

It was delightful to see him relaxed and happy, and I have to admit, my heart stuttered a bit when he brought Nanny’s gnarled hand to his lips and pressed a sweet kiss against her knuckles.

“Number One, all done, are ya?” Nanny asked.
I came into the room, a grin tugging on my lips.

“Nanny, what tall tales have you been telling Mr. Frayne? I could hear the both of you laughing from the hallway.”

“Ah, lass, nothing bad, to be sure. Merely sharin’ a few simple stories about me time touring.”

“Oh, good Lord.” I knew exactly what she’d told him. Nanny’s days as a concert pianist were legendary in our family. Legendary and naughty. She’d had affairs with at least two dukes, one baron, and a smattering of lesser-titled men throughout the royal houses of Europe before coming back to Heaven and marrying her second husband. And then her third. And fourth, who was, thankfully, the last.

“Your grandmother has led an extraordinary life,” Frayne said, the light in his eyes bright and clear. “Tales of her touring life would make for a terrific book.”

“Salacious, more than anything,” I said.

“Don’t be gettin’ any notions to write about me escapades, young man.” She swatted his arm with a grandmotherly thwack. “If I ever decide to write about me life, I’ll be doing the tellin’, not someone else.”

“I’d be thrilled and honored to be your scribe,” Frayne said. “Anytime. Simply say the word.”

“Ah, go on with ya.” She swatted his arm again. “I expect the two of ya will be off to dinner now. Seldrine okay?” she asked me.

“She’s fine. Lucas is with her, taking her through everything she needs to be prepared for.”

“She’s a strong lass. Well…” She sighed deep and, because this was Nanny, theatrically. “Off with ya both now. Go enjoy a good meal and you”—she pointed at Frayne—“don’t be forgetting I want a full report on Robert when you’re all done with your research.”

“That’s a promise,” he told her.

“Good. Now, give us a kiss and run along.”
I wasn’t surprised when Frayne bent and bussed her cheek.
“And you,” she said when I bent to do the same. “I want to hear all about this event Olivia told me you’re signed up for. I want all the deets, as the kids say.”

I nodded, my cheeks scorching.

#CyberMonday is tomorrow…Are you ready?

When I was a kid 175 years ago there was BLACK FRIDAY and then regular shopping days until Christmas.

Welcome to the new world, peeps.

CYBER MONDAY starts at midnight tonight and Cyberspace is predicted to be the most jammed it’s ever been this year with people looking for great sales on gifts.

Well, because the marketing end of the publishing business never takes a day off, I, too, am offering up  some great ( in my humble opinion!) sales items. 2 of my books are marked down to just 99 cents on Amazon, Book, and Itunes.

CHRISTMAS & CANNOLIS, my award-winning San Valentino holiday romcom is on sale for 2 weeks here: Amazon  Nook  Itunes

With Christmas season in full swing, baker Regina San Valentino is up to her elbows in cake batter and cookie dough. Between running her own business, filling her bursting holiday order book, and managing her crazy Italian family, she’s got no time to relax, no room for more custom cake orders, and no desire to find love. A failed marriage and a personal tragedy have convinced her she’s better off alone. Then a handsome stranger enters her bakery begging for help. Regina can’t find it in her heart to refuse him.

Connor Gilhooly is in a bind. He needs a specialty cake for an upcoming fundraiser and puts himself—and his company’s reputation—in Regina’s capable hands. What he doesn’t plan on is falling for a woman with heartbreak in her eyes or dealing with a wise-guy father and a disapproving family.

Can Regina lay her past to rest and trust the man who’s awoken her heart?

And my indiebook IT’S A TRUST THING in on sale exclusively at Amazon.

Nell Newbery has trust issues. It’s hard to trust when you’re the daughter of a fallen financial scion who bilked people out of billions. Nell’s done everything in her power to keep away from men who see her as their ticket to fortune and fame. All she wants to do is run her ultra-successful business, HELPFUL HUNKS, in peace.

But it wouldn’t hurt to find a guy who doesn’t know a thing about her father’s felonious past; one she can give her heart to and trust it won’t come back to her battered, bruised, and broken.

Is Charlie Churchill that guy? On the surface he seems perfect, all polished manners and quiet mirth. Nell’s convinced he knows nothing about her, other than she likes superhero movies and views junk food as a food group.

Can she trust him to be what he appears to be? Or is he just pretending?

For Nell, trust is everything in life…and in love.

So, if you are shopping in your jammies, haven’t brushed your hair or teeth yet, and are looking for a great book deal for the Romance book reader on your holiday list – or if you just want to gift yourself a good book – I hope you’ll take advantage of my sale.

Be well and happy shopping!
Until next time ~ Peg

#LongandShortReviews #WednesdayBloggingChallenge 11.27.19

The day before Thanksgiving and as I get the bread and cookies ready for tomorrow’s feast, I’m pondering on today’s topic: BOOKS THAT INFLUENCED MY LIFE. I’m wondering if this can be a positive influence and/or a negative one.  Hmmmm….

I’m gonna go with the positive.

  1. THE LITTLE ENGINE THAT COULD.  I know I’ve stated at least a million times in previous blog posts that this is one of my favorite books of all time. The reason it is is also the same reason it has influenced my life. Self Motivation, positive affirmations, and believing in yourself are major concepts in my daily life. This book is the best example of all three of those traits rolled into one message: that little engine believed in himself enough to take on a monumental task, armed with just determination and self-belief, and accomplished his goal. As a child that was a profound message that I could do anything I set my mind to. As an adult, the message broadened: I could accomplish anything I not only set my mind to, but if I truly believed in myself, nothing was impossible in life. To a shy, introverted, bookworm, that concept was and is huge.
  • Under the Banner of Heaven.I read this book in less than 2 days which, believe me, I never do for a non-fiction work. But the story and the way it is told was so compelling, I had to finish it. This extraordinary piece of investigative journalism takes readers inside America’s isolated Mormon Fundamentalist communities. At the core of the book are brothers Ron and Dan Lafferty, who insist they received a commandment from God to kill a blameless woman and her baby girl. Beginning with a meticulously researched account of this appalling double murder, Krakauer constructs a multi-layered, bone-chilling narrative of messianic delusion, polygamy, savage violence, and unyielding faith. Along the way he uncovers a shadowy offshoot of America’s fastest growing religion, and raises provocative questions about the nature of religious belief. I was changed forever in my view of how religious fanaticism can influence people to do evil things in the name of God.
  • Pride and Prejudice. This is a no-brainer because from the very first time I read it I knew one day I wanted to write a romance novel. This book opened up an entire new world for me – romantic literature/fiction – and I’ve never looked back.
  • Naked In Death. The very first Eve Dallas/Roarke novel. This book -and the subsequent 49 – changed the way I wrote. In the past, I’d penned one standalone novel at a time. Reading this series taught me the benefits of writing series romance and how to keep readers invested in the characters from story to story.

Let’s see what some of the other authors in this blog challenge have to say about the books that have influenced them: L&SR

Have a Happy Thanksgiving, peeps.

Until next time ~ Peg

A #99cent #ebooksale, a kiss, and Christmas – what could be better?

So my first San Valentino Christmas book is on sale now for 99cents! A KISS UNDER THE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS tells the story of Gia San Valentino and her quest for a life of her own.

Can a kiss under the Christmas lights lead to a forever love?

With Christmas just a few weeks away, Gia San Valentino, the baby in her large, loud, and loving Italian family, yearns for a life and home of her own with a husband and bambini she can love and spoil. The single scene doesn’t interest her, and the men her well-meaning family introduce her to aren’t exactly the happily-ever-after kind.

Tim Santini believes he’s finally found the woman for him, but Gia will take some convincing she’s that girl. A misunderstanding has her thinking he’s something he’s not.

Can a kiss stolen under the Christmas lights persuade her to spend the rest of her life with him?

Available at Amazon // Nook // ibooks for just 99 cents!

A Runaway Reality TV star, life choices, and the decisions we make…..

If you’re lucky, once in a lifetime you meet someone you just know you were destined to meet. Author CHERI ALLAN is one of those people for me. We met when I joined my local RWA chapter and from the first time we spoke, I was drawn to her humor, her perfect sense of self, her warmth, and her talent as a writer. Cheri’s got a new romance book out and she graciously spoke with me recently about how she came to write it. Sit back and meet my friend and ubertalented author, Cheri Allan as she tells us a bit about THE RUNAWAY CUPCAKE QUEEN.
Cheri…..
THE RUNAWAY CUPCAKE QUEEN

Just give me a minute…

You know those moments in life when you want to press the pause button just to catch your breath? That was a rhetorical question, peeps. I’ve had three straight years of pause-button-pounding moments. I don’t know an adult out there that isn’t jamming that pause button like a toddler hopefully clicking an empty Pez dispenser. As a woman firmly positioned as the squish of the sandwich generation, my desire for a moment to just catch my breath spilled over into writing THE RUNAWAY CUPCAKE QUEEN. So if there’s a lot of wine drinking and hysterical laughter, you’ll know that’s hella authentic writing right there.

Sure, I may not be an ex-beauty-queen or reality dating show contestant, but the theme of “what if I had the opportunity to run away for a little while?” is central to THE RUNAWAY CUPCAKE QUEEN. Helen Walker finds herself fleeing paparazzi and hiding in the back of a car in a dimly-lit parking lot–definitely a “just give me a minute” moment–when she suddenly gets an opportunity to escape.

Spoiler alert: she grabs that chance with both hands and her unnaturally white teeth.

What follows, though, is a road trip of discovery as Helen and Jack find what’s missing in each other and what they’d buried in themselves. I adore this book, because it was my chance to breathe and laugh again despite the craziness of this life, and I hope it’s your chance to get away for a while, too. So, grab a cupcake and maybe a glass of your finest boxed wine, and escape to your happy place.

When life and love take a detour…

Helen Walker, aka the Alabama Cupcake Queen, is poised to be the next star of TV’s most popular dating show, Happily Ever After. But after being dumped on last season’s live finale, she’s not sure she can take any more humiliation. All she ever wanted was to escape small-town Alabama, the grief of losing her mother, and an engagement to the cookie-cutter southern boy everybody loves. It all holds as much appeal as vanilla buttercream on stale cake.

When a reality TV show turns Jack Adams’ hometown into a three-ring circus, he leaps at the chance to escape for a long weekend in Pennsylvania at his best friend’s wedding. A solo drive and time away are just what he needs to regroup and get his derailed life back on track.

Everything changes when Jack discovers an ex-beauty-queen hiding in the back of his car, fleeing responsibility, paparazzi, and her future. She convinces him to take her along, but how can he figure out his life when his new passenger is determined to avoid her own? Together they discover that a road trip of detours can sometimes be the journey home.

EXCERPT:

“If we’re going to be spending the next few days together,” he said, “we’re going to have to come up with some ground rules. Number one: stop overthinking everything.Number two: stop trying to fix me. I’m not broken. And number three…”

“Yes?”

“I want it clear from the outset that if I kiss you, it won’t be because I’m trying to get back at Jenna or trying to distract you from talking. It’s because you’re hot, and I’m alive, and I want to.”

The air sucked out of her lungs with each word that passed over his lips, and she stood there, her feet glued to the pavement, winded and light-headed and incandescently hopeful.

“Oh?” she said, her body leaning toward his of its own accord.

His gaze dropped to her mouth which flooded with anticipation.

“Just so we’re clear,” he said.

“Got it.” Her mouth parted as the air grew light and fast in her lungs. “Are you gonna kiss me now?”

Book trailer for It’s A Trust Thing….

I’ve made so many great friends and met so many wonderful writers and people since I started my writing journey. Nancy Fraser is one of them. Not only is she an award winning writer, she’s also a damn fine graphic producer and artist. She made my book trailer to Dirty Damsels and did such a  great job I asked her to do one for my 11.1.19 release of It’s a Trust Thing. I think it captures the essence of the book perfectly. Have a gander:

Isn’t it great!!!??

Remember, It’s a Trust Thing is up for pre-order right now and will be available ONLY in Kindle and KU. And if you haven’t read DIRTY DAMSELS yet, let me whet your appetite with Nancy’s trailer for that book, too! Hee hee

#LongandshortReviews 8.7.19 #Wednesdaybloggingchallenge

Books I loved but never wrote reviews for is today’s #L&SR topic. I had to think about this one. Really think.

In no order, here are the books I loved, wished I’d reviewed, but didn’t — for whatever reason!

  1. The Little Engine that Could. Best book about self motivation ever published.
  2. Write Naked, by Jennifer Probst. A very well written, detailed road map on what not to do – and do! – in the publishing business. I carried the print book copy with me from NH to a Denver conference just so Jennifer could autograph it for me.
  3. New York to Dallas. JD Robb. In my humble opinion the best IN DEATH book. Why I never wrote a review is a mystery, considering I’ve mentioned it in about 50 blogs as being my favorite addition to the series!
  4. Shanna by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss. My first “adult” romance, i.e. one that had SEX in it!

#teaserTuesday

You could have guessed where today’s #TeaserTuesday was coming from before you even clicked on my blog, couldn’t you? hee hee.

Here’s a little snippet of conversation between Ella and Buddy that I love, which is kinda good since I wrote it!

“I wasn’t sure you’d come,” he said when I got to the table. A weird sense of déjà vu crept up my neck as I slid into the booth across from him without touching him. Once I was settled he sat back down

“I debated with myself about whether I should,” I admitted.

The waitress shot over to the table, took my coffee order and left. Silence shifted between us, until I broke it. “How did you find out where I live?”

“Aunt Cal. She was worried when you left so suddenly. When I dropped her off at a cocktail party, she ordered me to make sure you were okay, gave me your address and, well, here we are.”

“Oh.”

You could have sliced the air around us. It was rife and thick with tension, silence, and in my case, worry.

“Ella,” Buddy finally said, on a sigh. He folded his hands on top of the table and a quick, hot flash of them trailing across my naked skin popped into my head. “At least now I know your name.”

My gaze shot to his face, registered the wry, almost shy smile across his lips.

“You knew my name.”

“No, I didn’t. It was only after I woke up the next morning I realized it.”

I frowned. “But you said my name. Twice that I can remember.”

His own eyebrows lifted. “No I didn’t.”

“You called me Cynderella. Once in the penthouse and then at Diablo.”Shock takes many forms on a face. Buddy’s was the classic kind: jaw dropping, mouth falling open, eyes bugging wide with disbelief.

“Your name is Cinderella? For real?”

I get this reaction a lot. “It’s spelled with a “y” but, yes. If you didn’t know it, why did you call me that?”

With a shake of his head, he trailed a hand down his temple to rest on the back of his neck. “Sweetheart, the first time I saw you, you were cleaning the fireplace and your cheek was covered in soot. I wiped it away with my handkerchief. Calling you Cinderella was a joke, said in the moment.”

A little niggle of uneasiness danced in my tummy. “What about at the club?”

His beautiful mouth twitched at the corners. “I wasn’t certain it was you until I got closer. The name just popped out. You never told me your real name. Not once.”

Through the Red Door is #0nsale Get your copy today!

I love when I find a great book. I love it even more when the author is one of my Wild Rose Press Sistahs!   And the best? When that great book by that fab author is ON SALE!!!! Sadira Stone is having such a sale!

99-Cent Sale! Through the Red Door, Book One in the Book Nirvana series, is just 99 cents (eBook only) on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and iTunes from May 31st through June 13th.

Fans of steamy contemporary romance, bookshops, and sexy historical artwork will love this tale of new beginnings after grief.

Blurb:

Letting him inside could be her salvation…or her undoing.

Clara Martelli clings to Book Nirvana, the Oregon bookshop she and her late husband Jared built together. When rising rents and corporate competition threaten its survival, her best hope is their extensive erotica collection, locked behind a red door. In dreams and signs, her dead husband tells her it’s time to open that door and move on. When a dark and handsome stranger’s powerful magnetism jolts her back to life and he wants a look at the treasures of that secret room, she can’t help but want to show him more.

Professor Nick Papadopoulos is looking for historical erotica. Book Nirvana’s collection surpasses his wildest dreams, and so does its lovely owner. A widower, he understands Clara’s battle with guilt, but their searing chemistry is too strong to resist. Besides, he will only be in town for two weeks, not long enough for her to see beyond the scandal that haunts his past.

Here’s a peek inside:

Clara and Jared were adventurous lovers, but this was beyond anything they’d tried, or even imagined. She turned the book sideways and peered closer at the drawing. Something touched her shoulder and, startled, she squeaked like a little girl and slammed the book shut.

Beside her stood Nick, the smutty professor, holding a plate with two scones. Was that a blush coloring his chiseled cheeks? With his deep olive complexion, it was hard to tell. She lowered her gaze and found herself looking right at his crotch.

Damn it!

With no safe place to direct her gaze, she closed her eyes and took a deep breath.

“Sorry, Clara. Beautiful women bring out my devilish side. Please forgive me.” He slid a new scone onto her empty plate, then sat beside her. “I guess Shunga isn’t everyone’s cup of tea.”

“Shunga?”

Nick nodded. “This type of painting or woodblock print. There’s usually a funny text to go with it.” He balanced the book between them, resting on the arms of their two chairs, then glanced at her, an eyebrow raised.

Okay, Clara, time to put on your big girl panties. You can handle this.

She nodded.

Nick flipped to a new page. “The beautiful costumes and hair arrangements date from the Edo era, roughly the 1600s through the mid-1800s. And here’s the text.” He pointed to columns of delicate Oriental writing.

“Can you read it?”

“Not very well. I have a friend here at the university who can help with the translations. This really is an extraordinary book.” He sipped his coffee and flipped the page.

“Are their, um, private parts always so large?”

He shot her another devilish grin. “Always. You know, it’s funny. In European artwork, male genitals are often unusually small, compared to…” He glanced down at his own lap.

She followed his gaze, then jerked her eyes away. Her voice creaked like a twelve-year-old boy’s. “Yes, I’ve—uh—I’ve noticed.”

“But in Shunga, all the genitals are outsized.”

“Doesn’t that scare women away?”

“On the contrary—these drawings were presented in ‘Pillow Books’ designed to instruct young couples in the art of love.”
