#sundaySnippet 11.15.2020 A Booksweeps Preview~

Tomorrow, HOPE’S DREAM ( Deebourne Inn) is featured in the current Booksweeps Romance Book giveaway, so it made sense that today’s little snippet is from that. ****Don’t click the Booksweep slink, though, until tomorrow. It goes live at 10 am EST Monday, 11/16/2020

Here’s the blurb so you’ll know what the book’s about:

Hope Kildaire gave up her dream of becoming a nurse practitioner when a car accident killed her father and left her mother an invalid. Working two jobs and caring for her mother leaves the twenty-seven-year-old with no time for fun or relationships. When a law firm representing her paternal grandparents sends her several letters, Hope ignores them. She despises the family who disowned her father and wants nothing to do with them.

Lawyer Tyler Coleman’s job is simply to obtain Hope’s signature on a legal document. Getting it is harder than planned, though, when an unexpected attraction blossoms between them. If Ty is honest with Hope about why he’s in Willow Springs, he’ll fulfill his assignment but may risk hurting her.

The opportunity to have everything she’s ever desired is at Hope’s fingertips. Will her dream come true at the expense of Tyler’s love?

As he started back toward the inn, his hands secured in his pockets against the night chill and his neck burrowed under his scarf, he realized he needed to tell her who he was before this went any further. He should have done it tonight, as he’d originally planned. Why he hadn’t was as clear to him as the night sky above: he was frightened once she knew the truth she’d want nothing to do with him.

Could he blame her? While he hadn’t outright lied, he hadn’t told her the truth, either. Which was worse? An intentional fabrication or a lie of omission? Both felt equally wrong right now.

Disappointment had clouded her face when he’d broken their kiss. She felt something for him. That look proved it. He could only hope once she knew who he really was and why he was in her home town, she’d be able to forgive his subterfuge.

Intrigued? I hope so.

The books was originally released as digital only, but the WIld Rose Press graciously decided to put it out in print form, available only thru their website.

Until Now, that is. Hee hee

I’m pleased to say I’m offering print copies from my website store, on sale at a discounted price for the holiday season. Want a copy? Here ya go: OnLineBookStore

Something new – and for a limited time.

With the advent of Covid, our shopping lives have changed, drastically.

On-line shopping has grown even more important for getting our daily needs. The 2020 holiday shopping season is going to be unlike any other, of that I’m sure.

Because I know people are struggling with making ends meet right now, but still want to read books and give them as presents, I wanted to make it easier and cheaper to do that, so, today, I’ve opened my own bookstore here on my website ( for a limited time) in order for people to order my books at a reduced price for themselves or to give as gifts. Here’s the link to the page: Peggy’s Book Store

I’m offering several of my books, directly from me, at a lowered price. Instructions on how to order are on the page, so just give it a once over, see if any of the books are for you, or that you’d like to gift a romance reader on your holiday list! These are the books available. Prices and instructions for ordering are on the webpage, but they are all reduced  and less than amazon and other retailers – AND these are all PRINT BOOKS.

Happy Shopping, peeps ~Peg

Police Chief Lucas Alexander is dealing with an aging father and a moody teenage son, and he’s in love with a woman who only wants to be friends.

How can these two fiercely private people reveal their feelings for one another without destroying the friendship they already have? And if they’re successful, will another secret, if revealed, drive a wedge between Maureen and Lucas that can never be repaired?

#SundaySnippet – a little something from the new anthology SWEET SENTIMENT

Yesterday I posted about the new anthologies that Wild Rose Press have put out, pairing two or more ONE SCOOP OR TWO BOOKS into print versions. My OSOT story, Vanilla with a Twist was paired with another book by author Amey Zeigler in an anthology titled SWEET SENTIMENT.

It seemed fitting today, then, that I put up a little snippet from my addition!

Here’s the blurb so you know what my book is about:

Tandy Blakemore spends her days running her New England ice cream parlor, single-parenting her teenaged son, and trying to keep her head above financial water. No easy feat when the shop’s machinery is aging and her son is thinking about college. Tandy hasn’t had a day off in a decade and wonders if she’ll ever be able to live a worry-free life.

Engineer Deacon Withers is on an enforced vacation in the tiny seaside town of Beacher’s Cove. Overworked, stressed, and lonely, he walks into Tandy’s shop for a midday ice cream cone and gets embroiled in helping her fix a broken piece of equipment.

Can the budding friendship that follows help fix their broken spirits and lead to love?

In this scene, Tandy and Deacon are sharing a meal and getting to know one another….

“Proprietary is my middle name.”

He laughed. “Mine’s Basil.”

She tilted her head. “Your initials are D.B.W, like in dubyuh?”

His wince was as charming as his smile. “I know, pretty awful, right? In school, I was called D.B., which is even worse.”

“What do you like to be called? Deacon? Deke?”

“Deacon’s fine. Is Tandy short for anything?”

“Nope. It’s actually a mistake.”

“How so?”

“The nurse at the hospital who filled out my birth forms had a bit of a hearing problem.” She rolled her eyes at the story her brothers loved teasing her with.

“My mother wanted to name me Sandra after her own mother, and then call me Sandy to distinguish the two of us. The nurse heard it as ‘Tandy’ and recorded it as such. My father found it hysterical, so the name stuck. It’s kind of unusual, so…” She lifted a hand in a there- you-go gesture.

He flicked her a lopsided grin again. “It is, but lovely, too.”

Heat flew up her neck and sprinted to her cheeks.

“One of my partners says he doesn’t care what you call him, but don’t ever call him late for lunch.” He shook his head and forked in a chunk of his lobster. When, a half second later, he sat back and closed his eyes, a tiny moan blowing through his lips, she knew he was having a moment.

“Good God, this is even better than advertised.”

“Yup,” she said.
Deacon opened his eyes again and focused on her face.

“This is another of those recipes Ricky refuses to share,” she told him.

“That’s too bad, because this”—he lifted his filled fork—“is something I’d love to reproduce when I’m back home.”

“Where’s home? I don’t mean to be nosy, but you sound like you’re from the East Coast, only…not.”

“You’re not being nosy. We’re sitting, enjoying a meal, and getting to know one another.” He took a sip from his own water bottle as his gaze held hers. “I grew up in Rhode Island, but for the past fifteen years, I’ve lived in New York. Manhattan.”

“I’ve never been.”

“To the city?”

She shrugged and popped in another knot. “To New York.”

His eyebrows rose again.

“I’m the poster child for small-town girl. Born, bred, lives, and will die here. I’ve only been out of New Hampshire once, in middle school, for an all-states band contest.”

“Where’d you go?”

“Boston.”

One corner of his mouth twitched. “Not exactly international travel.”

“Nope. Took a school bus. Competed. Lost. Came home. Didn’t even have time for any sightseeing.”

“Now, that’s a shame. Boston’s a great town. I have an off-site office there, and I usually go up once a week on business.”

“What do you do? If I had to guess, I’d think something in”—she tilted her head again as she regarded him—“finance. You look…I don’t know.” A quick lift of her shoulder and then she said, “Successful.”

His laugh was swift, open, and free, and she felt it all the way to her toes.

“You make it sound like a curse.”

“I don’t mean to, sorry. It’s been…a while since I’ve been able to sit and chat. Running the shop is a twenty-four-seven life in the summer months, and it doesn’t give me time for other things. Like making small talk.” She glanced out at the water.

He was quiet for a moment, studying her, while she tried to hide the heat slipping up her neck again from her confession by dipping her chin.

“I can understand that. My business occupies my life twenty-four-seven, too.”

“And yet you’re here, on vacation, so you’re able to take some time away from it.”

This time his laugh held a darker, strained note.

He shook his head and dropped his gaze to the water bottle in his hands. “This isn’t exactly a vacation,” he told her. “Not in the true sense.”

“A vacation’s a vacation in my book.”

“In mine, too. Usually. But I didn’t plan to take these three weeks away. I was, well, the best word is coerced.”

A new short story collection from VICKI BATMAN just in time for your Holiday TBRlist!

Amazing writer – and fellow WRP sistah – VICKI BATMAN, has a new collection of short stories out, just in time for your holiday shopping – and reading!!!

Here’s an exclusive peek of SOMMERVILLE HOLIDAYS TOO

From the author:

Often, I’m asked how I write short stories. Some authors tell me they just can’t write that short. I actually prefer short over long. Long drives me crazy.

I didn’t begin my writing by writing short stories. Way back when, a friend and I critiqued, she asked me to review her shorts, and quickly, I adapted. I wrote some and sold some. I took a class and the teacher taught me how to write from a word or picture prompt. So far, I’ve written close to forty stories. Fun!

So what to do with these lovelies? I package them into one book, the latest being Sommerville holidays too. Included is:

“The Great Fruitcake Bake-off” – I love fruitcake. My favorite is Tomato Cake, a recipe from my grandmother. Now don’t get all wacky over the tomato part. This is a war recipe and contains tomato soup, which you don’t taste. Included are nuts, spices, and fruit, which makes for one delicious cake.

In “Bake-off,” my heroine and her neighbor enter a holiday baking contest. Bad guys are plotting to take the crown, and they find first prize isn’t just about a ribbon.

“Christmas Romeo” – I love cruises. Unpack once. Eat great food. Nice people take you nice places. Totally awesome. I did cruise the Rhine River and now know there is a winter one with all these fabulous markets. (Rats, missed that shopping.) So what if… When two feuding co-workers win Christmas river cruises at the company holiday party, they discover each other isn’t so bad after all.

“Twinkle Lights” – I LOVE and ADORE fresh Christmas trees. For years, my family and I traveled to the local tree farms and chopped one down. We roasted hotdogs and marshmallows, too. Now, we shop at a family-run tree stand nearby. So I wondered… When the owner of a Christmas tree stand, which benefits the children’s hospital, has a heart attack, a do-gooder and a reformed high school delinquent turned lawyer show their holiday spirit and staff the business. The twosome meet the challenges of running the establishment; yet, when revenue goes missing, fingers are pointed.

A new #DeerbourneInn novella by Roni Denholtz: Meet Me At The Inn

My friend and writing sistah RONI DENHOLTZ, is the latest WRP author to have a book in the DEERBOUNE INN series. MEET ME AT THE INN is the second Deerbourne Roni has penned!

Here’s why Roni decided to do a second book in the series:

“At the end of “Enchanted Vermont Nights,” Tarren is dumped by her boyfriend, Chad, who attempts to go back to his old girlfriend, Tarren’s cousin Brianna.  I felt sorry for Tarren when I finished that novella, and decided she deserved a happy ending, too!  So I wrote “Meet Me at the Inn!”

Just look at the gorgeous cover:

Blurb

Actress Tarren Reilly is still smarting from being dumped by her former boyfriend–whom she stole from her cousin.  Reeling from the pain she has caused, she agrees to a fake relationship for publicity reasons.
Country singer Clint Jackson has wanted Tarren since they first met,  Together, they visit the Deerbourne Inn for the Thanksgiving holiday, where he plans to suggest they take their phony relationship to the “friends with benefits” level.
Both Tarren and Clint are dealing with personal issues from prior entanglements.  As they draw closer, can Tarren and Clint deal with their pasts and turn a pretend relationship into the real deal?

Excerpt

“We should enjoy a comfortable night at the inn.”  She replaced the phone, meeting his eyes.  “Everyone thinks we’re sleeping together.”
It popped out of his mouth.  “We could be.”
Tarren stared at Clint as a shimmer of excitement swept up her spine.
They could be?  Yes, they could be sleeping together, but–
“What I mean is,’ Clint continued, his eyes gleaming, “everyone thinks we’re a couple, for real.  We’re already friends.  We could be–friends with benefits.”
A little about Roni Denholtz

Roni Denholtz is the award-winning author of 20 romance novels and novellas; 9 children’s books; and over a hundred short stories and articles. She lives in beautiful northwest New Jersey with her husband and adopted dog.

She has volunteered with school organizations, her local animal shelter, and served as President of New Jersey Romance Writers. She collects girls’ series books like the Nancy Drew mysteries. She enjoys traveling, photography, and most of all, reading!

#authorInterview with Debby Grahl

I so love it when one of my Wild Rose Sistah’s lets me interview them, especially when they’ve got a new book out!

Debby Grahl is a fabulous writer and I can’t believe this is the first time I’m interviewing her!! Let’s get to the questions, and stick around because afterward she’s giving her a glimpse into her new book MOUNTAIN BLAZE.

So, Debby….As a Writer …

What drives you to write?

Writing is something I’ve always wanted to do. I come from a family of artists. My grandmother, aunt, and uncle all painted. My cousin was an art teacher, and I have family members who are graphic designers. I have a disease of the retina called Retinitis Pigmentosa which causes gradual vision loss. I lost the ability to read print in my twenties. I honestly believe since I can’t be creative with my eyes, mine comes out in words.

What genre(s) of Romance do your write, and why?

I write both contemporary and paranormal romance. I’ve always liked reading books with ghosts and witches. I like using them because they’re so versatile. You can have nice or mean ghosts. You can have those who can be seen or not. I also enjoy using ghosts of historical characters. My witches are normal people with different degrees of power. With contemporary books, I always have some kind of mystery and like to set them in interesting places. His Magic Touch is set in New Orleans. Mountain Blaze takes place in the beautiful mountains outside of Asheville NC.

What genre(s) of Romance do you read, and why?

Again, I love paranormal books with ghosts and witches. I’m a history nut and love visiting England, so regency books are a must read for me. I love reading the queens of mystery cozies, Agatha Christie, Ngaio Marsh, and Dorothy L Sayers. I also enjoy stories that take place in the twenties. Carola Dunn’s Daisy Dalrymple is one of my favorite characters.

What’s your writing schedule? Do you write every day?

I’m a creature of habit. I try to write each day. I do my best writing early in the morning. I usually get up around five thirty, work out, then start writing. If the words are flowing, I’ve been known to write nonstop until dinner time.

Give us a glimpse of the surroundings where you write. Separate room? In the kitchen? At the dining room table?

A few years ago I had back surgery. Recovering at home, I found my desk chair too uncomfortable. I discovered sitting in the love seat with my feet up worked best. I got so used to this, I still write with my feet up.

Are you the kind of writer who needs total quiet to compose, or are you able to filter out the typical sounds of the day and use your tunnel-vision?

Not at all. I find I can easily get distracted, so I have to have quiet.

Do you listen to music while you write, and if so, what kind? If not, why not?

LOL! If I listened to music, I’d be dancing not writing.( Peggy here – me, too!)

Which comes first for you – character or plot? And why?

I’d say plot because I choose my location first. Then my characters and story line.

What 3 words describe you, the writer?

Relentless, determined, and imaginative.

Debby – just between us…

Tell us one unusual thing about yourself – not related to writing!

Except for bathrooms, I actually don’t mind cleaning house.

Who was your first love and what age were you?

I was thirteen and his name was Vinnie. He had no interest in me at all. Now, fifty years later, he’s a friend on Facebook and cheers me on with my writing.

If you could relive one day, which one would it be? Think GROUNDHOG DAY, the movie for this one – you’ll have to live it over and over and….

This is a hard one, but I’ll say, the first time I held my first printed book in my hands. It had taken so long for me to get to that moment in my life, it’s worth reliving.

What’s one thing you love about your significant other?   He likes to cook.

If you had to give up one necessary-can’t-live-without-it item, what would it be?    Going to the hair salon.

What three words describe you, the person?  Friendly, honest, and loving.

If you could sing a song with Jimmy Fallon, what would it be?    New York New York.

If you could hang out with any literary character from any book penned at any time line, who would it by, why, and what would you do together?

This would be Carola Dunn’s Daisy Dalrymple. Daisy lives in London during the twenties. I’d love to ride around in her two-seater car and tour London during that time period.

I love the Actor’s Studio show on Bravo, so this is my version of it:

  1. Favorite sound — ocean waves.
  2. Least favorite sound — water dripping.
  3. Best song every written — Center Field.
  4. Worst song ever written — Don’t worry be happy.
  5. Favorite actor and actress — Dennis Quaid and Katharine Hepburn.
  6. Who would you want to be for 1 day and why? (It can be anyone living or dead) — Agatha Christie. I’ve love to be inside her brain.
  7. What turns you on? — My husband.
  8. What turns you off? — Arrogance
  9. Give me the worst 5 words ever heard on a first date (here’s mine: “Is that your real hair?”)— Can you get the check?
  10. What’s your version of a perfect day? — Laying on the beach, shopping and lunch with my girlfriend; and leaving for England with my husband.

Mountain Blaze

Can Dillon and Diana elude a killer while their newfound love grows?

Disillusioned by his wife’s betrayal, rodeo star Dillon McCoy comes home to the mountains of North Carolina to lick his wounds. When he agrees to take over the family ranch, the Lazy M, he’s unaware danger waits.

Diana Thompson is having doubts about her engagement to Trent Sawyer. She agrees to leave Chapel Hill and spend Thanksgiving with her friend Jenn at the Lazy M. When Diana and Dillon meet, neither can deny their attraction, but both must resolve past relationships while fighting their growing desire.

After Dillon turns down an anonymous offer to purchase the ranch, attempts are made on his life. When a body is found, Dillon sets out to discover who wants the McCoy land enough to commit murder.

Excerpt

Dillon smiled and Diana thought it the sexiest smile she’d ever seen. There was a slight cleft in his chin, and fine lines formed at the corners of his eyes. Diana inwardly groaned. The butterflies were back.

“I’d hold onto you. I wouldn’t let you fall,” he softly said.

With his slow southern accent, the words sounded like warm honey rolling off his tongue. The depth of his eyes and the sound of his voice mesmerized her.

The horses stood side by side. Her and Dillon’s legs touched. He leaned toward her, and the light aroma of wood smoke, hay, and his spicy cologne filled her nostrils. Diana knew what he was about to do but had no willpower to stop him. He cupped her cheek and their lips met.

Gentle at first, his lips glided over hers. He increased the pressure until she opened her mouth and his tongue slipped in. Diana moaned and wrapped her arms around his neck. His arms around her waist, he deepened the kiss. Before she realized what he was doing, without breaking their kiss Dillon lifted her from Flora and placed her across his lap.

Cradled in his arms, Diana clung to him, delicious sensations filling her. Her body came alive in a way that surprised her. The only thing that mattered was this man and this moment.

Flame moved, bringing her back to reality. Diana’s eyes fluttered open, and she stared into Dillon’s, deep with passion and need.
