FROZEN CRIMES by multi-published author CHRYS FEY
Multipublished, talented author CHRYS FEY joins me today to talk about Christmas music, holiday parties, and her newest book FROZEN CRIMES, book 5 in the Disaster Crimes series.
Here’s Chrys…
I love Christmas music! With Frozen Crimes taking place during the winter season, I was able to write about a Christmas party Beth and Donovan have at their house. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to mention a couple of my favorite songs, such as “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” by The Carpenters and “Where Are You Christmas?” by Faith Hill.
During one specific scene, I had to find a fun song with a beat that could get pregnant Beth and her sexy husband Donovan moving and dancing together. I didn’t want to use “Rockin Around the Christmas Tree,” because, well, I don’t like that song. (Sorry.) I was listening to my Christmas playlist on Spotify when “All I Want for Christmas is You” by Mariah Carey came on. I started to bopped around in my chair while writing about the Christmas party. I was having fun and knew right away that song was the answer. Picturing my characters dancing to that number and having fun made me smile.
EXCERPT # 1
“All I Want for Christmas Is You” came on next. When the beat picked up, Donovan rocked back and forth to it. Beth laughed. This wasn’t exactly a great song to dance to in someone’s arms, with its fast tempo, but Donovan had some moves, and her belly didn’t even deter him. She bopped to the music, moving her shoulders, lifting her hands into the air, and shook her hips back and forth. Laughter bubbled out of her mouth.
Mariah Carey, the diva herself, and Donovan’s dance moves were the two things that could get Beth out of her funk. The lyrics were perfect, too. All she wanted for Christmas was Donovan. Him and only him. This Christmas and every Christmas after it. Forever. And ever.
EXCERPT #2:
Later that evening, after snacking on delicious hors d’oeuvres and chatting with their guests, Beth went looking for a free seat to take a load off. Literally. She rubbed her belly. Her feet were killing her, even barefoot. Plus, another one of her all-time favorite songs was on—“Where Are You, Christmas?” by Faith Hill—and she wanted to be able to lip-sync and act it out like a fool where no one would be able to see her. She headed for the dining room, where not many people had been all evening, planning to plop down in one of the chairs around the table and fake belt out this epic song.
Songs Mentioned in Frozen Crimes:
- “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” by The Carpenters
- “All I Want for Christmas is You” by Mariah Carey
- “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” by Michael Bublé
- “Where Are You, Christmas?” by Faith Hill
Other Christmas Songs I Listened to while Writing Frozen Crimes:
- “Carol of the Bells” by August Burns Red
- “Happy Xmas (War is Over)” by John Lennon
- “Last Christmas” by Wham!
- “Do You Hear What I Hear” by Carrie Underwood
- “Carol of the Bells” by Trans-Siberian Orchestra
- “Carol of the Bells” by Mannheim Steamrollers
A QUESTION FROM CHRYS: What are your favorite Christmas songs?
FROZEN CRIMES…..
When disasters strike around every corner, is it possible to have a happily-ever-after?
BLURB: Beth and Donovan are expecting their first child. Life couldn’t get any better…until a stalker makes his presence known. This person sends disturbing messages and unsettling items, but it isn’t long before his menacing goes too far.
Hoping for a peaceful Christmas, Donovan takes Beth to Michigan. Days into their trip, a winter storm named Nemesis moves in with the goal of burying the state. Snowdrifts surround their house, and the temperature drops below freezing.
Except, the storm isn’t the only nemesis they must face. Everyone’s lives are at stake—especially that of their unborn child. Will they survive, or will they become a frozen crime?

Can he convince her he doesn’t want her heart only for the holidays, but forever?

#Author Sadira Stone & Christmas Rekindled
It is nevah too early for a good Christmas story and today, fellow author Sadira Stone is visiting me and is giving us a peak at her addition to your holiday reading list, CHRISTMAS REKINDLED.
When two Scrooges unite to save a bar in trouble, a kiss under the mistletoe sparks the sexiest Christmas miracle ever.
Blurb:
Bartender River Lundqvist has a damn good reason for hating Christmas. Bangers Tavern is the perfect place to lay low over the holidays—until Charlie walks in. His first encounter with the saucy server nine years ago was utter humiliation. Her reappearance stirs up powerful desires and hopes for a new start. But the timing is all wrong.
Back in Tacoma to care for her estranged dad over the holidays, freelance web designer Charlie Khoury braces herself for the suckiest Christmas ever. A temporary job at Bangers Tavern gives her a chance to escape Dad’s criticism and blow off some steam. But why does the hunky bartender seem to hate her?
A pretend girlfriend is just what River needs to keep his family off his back—until a kiss under the mistletoe flares hot enough to melt the North Pole. When greedy developers threaten Bangers Tavern, River and Charlie must team up to save it. Their sizzling chemistry feels like the real thing—but everyone knows rebound relationships don’t last.
Come to Bangers Tavern for an enemies-to-lovers tale of reconciliation, found family, holiday cocktails, and the sexiest Christmas miracle ever.
Excerpt
Her low, throaty chuckle made him want to kiss her again. Though he pretty much wanted to kiss her anytime she was within range.
She laid her hand palm-up on the center console. “The thing is, I’m not looking for a relationship.”
Remembering a bit of Dawn’s wisdom, he nestled his hand into hers. “You never find a relationship when you’re looking for one.”
Her gaze softened, open and vulnerable. “Are you looking?”
Warning sirens blared inside his head. This was a question to answer very carefully. “If you’d asked me a month ago, I’d say, ‘No way.’ But then, I kissed this girl under the mistletoe, and…”
She closed her eyes, lifted his hand, and pressed it to her sternum. Beneath his palm, her heart thudded fast. His pulse sped to match hers. He held his breath.
“I like you, River.” Her whisper matched the brush of snowflakes against the windows.
“I like you too.”
She inhaled deeply, then met his gaze. “Enough to be my friend?”
He nodded, mesmerized.
“Because my life is a mess right now, and I have no idea what the fuck I’m doing.”
Her coarse language stirred up a heady swirl of laughter, sympathy, and arousal. He scooted as near as the center console allowed and placed his lips close to her ear. “I’ll tell you a secret. Me neither.”
Fire flickered in her eyes’ inky depths. Her lips parted. A golden thread wound around his heart and tugged him toward her. His thumb stroked the delicate line of her jaw as he closed the distance.

A little about Sadira Stone…
Ever since her first kiss, Sadira’s been spinning steamy tales in her head. After leaving her teaching career in Germany, she finally tried her hand at writing one. Now she’s a happy citizen of Romancelandia, penning contemporary romance from her new home in Washington State, U.S.A. When not writing, which is seldom, she explores the Pacific Northwest with her charming husband, enjoys the local music scene, plays darts (pretty well), plays guitar (badly), and gobbles all the books. Visit Sadira at http://www.sadirastone.com.

and just a little more…
I write steamy contemporary romance set in the U.S. Pacific Northwest. My Book Nirvana series centers around a quirky bookshop in Eugene, Oregon. Gelato Surprise is a steamy older woman/younger man beach romance novella. The Bangers Tavern Romance series is set in a neighborhood tavern in Tacoma, Washington, where I live—the town, not the tavern! Each story features a holiday celebration in Bangers Tavern: Christmas, St. Patrick’s Day, Cinco de Mayo, 4th of July, Halloween, etc. During this sad time when so many bars, restaurants, and other businesses are shut down, Bangers Tavern gives me the chance to virtually share the fun, camaraderie, and bar food I miss so much. And each volume includes tasty cocktail recipes I’ve personally tested and tweaked—a tough job, but I do it for my readers (wink).
Under my own name, I write cozy mysteries and creepy short stories—think The Twilight Zone—but so far only one creepy short has been published. I’ll get to the rest of them eventually, but right now I’m having too much fun writing romance!
#SundaySnippet 10.3.2020 ANGEL KISSES and HOLIDAY WISHES
So excited that one of my sweet holiday romance stories in included in the brand new CHRISTMAS COMES TO DICKENS holiday Romance anthology. 10 Award winning and Best Selling authors have collaborated to bring you 10 wonderful Holiday stories all taking place in the little New England town of Dickens. Today’s snippet is from my story ANGEL KISSES AND HOLIDAY WISHES.
Can a first love be rekindled when the past is filled with heartache?
After a personal tragedy, Sage Hamilton left the town she’d grown up in and boy she’d given her heart to. With a vow never to return, Sage forged on with her life in order to forget the sadness of her past.
Keith Mills loved Sage from the first moment he spotted her ambling down the hallway of their middle school. And she’d felt the same about him. Or so he’d thought until she’d walked away from everything they’d meant to one another with a tearful and rushed goodbye.
But now, eighteen years later, she’s back and, as the town’s new doctor, it looks like she’s staying. Can Keith put the hurt of Sage’s dismissal to bed for good? And will she want to rekindle the love that had burnt so bright all those years ago?
SNIPPET….
Brianna had rearranged Sage’s afternoon schedule in order to deal with Corrine Mills’ emergency. One of the best parts of coming back home had been reconnecting with Corinne. Since the passing of her own grandmother and mother, Sage had missed the wisdom and counseling of the women who’d helped mold her into the person she was today. Corrine Mills, with her ready shoulder to lean on and ears meant for listening, had been the perfect person for Sage to reconnect with.
Of course, hearing all Corrine’s accolades about the man Sage had once loved was a bit…unsettling. But she’d put on a happy face and let the old woman brag to her heart’s content.
Keith Mills.
He’d filled so many firsts in Sage’s life, reminding her of the ornament tree in Matilda’s shop. First kiss, first boyfriend, first love…and lover.
He’d also been the first man her heart had broken over.
Oh, well. All that’s in the past. He probably hasn’t even thought about me since I left town.
When she signed off on her last chart, the beeper attached to her lab coat vibrated.
~Keith Mills is here.
Dragging in a calming breath, Sage mentally prepared herself to see the man she’d left standing in angry and emotional tatters eighteen years ago.
She heard him before she ever laid eyes on him.
“Where’s my grandmother’s doctor?” he bellowed from the nurse’s station. “Get him up here right now.”
“I already paged Dr. Hamilton,” Deb said, her voice staying calm and controlled.
Sage stopped as she turned the hallway corner and spotted Keith.
He was impossible to miss.
From his impressive and imposing six-foot-three height he towered above the diminutive nurse as he stood, arms akimbo, glaring down his nose at her.
An annoyed scowl twisted his mouth, but the memory of how seductive and alluring those full lips could be when pulled into a wicked grin burned bright in her mind.
“Where’s Doc Martin? He’s been my grandmother’s physician for decades. Who is this Hamilton person?”
“Keith.”
No amount of preparation could have prevented the full effect of Keith Mills’ gaze from shooting through Sage when he turned to her.
As a teenager he’d been all gangly arms and monkey hands, bony shoulders and narrow hips. His face had yet to fill out, but even back then his features hinted at a classic, movie star handsomeness to come.
As a man now, he’d outgrown the teen gauntness and his body had settled into perfect male proportions. Those bony shoulders spanned a yard and dropped into arms bulging underneath a fitted shirt. That hint of good looks had blossomed into a face sculpted by the gods of gorgeous. Cheekbones cut from glass sat over a square and powerful jaw. All in all, he’d grown into one magnificent man.
Damn him.
Whatever he’d been about to say died before he gave it a voice. In the span of a heartbeat his expression went from annoyed to confused, his eyes widening, then the corners pulling into a squint, his lips lifting from their frown to form a wide O of surprise.
“Sage?” Incredulity graced his voice – a man’s voice. Rich and deep; hard and commanding. A shiver of intense and unexpected longing zipped down her spine at the timbre.
She swallowed and beat back the panicked nerves tumbling through her system. “It’s been a long time.” She walked toward the nurse’s station, her gaze steadier than her trembling hands.
Indecision blasted through her the nearer she came. Be professional and shake his hand, or hug him like a long lost friend?
“What are you doing here?”
The irritation behind his question decided her response. She clasped her quivering hands in front of her and said, “You wanted to speak to me about your grandmother. Why don’t we go down to the cafeteria to talk? Corrine’s still in surgery and it’s going to be a bit before you can see her.”
Slipping her hands into her lab coat pockets, she tilted her head, indicating for him to follow as she began walking toward the elevator bank.
“Wait.”
She stopped, mid stride, and turned back around.
“I don’t understand.” He shook his head, his eyebrows lifting to his hairline. “You’re my grandmother’s physician? You’re…Dr. Hamilton?”
Intrigued? You can preorder your copy for only 99cents here: CC2D
And because the Holiday season is meant for baking and making cookies, the authors in the anthology have also put together a companion cookie recipe book that’s FREE for you – JUST WAIT UNTIL 10.8.2020 to get it!!!!!! Download your copy herenafter 10.8.2020 :CC2dCookieCompanion
