#Author Jeny Heckman and her new release THE WARRIOR’S PROGENY

Hey kids – you know, sometimes you meet a person who just touches your soul in ways you can’t describe. They walk into your life one day and you just know you’re going to connect on a some level. That’s the way I felt when I met, in person, my Wild Rose Press sistah Jeny Heckman last year in NYC at the RWA conference. She is a ray of light, so sweet, funny, and smart. Just check out her bio picture, below. It depicts her personality to the max!! Plus, she’s a talented writer and I am thrilled she’s here today to tell you about her newest release. THE WARRIOR’S PROGENY.

And it drops, today! To say I’m thrilled she’d spending release day with me is true!

I’m gonna let her tell you all about it, but I]ll just say…you’ll want to read this book!

Here’s Jeny…

Hello all, thank you so much for joining me today and to the ever delightful Ms. Peggy Jaeger, goddess among all women, thank you for hosting me on your blog!

I’m thrilled to be here. Today is the release of my new fantasy romance novel, The Warrior’s Progeny. Warrior’s is the second book in my Heaven & Earth series and picks up about six months after, The Sea Archer, ends.

The basic gist of the Heaven & Earth series:

It’s been some time after Titanomachy, the ten-year battle between the Greek Titans and Olympian gods. The Olympians have reigned supreme and incarcerated those that challenged them. The greatest of these is Cronus, ruler of the Titans. He is also the father and Grandfather to most of the victors. Humiliated and defeated, Cronus swears retribution and manipulates several key people into creating a prophecy to doom his son, Zeus, and all those that vanquished him. Thus, restoring him to power, he will destroy his enemies and release the last deadly plagues upon the mortal, modern-day world.

However, Themis, the Oracle of Delphi, attempts to establish a caveat before the prophecy is completed. From her efforts, the modern-day descendants of each of the Olympians can fight Cronus and defeat him by joining the quest. The only problem… most modern-day individuals don’t believe in mythology or mythical Greek gods, so how could they possibly be the descendants of them?

In the first book, The Sea Archer, the foundation was set, and the prophecy began its countdown. Everything was new and confusing. In, The Warrior’s Progeny, Cronus and Zeus begin to understand their powers and how they can affect our world and the characters begin to understand what’s happening and why.

Writing this series has been so much fun… challenging but very fun! Wanting to stay as true as I can to Greek mythology and all its devout followers, I also want to put my own spin on the tales and behind-the-scenes no one ever talks about. The Greek gods are fallible, and the human condition is a puzzle.

People have asked me about my characters and how I get them to be so life-like. I’ve read a lot of romance novels, and one my biggest pet-peeves is heaving breasts and throbbing members that speak in a stereotypical manner, defying all reality. People speak in pauses -they interrupt each other- they trip over things and sometimes sex and romance is very awkward and uncomfortable. So, I like to write that.

My characters are chosen carefully and there are many subtle inferences to the gods in the names, demeanor and occupations. For instance, in Warrior’s the heroine’s name is Lilly. Lilies are the sacred flower of the Greek goddess, Hera, the heroine’s ancestor. Hera is the goddess of marriage, and Lilly’s story had to focus on marriage as one of the obstacles both mortal and goddess must overcome in their quest, if they are to forestall the prophecy.

Insider note on my characters: My grandfather’s name was Bert Raymond Bailey. Before, The Sea Archer, was published my grandpa said he wanted his name in the book. I promised him a variation of his name would appear in every book I’d write. So, be on the lookout for Ray, in this book.

I’d like to thank you so much for taking the time out to join me on Peggy’s blog today. I do a lot of giveaways and promotions, not to mention give some behind-the-scene details, so sign up for my newsletter to stay apprised of all things Heaven & Earth.

Have a very blessed day!

Title: The Warrior’s Progeny

Warrior’s Progeny Book Trailer:

If love dies, can it be reborn…only stronger?

Blurb:

Colton Stone is a newly traded tight end whose reputation is as battered as his football helmet. When he receives a vacation invitation from his new teammates, he accepts. There he collides with Dr. Lillian Morgan, a pediatric cardiovascular surgeon, and doesn’t know what to think.

A widow with two children, Lilly is looking forward to her friends’ wedding. When she meets Colton Stone, his arrogant attitude only makes her long for the love she took for granted. Lilly struggles between letting go of her perfect past for an uncertain future.

Strange events occur, out of the realm of normal consciousness. When black energy touches their world Colt and Lilly become the pawns of the immortal Greek gods. Is the love developing between them natural, or part of a larger prophecy?

EXCERPT

Colt’s body temperature heated until his helmet, now that of a Trojan, melted and became part of his skull. Painful, thick, fire plumes ignited from the sides of his head and curved toward the sky, until they solidified in a solid line down the middle of the helmet. Black snake-like smoke wafted up from the earth and encircled his ankles and wrists, locking him into place.

The smoke turned into bindings and massaged tentacles over his chest and phallus.

He looked over at Lilly, who now knelt helpless as her skin became dusky, then turned a brilliant shade of blue. However, the color became an iridescent hue that reminded him of something just outside the confines of his mind. Her skin bubbled, separated, and formed into thousands of compact hairs. Small points protruded from her shoulders and down her arms until they freed themselves from the surface of her skin, as she screamed. Several long, hollow shoots grew, lengthening into the elegant, arching rods, as more buds sprouted from them and turned into thready feathers. As the feathers lengthened, green and blue eyes opened in intervals. At a screech of transformation, Lilly turned into a peacock, whose tail plumed out in a perfect fan. A feathered diadem lifted from her skull and the beautiful eyes all blinked at him. He wanted to mate with her, devour her, possess her, and bellowed out an unearthly warrior battle cry. Breaking his bonds, he charged at her.

A little about Jeny Heckman

Award-winning author, Jeny Heckman, was born in Bellingham, Washington, and was the youngest of two daughters. She met her husband, Jeff, in August 1992, and eloped three months later, at Magen’s Bay, on St. Thomas, U.S.V.I.

She wrote her first book, the Catch, in a few short months but took several years before she gained the courage to self-publish it at her son’s urging, and her love for writing began.

In 2018, Jeny knew her next project would be a series that showed adults could have adventures in the paranormal-fantasy genre too. So, she created the Heaven & Earth series, a story of doomed Greek gods and their only salvation, their modern-day descendants. Her first book of the series, the Sea Archer, was immediately picked up by the New York publishing house, the Wild Rose Press, and won, “Best in Category” from the 2018 Chanticleer International Book Awards.

In the year 2020, Jeny released, Dancing Through Tears, a short story from the anthology, Australia Burns: Volume Two, highlighting the Route 91 massacre from the perspective of one family at the concert, and at Mandalay Bay. She also intends to release, the Warrior’s Progeny, and Dee’s Cornucopia, in 2020, continuing the Heaven & Earth Series.

Jeny lives in Washington State with her husband of over twenty-eight years.

A HUNDRED LIES by Jean M. Grant available for preorder at 99cents!

My lovely and talented Wild Rose sistah JEAN M. GRANT is visiting today, telling us all about the third book in her trilogy, A HUNDRED LIES, which is up for preorder right now at the incredible price of 99cents! Jean shared with me a little about the road to publication for this third book and I thought it might be nice to hear about a writer’s process from an exceptional writer!

Jean….

Tying a Trilogy Together

What seemed ages ago, but in the grand scheme of life, was only about 6 or 7 years ago, I sat down to write another manuscript. With three “practice” novels written but shelved, I dug into a new story. I changed my time period from the 12th to the 13th century (the heart of the Scottish Wars of Independence), wove a mystical element into the storyline, and on some invaluable advice from an agent, worked the heck out of that story to give it twists and turns to excite my reader.

In 2017, A Hundred Kisses was born with the publishing house The Wild Rose Press. But my medieval muse was not done with me yet. Characters like to pester an author, and the backstory of the heroine’s parents nagged at me. And guess what? When I looked at historical events thirty years prior to the timeline of the first book (which was 1296, and I looked back to 1263), lo and behold, it was a time rife with Norse-Scottish turmoil. The end of the Viking reign to boot. Oh yeah, there be Vikings! Ahh. I had fun with it. That story came forth in a flurry, and I found myself contemplating the third book even before I finished that manuscript, in what was now becoming a trilogy. A Hundred Breaths (the prequel, and book one) released in 2019. However, readers wanted to know what happened after the HEA in A Hundred Kisses (the middle book). Fast-forward to 1322, a time after the Scottish Wars of Independence, and this August, A Hundred Lies will be in bookstores.

I know, silly me. I wrote the middle book first, then the prequel, then the sequel. Hey, I had to follow that muse. Now I have a trilogy.

Each story is a standalone, but they can be read in or out of order. Each book weaves a tale of a MacCoinneach family member gifted but afflicted with a mystical ability that comes at a cost: to heal but to lose your own breaths in return, to feel auras/lifebloods but to feel others’ pain, and to portend the future but to be unable to prevent the visions unless refraining from touch. In addition to the mystical elements, there is plenty of medieval history: conquering Norse, Scottish lore, Ancient mythical communities, and invading English…lairds, ladies, warriors, castles, journeys upon horseback, dragon ships, fortune-tellers, rat-catchers…all the goodies of medieval Scotland.

Will our mystical family hone their gifts for good, escape curses, discover mercy, find home, and find love? I’ll give you a hint: I like HEAs.

Psst…the final book in the trilogy is on pre-order sale now at an e-book price of $0.99. The first two books are out in e-book, paperback, and audiobook format. A Hundred Lies will be out as an audiobook later this year.

BLURB:

1322, Scotland

Rosalie Threston’s fortune-telling lies have caught up with her. Uprooted yet again, she’s on the run from a ruthless English noblewoman. She flees to Scotland and seeks refuge in the arms of a laird’s son who happens to be a real Seer.

A bloody past and inevitable future plague Domhnall Montgomerie. He avoids physical contact with others to ease the painful visions. When an accidental touch reveals only delight, he wonders if Rose is the key to silencing the Sight.

Mystical awakening unravels with each kiss. But can Domhnall embrace his gift in time to save her life, even it means exposing her lies?

 Excerpt

She drew his hand into her palm. Her pulse drummed in her ears. Breathe, Rose. Breathe. His fingers trembled in her hand but neither of them released the look. She tried to convey trust and understanding with her own gentle smile. When he seemed settled, she turned her gaze to his hand. After a pause, she said, “It is as I said. Air is your element.”

“What else do you see?” He leaned in, closer. Sweat, sage, hmmm…male? Was male a scent?

Feeling his eyes upon hers, she continued to scrutinize, drawing light touches over the mounds. “You’re somewhat content, though you spend hours alone to get away?”

He held a straight face. “Easy enough facts to guess. I’m a watchman. Fortune-tellers are good in their ploy.” She refrained from arguing. He was on the defense. Understandable. Most people were. He was correct after all. She stroked his fingers. Pretended to examine. His hands were ice-cold.

All right, memory. Time to shine. The marketplace fire, something from his youth. Domhnall liked animals. Seemed to not like fire or touch. She chanced the next statement. “Something in your past upsets you.” Again, stone-faced. At least his hand had stopped trembling.

She would throw out statements until one stuck. Had she been incorrect in her eavesdropping? Surely the servants had been gossiping about Domhnall.

He chewed his lip. Held her gaze.

She paused and pushed the candle closer. “To see better.”

He flinched.

Yes. Fire. It bothered him.

#teasertuesday 7.14.2020

I’m on track to get my first edits back today for the third book in my MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN series, BAKED WITH LOVE, so I figured this was a good time to put out a little something from that for today’s Teaser Tuesday.

Book 3 is Maureen’s Story, the inn keeper, baker, youngest sister, and the moral compass of the family.

Oh, my God, Maureen.” My sister Colleen’s voice rose a good two octaves from its normal sultry timbre. “Are those…penis pops?”

“Lower your voice,” I told her as I continued to pipe buttercream roses on the cupcakes I’d made for tomorrow’s wedding. “My entire inn doesn’t need to know I’ve got those”—I grinned—“hardening in my kitchen.”

“Why, in the name of all that’s holy are there”—she counted out loud—“seven chocolate candies in the shape of male genitalia on your counter?”

“Because your bride’s maid of honor special ordered them for the attendants. I tried to talk her out of it, but she paid me triple to make them and wouldn’t take no for an answer. Be happy there are only seven. She wanted one for each of the thirty females on the guest list. I was able to talk her out of it by promising to make those”—I pointed my chin toward the candy—“for the bridesmaids. She’s going to present them tonight after the rehearsal. Thinks they’ll be, quote, a scream, unquote.”

My wedding planner and getting-bigger-by-the-second pregnant sister plopped down onto one of my kitchen chairs and sighed. Heavily.

“Oh, good Lord. Thanks for the head’s up. I’ll make sure the moms are nowhere in sight when she gives them out. I don’t relish having to listen to one more complaint about this wedding. I’ve had enough for the past week to last me until Princess here”—she patted her round tummy—“is off to college.”

I flicked her a glance and said, “Put your feet up, Coll. I can see how swollen they are from here.”

With more effort than was probably warranted – she is after all, related to our grandmother, who corners the market on theatricality – she hefted her feet onto an opposing kitchen chair then extended and flexed her toes a few times. This time her sigh was thick with fatigue, and if I wasn’t mistaken, pain.

“I can’t believe you’re still wearing those ridiculous heels when you’re almost nine months along,” I chided. “Standing in them all day can’t be good for the baby. Or your back.”

“Stop scolding me.” It was impossible not to miss the whine in her voice. “I refuse to take advice from someone who thinks flipflops are the greatest invention known to the shoe wearing population of the world. For the record, my back is fine and my feet don’t hurt.”

“No, they just look like flesh colored water balloons.”

“When did you turn so mean? You’re usually the supportive, quiet sister.”

In ordinary circumstances this was true. But with my ready-to-pop and three-inch heel wearing sister, I was more than willing to make an exception.

I piped the last rose on the final cupcake, laid my pastry bag down on the counter, and took a good look at her. Camera ready face with her professionally polished outfit perfect and not a tendril of red hair out of place, the middle of my three sisters looked something she rarely did: tired. With her hands folded over her protruding belly, she’d dropped her chin to her chest and closed her eyes.

The snarky remark I was going to make about the benefits of wearing flats died before I gave it breath.

Since lunch service had finished a half hour ago and my serving staff was done with cleanup, Colleen and I were alone in my kitchen. I put the kettle on for tea and asked, “Did you have lunch?”

When she lifted her head her eyes took a moment to clear before they focused on me, lending credence to the fact she was tired. And maybe more than simply tired.

“There’s a salad waiting for me at the office. Charity got one for me while I was with the florist.”

“Text her back and tell her to put it in the fridge. I’ll make you something to eat.”

While she contacted her assistant, I plated the luncheon salad I’d concocted for today’s menu, then put half a ham and cheese sandwich into my Panini maker.

“Eat this until the sandwich is done.” I handed her the salad and a bottled water.

“What is it?”

“Spinach, cranberries, walnuts, raisins and carrots with a light pomegranate dressing and shaved Parmesan.”

Colleen shoved a forkful in and groaned. “Oh. My. God. Honestly, Maureen, you should have your own cooking show. This is insane.”

“Everything she makes is insane,” a male voice said from the doorway.

It was a voice I knew well, since its owner was a frequent inhabitant of my dreams. Husky and deep, with a dash of just woken gravel, it could cajole a lover into seduction or cut off a criminal at the knees.

Fortunately, I’d never been the latter. But I’d fantasized about being the former for years.

“Truth,” Colleen said around a mouthful of salad. “Why are you here?” she asked Heaven’s Chief of Police, Lucas Alexander before I could. “Somebody call a cop?”

Lucas flicked his moss green, heavily hooded eyes from my sister to me, one corner of his mouth tilting up. I actually had to contract my pelvic floor muscles whenever he looked at me so I wouldn’t melt to the floor in a pool of want. My ninety-three year old grandmother, Nanny Fee, calls this girding your loins. As far as a descriptive phrase for the maneuver, it’s a good one.

“You got a minute?” he asked me.

“A few. Then I have to get the dining room reading for tonight’s rehearsal dinner.” I pulled Colleen’s sandwich from the press when the bell tinged. Lucas, always comfortable in my kitchen, moved to lean a hip against the counter and then halted mid stride.

I knew the cause of his sudden stop and bit down on the inside of my cheek while I handed Colleen her plate. She caught my eye, and my stifled grin, and realized the cause. Her lips lifted in a wicked grin.

Lucas cleared his throat. “Are those–? Wait. What, what are those? Are they…?”

“Are they what?” Colleen asked, innocence dripping from her voice, at the same time I asked, “Want one?”

Lucas spun around to find the two of us staring at him, expressions blanked, and waiting for him to continue.

He huffed out a breath and dragged a hand through his hair. “Never mind,” he said, with a nervous shake of his head and shoulders.

Colleen glanced up at me, winked, and then took a huge bite of her Panini. “Oh, good Lord, Mo.”

I smiled and told her, “You’re welcome,” before I said to Lucas, “What’s up?”

He cocked his head in a come-with-me move.

In the breezeway separating my private kitchen from the commercial one I used for the inn I own and cook in, Lucas stopped, bit down on a corner of his mouth, and twirled his hat in his hands. If I didn’t know better, I’d think he was nervous, but nerves weren’t an emotion common to this man. His army training had taught him how to remain calm in any crisis, cool under the most volatile of situations. I’d never even heard him raise his voice in all the years I’d known him.

I repeated my question.

“I need a favor.”

I rolled my hand in a go on gesture.

“Cathy might have mentioned Robert’s coming to spend a few weeks with me. Nora’s getting remarried this weekend and then leaving on a long honeymoon.”

I nodded. “I’d heard that, but not from Cathy.” To the question in his eyes I said, “Nanny told me the other day when I dropped off her scone delivery at the nursing home. She heard it from Tillie Carlisle who got it from Maeve Capshaw, whose granddaughter, Olivia, told her. Nanny said Olivia was the one who introduced Nora to her intended at a divorced-and-looking event she’d hosted.”

“Jesus.” Lucas shook his head again. “Small towns.”

I couldn’t help but smile. “A curse and a blessing, as Cathy is fond of saying.”

Intrigued? Hee hee, me too. Here’s a mockup of the cover. I don’t know what it’s really gonna be yet, but this is one I use while I’m writing.

And did you know that book 2, TODAY, TOMORROW, ALWAYS has some exciting news? Not only is it a finalist in the GRDWA contest in the Long Contemporary category,

But it’s also just been named a 2020 RECOMMENDED READ from AuthorShout

Exciting times, peeps.

Until next time ~ Peg

Another fabulous addition to the One Scoop or Two series – RAINBOW SPRINKLES by #Author D.V.Stone

If you’re looking for some great summer reading, look no further than the Wild Rose Press. Their newest series – ONE SCOOP OR TWO – is already chockfull of fabulous stories that can be read on a hot and lazy afternoon while eating an ice cream cone.

Today, I’ve got WRP sistah, D.V.Stone with me, talking about how she came to write her addition to the series, RAINBOW SPRINKLES. Once you read about this story, I guarantee you’ll want to add it to your summer 2020 tbr list!

Here’s D.V….

How could I not write a book about Ice Cream?

Once upon a time in the state of confusion called New Jersey, my husband and I decided to buy a local ice cream shop and grill. We made our own super-premium flavors, including our signature New Jersey Black Bear. This was a vanilla base with raspberry chips, and truffles sprinkled throughout and swirled with raspberry jam. I enjoyed working the grill and creating upscale fare.

Unfortunately, like my main character, Gloriana Jones, we struggled with many things a small business owner does. This included a once in a century type of storm in August of 2000. Fourteen inches of rain fell in the space of eight hours. Power went out, roads flooded, and we shut down.

Now, to be fair to Gloriana, her bad weather was prolonged. Unlike Gloriana, we lost our business a few years later. We didn’t have a Nathan James business consultant or a cast of characters, both natural and supernatural, to help. Ah, live, and learn.

Regardless, the experience and learning have shaped the rest of our lives. I told my husband after he returned to previous work, “there’s nothing sexier than a man with a steady paycheck.” As of today, my Peter is a retired man.

The moral of the story? Grab for the dream. It may not work out, but if you don’t, you’ll always regret never having tried.

I hope you will enjoy this taste of Rainbow Sprinkles.

After the storm come the rainbows.

Blurb

Retired and widowed Gloriana Jones is forging on with the plans she and her late husband dreamed of—bringing joy and happiness, one ice cream cone at a time, to Lake Unami. But bad weather is drowning her dream. A trip to Upstate NY is bittersweet for Nathan James. He is excited to see his first granddaughter but without his wife he’s lonely. When his car breaks down, he heads to the only light he can see, an ice cream shop. With aid from a heavenly source, electricity sparks, but will the two weather the summer storms and find love a second time? Or will their hopes and dreams melt away?

Excerpt

“Do you mind if I wait until the tow truck gets here?” He plucked the wet shirt away from his chest with the long fingers of one tanned hand. “It must be electrical, even the radio stopped working.”

“No, you’re welcome to hang around as long as you need.” Gloriana riffled through a cardboard box under the counter, pulled out an extra-large t-shirt, and tossed it to him. “Here you go. The restroom is through there.”

Mr. Gorgeous beamed a perfect toothy smile. “Thanks. I’ll be right back.”

When he disappeared into the hallway, and the door clicked shut, Gloriana fanned her face. What the hot fudge was wrong with her? “Coffee. Make coffee.”

Jana Richards presents To Heal a Heart (The Masonville Series, book 2) #releaseday

Today, my Wild Rose Press sistah, Jana Richards, has a new book releasing, TO HEAL A HEART ( The Masonville Series, book 2) and she dropped by recently to give me a little glimpse at the story. I think you’re gonna love it!

Two souls in pain, two hearts in need of rescue.

Blurb:

Garrett Saunders’ world changed two years ago on a road in Afghanistan. Back home, he feels like a stranger. As he struggles to find his place in the world, he meets a horse destined for the slaughterhouse and a woman bent on rescuing the strays of the world, including him.

Blair Greyson moves to Masonville to look after her ailing grandfather and give her rescue horses a home. Right away she butts heads with a surly former Marine. Despite a rocky start, they come to an agreement: Blair will board Garrett’s rescue horse and he’ll help with repairs around her farm.

Garrett finds purpose working with Blair—and falls in love with her. But she’s hiding a secret. Can she forgive herself and accept Garrett’s love, or will she let guilt and regret continue to rule her life?

Excerpt

“Do you remember the last summer I saw you, just before I joined the Marines? Your brothers were both working for the summer, so you came out to your grandparents’ farm on your own.”

Blair’s face grew hot at the memory. She pulled his shirt from his jeans and laid her palm against the warm, hard muscles of his abdomen. “You mean the summer I threw myself at you and you totally rejected me? No, I barely remember that at all.”

He chuckled as he pushed her shirt off her shoulders. “I was sorely tempted that summer. There you were, prancing around in your short shorts and bikini top, working in your grandmother’s garden while I mowed the lawns. You must have known you were driving me crazy.”

Actually, she hadn’t known. He’d done a great job of ignoring her and making her believe she was nothing but a nuisance. She looked up at him, tilting her head to one side. “If you were so tempted, why did you tell me to take a hike when I tried to seduce you?”

“You were fifteen, Blair. Three years younger than me and just a kid. If you’d known what I wanted to do with you…” His unfinished sentence shimmered between them.

He was such an honorable man. He hadn’t wanted to take advantage of a young girl with a case of raging hormones and too little sense. A girl who believed her only worth was in what her body could give to a boy.

“Perhaps you can show me now.” Blair slowly lowered the zipper of his pants. “I’m not a kid anymore.”

A little about Jana…

When Jana Richards read her first romance novel, she immediately knew two things: she had to commit the stories running through her head to paper, and they had to end with a happily ever after. She also knew she’d found what she was meant to do. Since then she’s never met a romance genre she didn’t like. She writes contemporary romance, romantic suspense, and historical romance set in World War Two, in lengths ranging from short story to full length novel. Just for fun, she throws in generous helpings of humor, and the occasional dash of the paranormal. Her paranormal romantic suspense “Seeing Things” was a 2008 EPPIE finalist.

In her life away from writing, Jana is an accountant/admin assistant, a mother to two grown daughters, and a wife to her husband Warren. She enjoys golf, yoga, movies, concerts, travel and reading, not necessarily in that order. She and her husband live in Winnipeg, Canada. She loves to hear from readers and can be reached through her website at www.janarichards.com

A visit with #author Colleen L. Donnelly and LETTERS AND LIES

Another one of my fabulous and talented Wild Rose Press sistahs is visiting today. Give a big hand to Colleen L. Donnelly.

Colleen’s got a new book out titled LETTERS AND LIES and she graciously agreed to tell us a little about it today.

Take it away, Colleen…

Sometimes we just need candy, and in this case, candy with a heart. “Letters and Lies” was written for those moments when you want to smile more than think, laugh more than worry, and clap a hand over your heart at my heroine’s antics which could just as easily have been your own. Follow near-spinster Louise Archer as she heads west to find the man who jilted her, armed with what she believed to be a foolproof plan to marry him in time to save the family business and her reputation.

“Letters and Lies”

Blurb:

Louise Archer boards a westbound train in St. Louis to find the Kansas homesteader who wooed and proposed to her by correspondence, then jilted her by telegram – Don’t come, I can’t marry you. Giving a false name to hide her humiliation, her lie backfires when a marshal interferes and offers her his seat.

Marshal Everett McCloud intends to verify the woman coming to marry his homesteading friend is suitable. At the St. Louis train station, his plan detours when he offers his seat to a captivating woman whose name thankfully isn’t Louise Archer.

Everett’s plans thwart hers, until he begins to resemble the man she came west to find, and she the woman meant to marry his friend.

Excerpt:

“He wrote and changed your plans? Why didn’t you tell me? You know I love hearing his letters.”

Everyone loved hearing his letters. Or at least they’d pretended to. I glanced at my friends, especially the one who’d first suggested I correspond with her husband’s homesteading friend in Kansas who was ready to look for a wife. She dabbed at her eyes with a handkerchief while she flicked the fingers of her other hand in a weak wave. I dredged my soul in search of a smile. The man she’d introduced me to truly had penned everything I’d ever wanted in a husband, months of letters which convinced Mama Jim was my open door. Letters I’d foolishly carted from family to friend to blather every word like a desperate spinster. Drat.

“He didn’t send his change of plans in a letter, Mama. He sent them in a telegram.” Don’t come, I can’t marry you. The only words I never shared.

“Well I imagine your Jim has a surprise for you and didn’t have time to send a letter before you left for Crooked Creek. How thoughtful to wire you instead.”

Thoughtful…I felt poisoned and Mama would too if she ever found out Jim had shut my open door. Which she wouldn’t, since as soon as I got out there and found him, I’d wedge it back open again.

A visit with ROOT BREW FLOATS author Sydney Winward

Have you heard about the Wild Rose Press’ s newest novella series ONE SCOOP OR TWO?

One of the books in that series is by today’s guest author and fellow WRP sistah  SYDNEY WINWARD

Sydney agreed to share a little about what led to her submission ROOT BREW FLOAT for the series for you all, so take it away, Sydney….

When I heard of the call for submissions for The Wild Rose Press One Scoop or Two Series, I just couldn’t pass up such a fun opportunity! But what to write about? I drew a blank. When you think of ice cream, you think of contemporary, of beaches, of summer. Hmm…well…I’m not usually a contemporary writer, so this had me stumped.

When in doubt, ask the husband!

Who knew an engineer could actually have great, creative ideas for books? He helped me brainstorm, and we came up with a semi-satisfying idea about witches and ice cream. So I sat down and wrote my synopsis.

But when I took it back to him, he turned to me and said, “This is way too dark for a light-hearted beach read.”

Dejectedly, I went and pouted for a little while, and then back to the drawing board! Or rather, the clacking keyboard. I smoothed out the idea and set it aside for a week, letting my brain do its thing. I come up with most of my scene ideas at night when I finally climb in bed. I didn’t write for an entire week. Oh, what torture! But the novella came together nicely, all the kinks smoothed out of the twists and turns.

And finally, I started writing! My husband has yet to read my novella. And my first book too. And anything I’ve written, really. But I’m satisfied with my submission for the One Scoop or Two Series, and I’m so excited that it’s released!

Watch out, world! Josephine Brevil has landed in Massachusetts.

Blurb:

Josephine Brevil has lived hundreds of years haunted by the horrors she experienced during the Salem Witch Trials. She takes great care to hide her powers, though serving a Root Brew Float laced with a magic potion now and again never hurt anybody. The Order sends her to Massachusetts to deal with a paranormal threat, and she meets the young and handsome widower, Clarence Watts. However, being with him comes with a choice. How can she choose between the man she loves and the magic she holds dear?

Excerpt:

“There’s a reason we’re inside the circle. Nothing can touch us in here. Now close your eyes and listen to my voice.” She paused for a moment to take a deep breath, channeling the magic swirling within her core. “Clarence Watts, our task here is to send your deceased wife into the afterlife, beyond the door and into the next realm. If you have done as I previously instructed, you have gotten rid of many of Heidi’s earthly belongings, which is a crucial step to letting her go. Now, imagine a rope that connects you to Heidi. Cut it and sever the tie.”

“It can’t be that simple.”

“It’s not. It’s symbolic of freeing her, but the act of letting go is another story altogether.”

“I’m not sure how I’m supposed to let her go.”

“Cling onto something else you care about. It usually helps.”

His hands tightened around hers. She cracked her eyes open, her heart racing as she stared at their conjoined hands. The word home echoed in her mind again, and when she tried to push it away, it slammed back into her stronger than before.

Home is with the Order, she insisted.

Yet, her pounding heart didn’t believe her.

A visit with #author Marie Tuhart and a wicked good new book series!

You all know I love when one of my Wild Rose Press sistahs comes to visit. Today I’ve got Rose MARIE TUHART with me and she’s got a brand new book – the first in a new series – available that she’s excited to talk about ( so am I!!)

The title is TEMPT and the cover is hot!

A Wicked Sanctuary Novel – Surrender your inhibitions…..

I’m super excited to have the first book in a new series available. The idea for this series had been wandering around in my head for a few years. I had a basic sketch for three books but that was it. Last year I was in-between book and sat down with the idea and began really looking at it.

While things changed, the series soon blossomed from three books to nine book, with the possibility of more. The characters have changed since I first sketched them out, and continue to as I write the books. It will be fun to see each character as I write the books.

Blurb:

Wicked Sanctuary: surrender your inhibitions

After escaping her ex-boyfriend’s horror-themed campout, Sierra Blake stumbles into the a world she didn’t know existed. Dominance and submission. Curious and spirited, but with a history of picking the wrong man, she learns to trust Max and her instincts. But old fears come back into focus, and Sierra will have to find the inner strength to take control of her own life and become the woman she wants to be for Max.

Max Preston has shut himself off from woman, until Sierra crashes into his life. Confronted by a uninvited guest, Max’s protective instincts go into high gear seeing a lone, rain soaked woman on his doorstep. He wants nothing more than to bring her into his world of dominance and submission. But when his ex shows up, life becomes more complicated. All Max wants is Sierra now he has to prove it to her.

Discovering a new confidence under Max’s protection, Sierra finds herself falling for him. But when Max’s too-prefect ex-wife triggers old insecurities, she run – smack into her past with her ex-boyfriend and abusive father. Sierra fights against old insecurities and fight for what she wants. Max.

Excerpt:

“What the…?”

Sierra fought the urge to take a step back at the rough male voice. Blinking the rain out of her eyes, she stared at the bare male chest. Her heart pounded as she allowed her gaze to travel up the sculpted pecs, to unsmiling lips, stormy hazel eyes, straight, medium length black hair and a pair of red devil horns on his head. The man was tall, over six feet.

She swallowed. “Sorry to bother you. If I could borrow your phone, I need to call someone to pick me up.”

The man made a noise in the back of his throat. “Ralph,” he said over his shoulder, “towels please, and lots of them.”

His husky voice sent a shiver down her spine. Must be the rain. He was staring down at her.

“Get in here before you catch a cold.”

“But the floors…” She was dripping water from everywhere.

He reached out and took her by the elbow before pulling her into the foyer and slamming the door shut behind them. “Floors can be cleaned. You’re shivering.” He glanced down at her. “May I?” He gestured to her feet.

She nodded without thinking. He was right; she was soaked and cold. Her gaze shifted as he knelt down and unlaced her boots.

He was wearing dark, well-worn, loose pants and a pair of soft black shoes. Okay, maybe he was afraid she’d stomp on his toes.

“I’m sorry to disturb your party.” She ignored the zing of arousal shooting down her spine as his fingers curved around her ankle after removing her boots.

“Party?”

“The horns.” She waved toward his head.

He grinned, and her breath caught in her throat.

“Ah, yes. Saints and Sinners party.”

Halloween party. She’d totally forgotten Halloween was next week.

Another man, carrying towels, came rushing out of the doorway down the hall. The man in front of her grabbed the top one, shook it out, and offered it to her.

“Thank you.” She took the towel and rubbed her face. Warmth enveloped her skin. She bit back a delightful moan. The towels had been heated.

“Take the backpack off.” She obeyed without thinking.

Sierra shrugged the pack off and dropped it to the floor, then rolled her shoulders. When did her pack grow so heavy? She didn’t have that much in it.

The man shook out another towel and draped it over her shoulders before taking the one in her hands and replacing it with another one. “Ralph, grab one of the robes, please.”

“Sure, boss.” The man lumbered off.

“That’s not necessary. If I could just use your phone.”

He stared at her. She drowned in those hazel eyes. This was a man used to being obeyed, and she could play the game, at least for now. “Thank you, Mister… I don’t even know your name.”

“Max.” His gaze traveled from the top of her head to her toes and back again. Sierra’s spine stiffened and her chin rose.

“Max…” She used the stern voice she used with some of her co-workers. “I do apologize for pulling you from your party. All I need is a phone to call a friend to come pick me up.”

The gleam of respect that flashed in his eyes boosted her ego. After the last twenty-four hours, she needed to be reminded she still had a backbone. “Did your car break down?”

“No.” She wasn’t going to lie.

“How did you get here?”

“Walked.” Now wasn’t the time to get into the whole story.

His eyes narrowed. “Where did you walk from?” There was that note of steel in his voice once again.

Sierra let out a sigh. “The campground.”

Ralph appeared holding out a white robe. Max took it and held it out to her. By the weight of his stare, she had a feeling if she didn’t put it on, there would be an argument, one that had her losing.

With a sigh, she slipped her arms into the robe. She wobbled on her feet as Max pulled the fabric over her front, then before she could say anything, he lifted her into his arms.

“What are you doing?” Her voice was high as she instinctively put her arms around his neck.

“Carrying you. You’re swaying on your feet. I don’t want you to faint.”

“I never faint.” But after today who knows.
