“I’m culling,” my mother said. With a snap of her wrist she sent another two-hundred-dollar silk shirt into a black plastic trash bag situated next to her bed.

3 Wishes ( A Candy Heart Romance)

Valentine’s Day is chocolatier Chloe San Valentino’s favorite day of the year. Not only is it the busiest day in her candy shop, Caramelle de Chloe, but it’s also her birthday. Chloe’s got a birthday wish list for the perfect man she pulls out every year: he’d fall in love with her in a heartbeat, he’d be someone who cares about people, and he’d have one blue eye and one green eye, just like her. So far, Chloe’s fantasy man hasn’t materialized, despite the matchmaking efforts of her big, close-knit Italian family. But this year for her big 3-0 birthday, she just might get her three wishes.

#CyberMonday, #romanceBooks, and #shoppingfromHome

It’s amazing how nowadays we have labels, tags, and names for everything, including the days we shop for holiday presents! This is the world we live in, peeps. Accept it and move on.

So, CYBER MONDAY. The day where the people in the know state the majority of on-line sales for the holidays are completed. And, like any good little writing entrepreneur, I’m blogging about the day!! Or more specifically, how to order my books on-line.

I’ve become quite the little marketing/ad designer these days. Thank you, Jesus for Canva!! Hee hee.

Anyhoo. You probably already know you can order my books from most of the on-line book retailers out there. With the exception of the anthologies I am part of and the two books that were digital only, all my other books are available in print or e-reader copy, so you can buy them for yourself or gift them to the romance reader on your shopping list this year.

I’m still a big believer in the brick and mortar store way of shopping, but since my books are classified as Digital first/POD ( Print on Demand) the only place they are available is in my home town in my local independent bookstore, so if you live in, say,  Kalamazoo,  Kentucky, or Kensington Palace, it just makes sense to order them on-line.

So, do a sistah a solid and put a little romance under your own tree – or the romance reader in your life’s tree – this year!

And don’t forget – several of my titles are now available on AUDIO from AUDIBLE, so if your romance reader is really a romance listener, you’ve got options for gifts. Love that!!

And, as always, #blessyou!

Thoughts from the Dentist’s chair

Had to get my teeth cleaned today. So NOT my favorite thing to do. But while I was sitting their, reclined and held captive while my tech did her thing, my mind started strolling through all the crap that I usually filter out every day just so I can work.

Things like:

~did I take something out of the freezer to defrost in time for diiner

~ can I put off doing the laundry for one more day or will we wind up without clean underwear tomorrow

~ how can I get more readers

~ will I fit into my clothes by the time RWA rolls around

~should I get my hair cut? Get botox? Get a face lift?

~ who really shot the deputy ( if you get this one KUDOS to you!!!)

~ where do I want my life to be in 5 years? ten? Will I even make it to 10?

~why do we park on driveways and drive on parkways

~ does menopause ever end

Believe me, there’s a whole lot more than just these examples that shunt through my head and annoy me everyday if I let them.

Le sigh…a writer’s life.

My first #audiobook review

I’ve talked ad nauseum here on this blog about how important REVIEWS are for an author. It can mean the difference between a new author’s name getting out there in a positive light, and sales death on Amazon. Well, audio books – which are now all the reading rage – have their own importance for reviews as well. I tell you all this because I just received my very first audio book review for 3 WISHES and it warmed my heart.

You can click on the link to see it, but my favorite line? This one: “It’s a 5 star listen “

Sniff sniff! And this is a review from a person I don’t know from Adam so that makes it more wonderful.
Le sigh. A nice was to start a Tuesday, no?

Post Writing Conference High…

SO I’m back home after spending a few days in Burlington, MA at the NECRW 2018 Let Your imagination take Flight writers conference. Tired doesn’t begin to describe me today. My bones are weary!

This year, I made a concerted effort to put my little introverted self out there and meet new writers. Those of you who know me, probably think I’m having some kind of stroke by referring to myself as introverted. But I am, truly. Even though I’ll talk to a rock, I still get ridiculously nervous and feel I’m being judged by people I’ve just met.

But that’s my hangup, so….

Lots of fun and informative times at the conference.

First and foremost, met the amazeballs and national writing treasure Beverly Jenkins. She gave a master class on setting and world building that was so spot on, it’s no wonder she’s the fabulous writer she is. Every writer – whether of the romance genre, or truly, an other genre, could learn something from this brilliant woman that would elevate their writing to heights never thought of before. I have 6 pages of handwritten, excited notes from her class and can’t wait to start putting them into practice.

From the phenomenal and tech-brilliant Nam Patel I seriously increased my knowledge base of keywords, SEO’s and how to navigate through google. Nam is the kind of brilliant person who is able to break down complex knowledge principles to an understandable language for tach-no-savvy’s like me!!

I’d never heard the term Fan-Fiction before until I took a class with literary agent Courtney Miller Callahan on the subject. Boy, did I get an eyeopener!

Of course there were other workshops I attended, but these three ladies were by far the best and brightest of the bunch!

Now, I’m off to start building a better world and setting for my characters, then I have to update my internet accounts, and finally, I may just take a quick trek through a few fan fiction pages to get an idea of what this whole subgenre is really about. I can smell a potential story line here for a couple of people who need an HEA in their lives!

Of course when I’m not writing you can find me here;

Conference season, like Hollywood Awards season, is a big deal to a writer.

Every year when the Hollywood awards season starts – you know: the Screen Actors Guild awards, the Oscars, the Golden Globes, — I start to get excited because for me that means the beginning of WRITERS CONFERENCE TIME.

No lie. There is literally a romance writers conference every single month from now until December, and I’m going to a bunch of them this year.

The very first is taking place this weekend in Burlington, MA with the NECRW LET YOUR IMAGINATION TAKE FLIGHT conference and book signing. I’ll be cavorting, mingling, and networking with hundreds of romance writers like me, and even participating in the big book signing tomorrow night.

So, if you’re in Burlington, MA area and you love to read romance, stop by the Marriott from 6-8 tomorrow night and meet over 50 of your favorite and most popular romance authors of every genre. Buy some books. Have a ball. I know I will!

And because you know me so well, you know I’ll be blogging about this event daily, letting you in on all the workshop info and little tidbits of publishing knowledge I gather. Plus fan-girling over all my fav authors!

Hope to see you there!

And if you can’t make it to the conference to see me, you can always find me hereTweet Me//Read Me// Visit Me//Picture Me//Pin Me//Friend Me//Google+Me// Triber// Book Me

The life of a writer in the new age of publishing

So a few days ago I shared that one of my books from The Wild Rose Press is being offered through Audible.

3 Wishes went livelivelive to the book LISTENING world on April 17. So far, I have had some pretty good feedback on it from friends, so I wanted to share how the process came about and what I had to do to get the work out there in audiocyberspace.

About a year ago the WRP first notified authors they were going to start offering books on audio to get into this fast moving and rapidly growing market. Right now, audio books are the number one choice of millenials over e-readers and print version books. I know this as fact because I have a millenial for a daughter and she ( and her friends) are always on the go, busy, traveling and working. To devote the time it takes to sit down and actually read a book is time they don’t want to take, so they tend to listen to things like podcasts and books on tape ( or audio as it’s called now) while they are exercising at the gym, traveling for work, even in the car on the way to work. I will admit I hesitated for several months before I ever decided to dip my foot into this market.

First, I had to agree to a seven year extension of the book contract. Then I had to write and audition piece for the potential narrators to read and to, well, audition with. Once that was done and sent back to WRP I waited. And Waited. After about 3 months I received my first audition to listen to. The narrator wasn’t…right. It’s difficult to explain but hearing my words through her interpretation and “voice” wasn’t a good fit, so I rejected her. Guilt, party of one?

Audition 2 was better. The voice was engaging and younger, sounding as if the person was in their 20s-30s, so correct for the POV character. I accepted her and then she narrated the entire book, which I listened to 3 times for approval. There were some words she’d pronounced incorrectly, some phrases I wanted her to change, so that added another 2 months to the process.

Finally, On April 17, the audio book was released into the world, more than 6 months after I initially agreed to it. This is a long process, to be sure. In a perfect world I would narrate my own books because they are written in my voice – truly, my voice – the heavily Brooklyn-d accented, NewYorker voice. But alas, that’s not gonna happen in my lifetime.

If you’re an Audiobook listen-er, here are the links to 3 WISHES.

It’s available via Amazon, Audible, and i-Tunes.

Happy listening.

The new age of publishing. #Audible #audiobooks

So recently, the Wild Rose Press has been allowing their authors to start providing audio books of their current ( and past) works. Since I’m new to this concept of books on disc, it took me a while to get the ball rolling. I  figured I’d try it out and then see how sales went before I committed to having the rest of my books available in this media.

I’m rethinking that decision right now and the next few days I’m going to start uploading my books with WRP to audio.

The demographic that convinced me to do this is one near and dear to me: my daughter and her friends. Right now, the largest group of people purchasing audio books thru i-Tunes and Audible is her age demographic: 25-40. They are busy people and can’t devote hours or days to reading a book. They now listen to them on their iphones, or devices while they travel to and from work, at the gym, even on planes. This, my dear peeps, is the future.

So….welcome tot he future.

If you would like to purchase or sample 3 WISHES for our listening pleasure, here are the links to Amazon/Audible and i-Tunes to do so. My narrator is a lovely girl named Nicole Blessing and she does a great job!

Amazon/Audible

or you can goto my Amazon author page, click on 3 Wishes, then click on FORMATS and EDITIONS, to choose either an ebook copy or the Audible version. easy peasy.

Just in time for #ValentinesDay

A few years ago I was part of a Wild Rose Press series called the CANDY HEARTS. Each little novella told a love story centered around the candy sweetheart candies. This year, WRP has decided to do a series of boxes sets of those Candy Hearts books and I’m in the first one OUT TODAY!!!

The collection I’m in is called BE MY HERO and you can order it here.

A quick little synopsis of each book is below. Get yours today and get a jump start on your Valentine’s Day love!!

 3 Wishes by Peggy Jaeger
Valentine’s Day is Chloe San Valentino’s birthday. Her birthday wish list for the perfect man: he’d fall in love with her in a heartbeat, he’d be someone who cares about people, and he’d have one blue eye and one green eye, just like her. So far, Chloe’s fantasy man hasn’t materialized, but this year for her big 3-0 birthday, she just might get her three wishes.

Say Yes by Katie O’Sullivan
Darby Malone has trouble saying no. Hosting a children’s Valentine party at her recently renovated gallery is the last straw, and the last time she intends to say yes to anything. That is, until she meets Ben.
Ben Phillips’ life has been empty since his wife died, his paintings the only thing giving him solace. Can he convince Darby to give him a chance – and to consider him for more than just a place on her gallery walls? Will she give him a place in her heart as well?

You & Me by Stephanie Kepke
Forty-year-old Alex Spencer has given up on love. Her life revolves around her daughter, sixteen-year-old Josie, even if Josie wants nothing to do with her.
But with Valentine’s Day looming, Alex’s former high school sweetheart, Billy Leibowitz, has been invading her thoughts. Now Candy Hearts are arriving in the mail. Is Billy sending the Candy Hearts? Will this finally be her chance at happily ever after?

One Kiss by Misty Simon
The last place Lorena Weber wants to be on Valentine’s Day is a singles party. She’ll give it an hour —two, tops. But she didn’t plan on seeing the one man who had turned her world on its side New Year’s Eve.
Caleb Manning got coerced into attending this ridiculous party by a co-worker. His plan was to stay for an hour. That was until he recognized Lorena across the room and had to see if that one kiss was only New Year’s Eve magic or something more.

Dare Me by Debra Druzy
For wedding stylist Misty Morningside, mixing business with pleasure is a professional no-no. That is, until she runs into wedding photographer Adam Wright at a Valentine’s Day event. Dare they set aside business for one night of pleasure?

Ask Me by Laura Strickland
Leo Rankin attends the library’s Blind Date With a Book and finds himself competing for the last remaining book. Wild child Gerri Webb is not his usual type. Yet he feels an immediate, sizzling attraction and agrees to share the book and its accompanying bag of candy hearts.
The whole idea of a Blind Date With a Book is to go off genre, so Gerri doesn’t mind when their flirty conversation suggests they unwrap each other rather than the mystery book. When a candy heart advises, “Ask Me,” she asks Leo back to her apartment. She never expects button-down Leo to hit all her buttons. Can one night spent off genre translate to real life?

Chill Out by Jana Richards
Renata Cabral needs to hide for the weekend. Her cousin’s Valentine’s Day wedding means she’ll face embarrassing questions from her large, extended family, questions she’s not ready to answer. So, she invents a work-related excuse and escapes to a friend’s lakeside cottage.
Noah Brownlee is ready to mend his broken relationship with his brother. When a friend offers the use of his lakeside cottage, Noah arrives in the middle of a blizzard with his English Mastiff, only to find the place is already occupied by a woman with big brown eyes and quirky sense of humor.
As the blizzard rages, can the candy hearts predict love?
